10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Genoa: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 27, 2023 Almeta Stockton

Wandering the narrow caruggi alleyways of Genoa is a bit like solving a medieval labyrinth. In the heart of the Italian port city lies Piazza de Ferrari, a main square with a beautiful fountain and a perimeter lined with historic buildings, including the Palace of the Doges the Teatro Carlo Felice, which was destroyed during WWII and subsequently rebuilt. The seaside neighborhood of Boccadasse is vision of pink and yellow buildings that brighten up this lovely fishing village.

Wonderful Stay

The hotel is simply fantastic and beautiful. Better than many 5 star hotels I visited. Pity there isn’t a pool. Hotel is in the centre of Genova. A stone away from the port, city center, museums, station, shops. Practically everything. The building was renovated to the highest standards with real designer finishes (not ikea furniture). The level of detail and attention is incredible. Towels, bathroom products and room gadgets are of finest standards (not even 5 star hotels provide you anymore with eyes masks etc) The common area is a great! Really can’t find something wrong about it.

Best place to stay!

Our family stayed here for the second time last weekend and we confirm that this is an amazing place to stay right in the historical center of Genoa. The hotel is very clean and comfortable, with amazing views and design. You can easily walk anywhere you want to visit. The best part is the hospitality that is welcoming and went above and beyond our expectations. I fell on the street while touring about and twisted my ankle and they helped me in every way. We will look forward to a return visit!

Terrible experience

Reviewed By annalea757

Had an awful experience in this hotel due to the manager's behaviour - the room we booked (a double room with a private ensuite) was not the room we were given (not very nice twin room, shower at the foot of the bed, no private toilet - this room is not even advertised on the travel company's website). I spoke to the manager, who started shoving his phone in my face claiming it was the travel company's fault not his, even though I showed him proof of my exact booking. He was rude, unprofessional and kept insisting that I had to agree with him (I repeatedly told him I did not). I then phoned the travel company to complain, they phoned him to sort the issue out but they got nowhere with him as he kept giving them the wrong reference number apparently. They said he would move a queen bed into the room in the morning but this didn't change the fact that we were in a room which was not very nice with no private toilet (which is what we had paid for) - I was so tired and upset by this point that I let it go. Then, overnight I received 4 separate messages from the hotel manager through the travel company - all claiming that I was lying about the room and that I could go and stay in another hotel if I didn't like his. I was shocked by this. The tone of these messages was not pleasant, even more so because we were staying in his hotel and he was clearly a nasty, dishonest individual - we felt very unsettled by his behaviour. I phoned the travel company again to inform them and to forward the messages to them. They phoned the manager again. I was then told by the travel company that they would try to find us another hotel. While waiting for this to happen, I received an email from the travel company stating that the hotel had just told them that they had overbooked and that they no longer had room for us(!) - it was really absurd. The travel company thankfully quickly relocated us to a lovely hotel at no extra cost. Please avoid this hotel - don't put yourself through what we went through. The manager's behaviour was shocking and from other reviews I have read on the travel company's website, this is not the first time he has behaved like this.

As you arrive at the Hotel Suisse , you enter the world of an Agatha Christie novel. The palazzo is a listed building from the late 19th century and the lift to the third floor is full of charm. One of the most intriguing things is sharing the lift with one of the residents of this charming palazzo, who live above the hotel. Once at reception, the welcoming staff will introduce you to your peaceful room with high ceilings and unusually presented modern additions. Each member of staff has a unique personality, and ťhey all strive to give you an enjoyable experience. We felt very much at home and our 2 night stay went by very quickly. The area surrounding the Hotel has plenty of charming palaces to see, great food and lovely piazzas where one can sit and admire the scenery.

Worst experience ever!

Reviewed By deb0ra81

This was clearly the worst experience I ever had with a hotel! It all started when I checked out and left my luggage there to pick it up a couple of hours later. Only, when I got back to the hotel at the agreed time no one was there, no one opened... I waited for half an hour and then had to leave Genova without my luggage. The person who runs the hotel promised to send my bag but didn’t do so for 10 weeks! I repeatedly offered to bear the cost for it myself but nothing happened. Eventually, they even ignored the emails I sent. Finally, I had to travel to Genova once again to pick up my luggage myself. And all I heard from them was lame excuses. Something like this has never happened to me before. And it’s clearly not the way you should treat your guests!

Very friendly, efficient and clean

Reviewed By whitecottage1

Oscar was very welcoming and enthusiastic. Room and bathroom spotless. View of the sea (over roof of exhibition centre, so not super-picturesque, but I'd figured that was the case before arrival). Big comfy bed. Water pressure in shower was weak but that was only thing less than great. Breakfast spread was not enormous, but good. It was about 1 mile walk to centre of old town but I think we'd have paid more/not had such a nice property if we'd been staying more centrally. Great value.

Lovely

Reviewed By wayne_kinton

As other people have stated this hotel is a little difficult to find (if you get a taxi you get dropped off in the street below so have a lot of steep stairs to climb with your cases!!) but once found the rooms are pleasant, there is no/little noise from the streets below, situated about a 20 minute walk from down town which suited us just fine, breakfast was OK, with my only minor issue being the hostesses complete lack of personality in the morning!! I would recommend and stay here again if in this lovely city.
