10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Cheltenham: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 24, 2023 Lean Nau

Cheltenham was just your average, sleepy town until the discovery of a spring in 1716, after which it became Britain's most popular spa town. (Like Palm Springs without the casinos.) Local Cheltonians have a reputation for being wealthy and respectable, and a walk along the Promenade will give you a first-class view of their wonderful houses, shops and gardens. After taking in the waters at the Pittville Pump Room (great name for a spa), check out the Art Gallery and Museum to learn about the social history of Cheltenham.

Beaumont House

Beaumont House is 14 bedroom guesthouse with off-street parking. It was the home of the Read family in the 1880's. On the 27th October 1884 Anketell Moutray Read was born in Beaumont House, the youngest son of Colonel John Moutray Read. Anketell Read was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in The Gloucestershire Regiment on 21st November 1903. He served in India. He was 30 years old, and a Captain in the 1st Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. This is the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Beaumont House was later owned by the Tilley family, who ran a large muffin bakery in the town. The tiled floor in the reception area was restored in the 1980's, after the recovering discarded tiles from the same period when an adjacent house was being renovated. During the 1980s, Beaumont House was converted into a guest house and it has undergone extensive renovation. It is now owned by Fiona Burke, an Irish businesswoman from Dublin. The hotel operates in a very modern way via a self check-in kiosk, with a duty manager contactable at all times. Smartphone check-in is also available via the TLJ Security app. Breakfast is a complimentary cereal bar and takeaway tea or coffee- super simple and very tasty! We have our own private carpark (there is a parking space for every guest bedroom) and two 22KW charging points suitable for all makes and model of car. Guests pay for charging via the EO Charging app (the QR code is located on the charger).

Absolutely spectacular experience in the 'Out of Africa' room

I was recently on a business trip in Cheltenham and at the last minute booked this Hotel. I honestly had no expectations other than to get a comfortable bed where I could rest for the night. I was lucky enough to meet the owner on arrival and I booked the 'Out of Africa' room. It was absolutely incredible. The attention to detail in the room was second to none and I literally felt that I was on Safari... The bathroom had a Jacuzzi which was much needed especially after a long day. I would recommend this hotel (and particularly this room) to anyone and I will definitely be back there again on my next visit.

Such A Lovely Place To Stay

Had a family party in Cheltenham. As I'm from Plymouth it was quite a journey to do in a day plus the party went on til 12am. I stayed here as it was quite close to the venue. The owners couldn't do enough for you. The room was very clean and tidy and supplied everything you needed for your stay. It wouldn't have mattered if I had forgotten my toothbrush or razor as they had one there. The breakfast was very enjoyable and there was plenty of it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Thank you for looking after me so well.

Plain Rude

Popped into the B&B just to clarify if we had parked in the right place as there was a space next to the B&B parking with no sign. Out of courtesy we wanted to check if we could park there. The person we spoke to was rude and unhelpful and not even sure the sign is enforceable. If they are looking for future trade, they may wish to re think their customer service. We moved our car as we were checking to be sure. Rude and unnecessary

A Bit Noisy

Reviewed By domingofan_12

Stayed at The London Inn for two nights during a Cotswolds Round tour. The hotel is undergoing a renovation, so the outside was having a bit of a repair. Upon entering, the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room looked a bit run down (Like I said, the whole hotel is undergoing a renovation), but things were clean. The only point I'd like to stress is that our room was directly above the bowling alley, and since it was a Friday night, both the music and the bowling alley were very lively. Luckily, the noise subsided around half eleven, so it wasn't a huge issue, but families with small children might have an issue with the noise. At breakfast the following morning, we were never instructed that we were supposed to sit at the table number which corresponded to our room number, and instead of just bringing us another place setting at the table where we were already sat, we were shifted around to the proper table after we had already begun to eat. It was a bit embarrassing and awkward for us, if I'm honest.

Stopped for the night on my way to Wales

Reviewed By 90colleenw

I booked this guest house because I wanted an economical room for the evening to break my journey up on my way from Essex to Wales. It was £45 for the night & I had a lovely warm log cabin with a bathroom and breakfast included. The host called me ahead of check in to confirm when I would be arriving & when I arrived she kindly met me & showed me to my cabin, which was a Moroccan themed room. It felt warm and very cosy and it was clean and tidy . As it was late in the evening I pretty much crashed in to the very comfy bed & said I’d like breakfast at 8.15am. Because it is right in Cheltenham there is not any on site parking, although there are side streets where you can safely leave your car. I parked in the Hardwick college campus across the way but be sure to check the parking conditions so you don’t get a ticket. There was a lot of road noise during the night which I am not used to as I don’t live in a busy town/city, however this wasn’t an issue as I was just tired! In the morning I was the only person for breakfast at my time and had poached eggs on toast, which set me up for the day and had a nice chat with the host before I left. When booking it does state that it is a shared bathroom although you can specify type of room. I paid a little bit more and booked the double room and had my own bathroom in the cabin, which was lodge number 1. For £45 on a Sunday evening to have as a rest stop I can only highly recommend Alice guest house. It seems the other reviews are unfair as I did not find any fault at all & I had a very comfortable night.

Disgruntled

Went to the Midland hotel to stay for work for the week and lasted all of 30 minutes, the place needs knocking down and rebuilding, you should be paid to stay there. No reception, the rooms where smelly and unkept the cups were still stained and no kettle. The shared bathrooms had blood in one sink and frankly you would be cleaner staying out the shower and too top it all off the landlady was rude and gave me nits. Wouldn’t stay if I was paid to..

A truly amazing guest house with every detail thought out

We stayed for 7 wonderful days exploring the Cotswolds using Guiting Guest House as our base. We arrived tired and jet lagged from Australia. Graham and Lou were wonderful settling us in. They have thought of every little detail to make your stay comfortable and relaxed: super comfortable beds, beautifully appointed rooms, fridge in room, snacks every day, a lovely assortment of teas and coffee, the most beautiful breakfast with delicious choices using the finest ingredients in a beautiful breakfast room full of flowers and lovely books of the local area. I still miss Lou’s breakfasts. Graham is a wealth of knowledge on the local area with great suggestions for dinner. There are just too many lovely inclusions to list but each evening as we headed back to Guiting I relaxed knowing what a comfortable gem we were going back to.

Exceptional place to stay for the races

Reviewed By dellaneilson

We stayed in the apartments just down the road from the hotel. We had exceptional service. We were there for the races and we managed to drop off our luggage early, park our car for a couple of days and the owner even gave us a lift to the race course itself as it was raining. Excellent location for the races as you can actually walk in about 20-30 mins (we did the next day as the sun was shining) and also an easy walk to a selection of restaurants and pubs. The apartment itself was very clean and had everything you needed, including a wonderful surprise in the morning when we opened the fridge to find a whole host of breakfast goodies; bacon, eggs, yogurt, muesli, fruit, fresh orange juice, milk …. Etc! Would highly recommend these apartments.
