Cute boutique hotel in the heart of historic San Jose del Cabo

My husband and I both loved this place and would stay here again. Pros The grounds are beautiful with artwork, hammocks and peaceful spots to relax. The Luxury room is spacious with beautiful folk art, a small desk, sitting area and best of all, a private patio with the option to have a table & chairs or hang a hammock. They will let guest borrow beach chairs and umbrellas for the beach. English speaking staff Other guests were quiet Cons I don’t think this is a negative but I do recommend bringing ear plugs in case your room backs to the main road and also because somewhere in town there is a rooster who starts announcing that’s morning very early. There is access to a beach club but when we were there it needed to be booked ahead of time and on the same day because it fills up fast. We didn’t go because we had plans in the morning when we would’ve needed to arrive. The margarita I had at the hotel bar was twice as much as the ones I had in town.

Casa Kootenay Waterfront Bed and Breakfast

Very relaxing place with private beach access

Reviewed By MAVE-ATX

We were referred to Casa Kootenay by local La Paz friends and they were absolutely right - this is a fabulous B&B. Leeanne is a great host - warm, friendly and great local guide who is professional and never imposes herself. The B&B has so much to offer - great location, privacy, secure, direct beach access, comfortable rooms (and bed!) and delicious breakfasts! Her staff are lovely and we always felt safe - very much a home from home. We loved wandering the beach outside before sunsets and saw these little crazy jawfish in the beach (see attachment). And speaking of sunsets - the rooftop veranda is the pièce de résistance of the place - for the most peaceful sunrise coffees and sunset cocktails! If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay with excellent access to downtown La Paz and the Malacon plus delightful host and delicious food - we highly recommend Casa Kootenay!

Another good place to stay

Reviewed By AG3193

Traveling Baja without reservations is normally quite easy, but during Race Season, Samantha Santa and Spring Break, most hotels near the beach get booked far in advance. Luckily, even though San Ignacio is a great whale watching destination, it is not close to a beach and not in the path of most off road travelers. As such I figured I’d better get a reservation during Spring Break and it’s a good thing. All hotels at my normal break point traveling south in Baja were booked solid. La Huerta had a few rooms left and I grabbed the 2 needed quickly. The hotel is located a short distance from the main square of San Ignacio. That makes for an easy walk if dining at the hotel is not preferable. Prices are slightly higher than most of the larger hotels on Highway 1 hat I usually stay at. Also there is a 200 peso “deposit” that is refundable if the room is not damaged. This might be indicative of some of the clientele but since it is a pet friendly location, that might be part of it as well. Still, upon checking out, the room is inspected before you get your deposit back. The rooms are somewhat dated but the floors and especially the bed were clean. The room design is interesting with a rather small bathroom but quite functional. Importantly there was a great hot water supply that came on fast. The restaurant was convenient and the bartender very efficient and pleasant. Food was good and prices not very expensive. Telephone 615-154-0116 hotel 615-154-0199 restaurant

Unexpected stay

We stayed at this hotel as a result of the Sunwing expisode in April. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and very fresh. There is a rooftop restaurant on site with a beautiful view and amazing food, hat's off to the chef. Definitely worth stopping at if you are travelling by. A couple of cons: One there is no in room fridge and only one small bottle of water in the room, this was nice but we always use bottled water even to brush our teeth but were provided with more when asked. Two it is on a very busy highway Three beds are a little small but comfortable Thank you for being very helpful and understanding in a stressful situation.

Loud nights on the Malacon….

Reviewed By NancyKH

I would not recommend this hotel - especially if you are staying on a weekend night - the Malecon is very busy, and local musicians camp outside the windows with their amps turned all the way up. The hotel rooms have a lot of steps- and no railings - so very poorly designed and dangerous. Our room fronted the Malecon - so we moved for the last night, only to find that the other rooms have windows that are open to the patio where the restaurant is located and open until Midnight.?, and also loud. However - if you like to party and stay up late this might be the perfect place for you! The 3 oceanfront rooms do have nice sunset views. Try the Club Baja a few blocks away…

Rip-Off

Reviewed By erikaanne

Super disappointing. We often stay at the sister hotel in San Quintin and enjoy it. We had car trouble in Cataviña, so decided to stay. We paid about $75 for a room that was worth about $25. The room was very shabby. No coffee maker, no Wifi unless you want to pay, minimal everything, and super loud. I am not sure if the rooms are better in the main bldg, but they couldn’t be worse. We ate at the restaurant and it was also overpriced. Since we didn’t have a coffee maker in the room, we asked for coffee in the lobby and were told it was 75 pesos for the 2 cups of weak, cheap coffee. The water was turned off in our room with no apology. More of just a shrug. So my husband didn’t even get a shower. This all could have been made less of a deal if the front desk person was even remotely friendly. But she couldn’t be bothered to even give a smile. We will never be back. We’d rather have camped out in the desert.
