Decent pub/hotel with very helpful, welcoming staff. We stayed in one of the stables rooms that was fine for a short stay. It had everything that we needed and was clean and fresh. Ate an evening meal which comprised good pub grub chosen from a typical range of choices. It came piping hot, the portions were exactly right and it was well cooked. Not expensive either. Also had a good pint (Timothy Taylor’s Landlord). Reasonable choice of breakfast options and again the food was piping hot and service was good.

Great place to stay

We stayed for four nights in room 5,at the end of March, as we wanted to see the area of West Yorkshire, but had also planned to do the "Emmerdale experience" which did not disappoint. The room was fantastic, comfortable, warm, with a good shower, and plenty of toiletries, teas and coffees, if you wanted any more, the staff will willingly supply them. The meals in the restaurant are first class, the chefs certainly know how to cook a medium to well done sirloin steak. It really is the staff that make he hotel a great one to both stay in and return to, and you could confidently recommend it to friends and family. We wanted to go into Leeds to explore the city, but didn't fancy driving in, with the one way system trying to find a car park. A big thank you to Abi, who recommended going into the city by train as New Pudsey station is only a few miles away, she supplied train times, organised a taxi to the station, and gave us the numbers of taxi firms to bring us back from the station later in the day. It is service like this that makes a hotel a great place to stay, Can I also mention Emily and Millie, who both served us in the restaurant with a smile and helpful service. My only criticism is at breakfast is the toast. Can I ask that you do away with the sourdough rolls. Sliced white break toasted is the standard for a British breakfast, sough dough when toasted goes very hard. I am sure Craig could sort this out.

Bad, bad, bad

Started off well for work trip, nice staff, room was clean with new shower, clean towel. After midnight a lot of noise started, banging, shouting, furniture being moved above me. Fell asleep eventually and woke to someone hammering on my window around 2am and shouting a man's name trying to get in. Scared the life out of me, I heard them say "over here" and they moved from my window so I tried to go back to sleep. The noises, shouting, swearing and front door banging opening and shut went on all night. Woke again around 5 to a man screaming F.Off and a load of other abuse. Around 7 one of my neighbours came out of his room to demand a refund as he woke to a man in his room that had climbed through the window around 2 am and walked out of his door! Fortunately I'd climbed on a chair and closed my windows as I was on the ground floor and was sleeping alone. The hotel is being used as a doss house by the local housing department who arrived to kick them out after they recieved an email this morning but they had gone out already.Staff have been told to evict them and call police if necessary when they come back. As a lone woman travelling this is quite a frightening experience and having to leave knowing that it's all kicking off due to complaints from us overnight guests is quite intimidating. There were people here that know the people about to be kicked out and I'm listening to them listing their mental health conditions while they stand outside my door as I waited for a good moment to leave. This is not a hotel it is a dumping ground for local housing. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to risk waking up with a cr*ck head at the end of your bed. They have also changed name it is not Avalon now it is Hyde ( maybe Park) on the name plate now. Was in too much of a hurry to leave to take note

Nice welcome and happy to let us check in early. We’d booked a table for 7.30pm already. They told us at check in that there was a booking in the dining area at 4pm but it would be no problem. We went out for a walk and realised that it was a funeral. We realised it probably wouldn’t be over by 7.30. We came down for dinner and sure enough it wasn’t over. Not really sure why they accepted our booking but they did direct us to a table in another area. It was a coffee table! They then directed us to another table in another area which was fine and gave us the menu. When the guy came to take our order he said ‘did anyone mention it was a reduced menu due to the booking?’ Burgers and pizzas only. We decided to leave but realised the time and we’d struggle elsewhere so went for burgers. They were very nice but not what we’d wanted. I only booked table the previous day. They must have known which was disappointing. The room was a bit small but clean and the housekeeper was lovely and very helpful. At breakfast there was only the two of us and we ordered and received our tea, but when breakfast arrived he’d got the order wrong and they came with fried eggs not scrambled. He didn’t write it down. He apologised and took them back. We’d finished the tea by the time we got our breakfast so I asked for a refill. He told us he’d have to charge for that! I declined. The breakfast was lovely and it was the next day too. We also enjoyed the ‘open Mike’ session on our 2nd night. We ate elsewhere that night.

Poor hygiene, grotty place

Reviewed By katiepE4433KC

very run down, on entering the door handle pulled right off the door and very musty smell on arrival to the room, one towel left in bathroom that also smelt damp/used so we couldnt use that bathroom sink had damp all over walls and hairs in the sink that weren't ours the shower mat was also mouldy all underneath and looked like a bacterial breeding ground (great if you want to pick up foot fungas or verucas!) cupboards inside were stained and had crumbs inside, freezer is also unusable as it's covered in solid ice, hairs all down the side of the bed again not ours, sofa was stained and skirting was all dusty honestly it was really grotty overall and could do with a good clean as it looks like it hadn't even been hoovered/cleaned since the last people had been in. Saw staff once while we were there so can't comment on them. Breakfast provided was basic, no jam for toast though. Bed was also very uncomfortable and you could feel the springs in the mattress, very squeaky. Definitely the worst nights sleep i've had in a while as you could also hear anyone above you who moved at any time. also sponge on sink to clean pots was mouldy and no washing up liquid? The 'Garden' is a small space with some old rattan furniture shoved in one corner full of rubbish and a skip , not a pretty sight. Overall the place is falling to bits, doesnt look like it's been cleaned in a good while and smells funky, great if you want to catch bedbugs or a fungal infection and don't want any sleep!

Spent a night here enroute from London to Dales. Good location outside Leeds in Guiesley and minutes walk from village train station. Also close and well served by Leeds Bradford airport. The accommodations were extremely clean, quite and there was a lovely lounge area on ground floor. Staff accommodated us coming in late by hiding key and sending us details.
