Okamura

This is one of the highest rated Soba (Japanese noodle) Restaurants in Hayama/Zushi district. I think they are absolutely fine but it's not worth visiting them just for trying their soba noodle. I have tried both hot and cold noodles and tempura. Noodle is bit starchy and probably it works slightly better with cold noodle. They use different "dash" soup for different style of dishes. SInce there are so many better soba restaurants in Tokyo, so, I suggest people should try soba in Tokyo, not in Hayama. If needed to eat soba in Hayama, then, there are some other alternatives such as Rioh (Zushi station). I think Rioh is more sophisticated then Okamura. A similar style to Okamura but a cheaper option is called Wakana (10 minutes away by car from Okamura).

Hayama Hikage-chaya

Reviewed By Stayoshi - Malaysia

My Japanese friend brought me to his restaurant, during our recent trip to Kamakura.
This is a very quaint, traditional Japanese restaurant. If you are lucky, you might get to be seated beside the windows, overlooking the small but beautiful garden.
The food there is of very good quality and service is top notch. As expected, the food was obviously very well presented too. If you want to experience the authentic Japanese dining experience, you should definitely give this a try.
I am not sure why this restaurant is not more well-known among the foreigners though (maybe due to its location?), as we were the only foreigners in that restaurant.
Offsite parking is available at the side of the restaurant.

It is located in a nice place but the quality of the food and service is very poor. Chef Ochiai cooks very well at his restaurant but I guess he never come and check out the quality of service and the food. I think it's a shame. If you have tried a real Italian food in Italy or any of good Italian restaurant in Tokyo, then, you will regret it very much if you visit this restaurant.

Yuki Shokudo

This is a great, unpretentious Japanese 'diner' serving hearty Japanese set meals with huge portions. You know the minute you walk up to it, that this is a place with history and soul. The sashimi lunch set comes with enough rice for two, the most sashimi I've ever been served, soup, pickles, a boiled egg, and natto! You won't go hungry. Unless you're looking for superficial trendy gimmicks, you won't be disappointed.

Fukuman

Reviewed By Andy M - Canberra, Australia

We'd just finished a hike at Nango Park on a Sunday at lunch time and needed a feed. Fukuman was close by. We arrived to find a queue. We added our names to the waiting list, and we're given an English menu to peruse while we waited. Our orders were taken just before we were invited in to sit down.
One of set meals came with soup, pickle, rice and two main dishes. It was hard to go past, particularly with delicious jumbo Gyoza, fried chicken, mapo dofu and "ants up trees" to choose from. A couple of beers rounded us off nicely.
A family of five got out of there for ¥7000. There was plenty of parking. Strong recommend for an informal Japanese-style Chinese lunch.

Caraway

Reviewed By Pan-heera

Prior to our visit to Kamakura, one of our friends had suggested visiting a traditional style curry house for authentic Japanese Curry - apparently one of the specialties of Kamakura. We asked the very friendly and helpful tourism office for a curry house recommendation and they suggested Caraway. If you are vegetarian, do not bother, since the curry with egg options seem to come with chicken. However, if you are interested in trying authentic Japanese curry, try out Caraway.
The tourism office gave us great directions for finding the restaurant since we cannot read Japanese and as others have mentioned, there is not an English sign. I highly recommend visiting the tourism office in general - everyone there spoke great English and can give tips on a pleasant stay in Kamakura. The restaurant is located off the main shopping street in Kamakura. If you get lost, ask people and they will point you in the right direction.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 5:30 pm - we each ordered small portions of the quail egg and chicken curry dishes. The tourism office told us to ensure we ordered the small portions, since the portion sizes are enormous. The small portion was extremely generous and came with a side salad and a huge portion of rice. Each dish is around $7-8 USD, which is a great deal considering the amount of food. Service was friendly - perhaps it helps coming a bit earlier given its popularity. We seemed to beat the rush, because I saw locals being turned away once the restaurant got crowded.

The restaurant is always crowded. There is always a line waiting in front of restaurant. We are very lucky that we came a little late in the afternoon...on Japan Golden Week! And got table within 15 minutes. There are parking just opposite the restaurant. Food is very good. The restaurant serves whatever fresh from the market everyday. Food is good and delicious.

It is a large Italian restaurant with ocean and Fuji views, though the parking lot blocks part of the view. It is family friendly, and great to visit after hanging out on the beach.
Pizza is made in a wood stove and are very good (simple but delicious). The desserts are also very good and rich. Lunch sets are a decent price, and you can still get lunch sets until 4:30.
