Less Than Average

We had previously stayed here some years ago and had a lovely time so we were excited about returning. What a shock when we arrived! The once privately owned hotel has now been taken over by a hotel chain and it is sadly very obvious. There is an overall lack of enthusiasm by the staff, absolutely zero customer service and they all look so miserable. On arrival we were 15 minutes early ( check -in is at 3pm) and whilst we didn’t expect to go to our room before then we thought there may be a possibility….no such luck! The lady on reception, once she acknowledged our presence, told us quite bluntly to sit in the bar as housekeeping hadn’t finished our room. Suddenly at bang on 3pm it was ready!! On the hotel website it states food is served daily from 07:30 and all menus in house state the same but breakfast wasn’t served until 8am and despite us asking one day if we could eat at 07:30 ( we were out on an early trip ) the hotel refused. There was absolutely no flexibility in staff approach to making our stay a good experience. We booked a Superior Double room ( Rm 11 ) and even though it was clean and comfortable I doubt very much it was superior room, it was tiny and very cramped. The food is mediocre at best and very over priced…. One item on the breakfast menu stated …. “Eggs on Toast: Eggs of your choice on thick cut farmhouse loaf” Poached eggs fine, but bread was a thin slice from supermarket cut loaf! We did mention our concerns at the time as I believe in giving the staff a chance to turn the experience around. I think the person we spoke to was quite embarrassed and said he’d pass on our concerns. Let’s hope it’s taken note of and changes are made for future guests. Not sure we’ll return in the future!

Wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Bowness Guest House. Located in a lovely quiet street literally 3 mins walk from Bowness. Very peaceful location. From our room (4) we had views of the forests behind the lake. The room was spotless and very stylishly decorated. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom was modern and well equipped. Netflix was included on the T.V. free of charge, You don't get that at some of the big hotels! Michelle was super friendly and very helpful. Knew lots about the local area and recommended plenty of things to do and places to go. We didn't meet Bernard, but I'm sure he is as nice as Michelle. I would 100% recommend Bowness Guest House.

My wife and I stayed here on a three day trip to the lakes. A lovely B and B with very friendly staff / owners. The location is perfect, ideal for me as the only driver as it meant I didn’t have to drive to the lake or Bowness town centre. Bowness itself is lovely too. We will be staying here again on our next trip to the lakes, couldn’t fault it at all, including a very tasty and very fresh cooked breakfast.

Beautiful visit

Reviewed By jesycaw2022

This was one of the most amazing hotels I’ve stayed in. Very accommodating, felt EXACTLY like a home away from home. We where kept up to date with how to enter our room and what to do on departure as it’s our first time using self check-in machines. Nick was very helpful, received a list of local places to visit and eat out, we went to two of the recommendations and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Will definitely return! Thank you!!

I agree the lads who serve breakfast have exceptional customer service and breakfast to a high standard. Breakfast very good and is the best part of this hotel. We stayed on the front of the hotel on the second floor, room really does need updating, yes clean, but money needs to spend now to upgrade to make this hotel high class. We did have a lovely little break and thankyou to the staff who were attentive during our stay

Hidden gem

Reviewed By ClaireJupp

Having stayed in Bo’ness on Windermere a few times before, we have to say this was our best find, nestled away up a hill down a short lane but very close to the centre of Bo’ness and the Lake, Langdale View is run by a lovely couple who are the perfect hosts, where cleanliness, attention to detail, personalisation and professionalism are a high priority to them, breakfasts are delicious, rooms are spacious - well equipped with everything you need, comfy beds and lovely linen, bathrooms are lovely with walk in shower. Extensive hospitality tray, use of a fridge outside your rooms on the landing are a great idea and very much appreciated. Parking with a bay per room means you can park and walk as so close . Views are lovely if you’ve the right room where you can see the Lake and mountains with lovely sunsets. Hope you have a great season this year now the pandemics dying down. We’ll definitely join you again in the future. Cheers Ann-Marie & Paul x

Don't stay in the double room with private bathroom

Reviewed By susanhC2714DD

We should have gone home but had a early morning meeting to go to. Paid 220pounds for the smallest dirtiest room, there was layer of dust on the door frame, wardrobe and the tv was a fire risk with the amount of dust. I have never stayed anywhere this dirty. The private bathroom is no where near your room the shower trap had not been clean in years. The small toilet room the door was disgusting glad we did not have to spend long in the room it was small the window cannot be opened. Only saw the owner once not great customer service, but my feeling for this place is cram as many rooms as possible, every place l have stayed in before as a lounge or dining area not here. Sleep well if you are in room 2 you can hear everything in room 3 no soundproofing in the stud wall poor. So wished it was not last minute and my lovely normal guest house was available as he really gets to know his guests.
