10 Bars & Clubs in Cheltenham That You Shouldn't Miss

March 15, 2022 Phylicia Berquist

Cheltenham was just your average, sleepy town until the discovery of a spring in 1716, after which it became Britain's most popular spa town. (Like Palm Springs without the casinos.) Local Cheltonians have a reputation for being wealthy and respectable, and a walk along the Promenade will give you a first-class view of their wonderful houses, shops and gardens. After taking in the waters at the Pittville Pump Room (great name for a spa), check out the Art Gallery and Museum to learn about the social history of Cheltenham.

The Frog and Fiddle

The Frog is one of the most atmospheric venues in Cheltenham. With live music, good beer and all major sporting events shown on our 12 screens.

Have been visiting Frog fairly regularly for around three years now, and it's definitely one of the best spots for sport and music in Cheltenham. Good Points - Always a good atmosphere, indoors and out, generous smoking area - Student prices for drinks very reasonable - Lots of TVs for any sports - Have had Christmas parties here before and it's a great venue - Pool tables - Friendly staff and service - You are welcome to bring your own food/takeaway inside which is actually a great option, it's good that they are open and friendly about this Negative - Toilets are pretty dirty - Some sofas/seating is falling apart Overall a great pub in Cheltenham, would strongly recommend over most other pubs. Generally a good atmosphere and great for sport and music. Can't think of masses of things to complain about here.

Sandford Park Alehouse

Reviewed By VamosChicos - Cheltenham, United Kingdom

Sandford Park Alehouse (or “SPA” for short) is tucked away along the London Road, coming out of town. A buzzing real ale house with a large garden with huge awning/marquee over it - which is perfect for get-togethers in our currently permitted groups of 6 outside.. It’s a vibrant, buzzing place! They do have a chef but, as a lovely gesture, are currently doing pop up kitchens with local eateries who are unable to reopen yet because they don’t have seating out in the open. Last night, for example, was Bar Padron tapas. Food & ambiance fantastic and, excuse the French girl, but they even have Provençal rosé. Because it’s for the hipsters, the default is that they ask you to scan a QR code and view the menu for food & drinks online & order online. However, there is a Plan B: speak nicely to the staff and they will take your order the old fashioned way, good ole pen & paper! Booking essential, it’s extremely popular! Enjoy!

We popped in for a drink while staying in Cheltenham, not the easiest thing to do in a pandemic, but we were made very very welcome. The Cider was fantastic, the barman a great guy and the locals a good laugh. Thank you for a really great afternoon. Will see you next time.

The Railway Cheltenham

Trying to find somewhere to park gave my wife the chance to investigate the unassuming pub from the outside. She discovered a lovely warm, cosy interior with many diners and very friendly staff who were more than happy to help. Through no fault of theirs but tiny 1 way streets and bollards meant it took around 20 minutes to be able to park and walk through a cutting from Waitrose to return to the pub. The delay and exclusion was definitely worthwhile. We were welcomed by 3 wonderful staff, the manager, his new barmaid and a lovely waitress. They were all fantastic and treated us like new friends chatting about our parking adventures before advising us about the beers and menu before guiding us to our beautifully reserved table. The waitress gave us perfect time to choose and further guidance and when it came the food was stunning. The chefs from Bankok provide food equal if not better than any Thai Restaurant we have eaten in at very good prices. A truly wonderful night and a fantastic find. Thank you

Jolly Brewmaster

This is the best PUB in Cheltenham. I have worked in this industry for over 30 years and this is what a pub should be like. Good beer. Friendly customers. Relaxed atmosphere. If the staff are rude to you then you probably deserve it. Do not expect food, sofas, kids play areas or for people to put up with rude behaviour. If what you want is a good pint of beer or cider in a proper old-fashioned PUB then this is the place for you. Fantastic garden, knowledgable staff.
