Edelweiss

Little Germany with a great German restaurant and live music on the weekends. We hired a taxi at about $12 an hour to drive us to Edelweiss . The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. The live music is on holidays, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Home crafted beer and excellent German food at a reasonable price make this an unforgettable experience. Sheltered parking is free. Telephone 3102533144 or 8831212 for Reservations.

Excellent food. The hamburgers were delicious and you can choose between bread and "arepa". The environment is good, music is fine but sometimes is mixed with the street noise. Good attention

Typical Colombian cuisine in a lovely, old colonial house. The property was really breathtaking. empanadas and arepas were delicious... the mint lemonade was soo good! I definitely recommend this place after a long day visiting the Salt Cathedral.

We stopped in after visiting the Salt Cathedral. We ordered the Mixed Plate #2 with pork and capybara and two Mixed Plate #1 with beef.
Both sets came with hefty portions of meat, small roasted potato, arepa and fried plantain. Side salsa included a guacamole style salsa and a spicy tomato salsa.
The meats were tasty if tough. Although the smoking flavor stood out.
Portion sizes were large. Everybody ended up taking half of their meat portions home. The fried plantains were good.
Two coco de limonadas were our drinks.
Service was prompt and efficient. Photo of capybara.

My friend took my this restaurant on our day tour to Zipquira. He says he goes there often on his way to Cogua. The food was good, especially my fresh made lemonade. The service staff was very friendly. They have everything from large steaks(parilla) to vegetarian meals. If I remember correctly it was between $12-$18USD for the two of us and he ordered a large steak.

Lechoneria Alma Llanera

Reviewed By S0ulshine - Dallas, Texas

We were heading back from the Salt Cathedral on Christmas day when our guide suggested we stop at Alma Llanera for a traditional Columbian lunch. I am so glad we did. At the entrance of this restaurant stands an open fire with racks of meat, pork and fish cooking on skewers. There is no written menu here but the waiter will tell you the offerings – beef, pork, capybara (at 150 lb, this is the world’s largest rodent) and fish – all on the grill – or one of the traditional Columbian soups found in the mountainous region. Our server also offered tastings of beef and pork so that we could sample the menu before making our selection (capybara is only made to order). We each ordered something different – pork for my son, beef for our guide, fish for me and capybara for my courageous husband. Each dish came with a selection of sides including plantains, arepas, potato, salad and rice – much too much for any single person to consume. The food was all authentic, flavorful and, simply, delicious. For the four of us with 5 beers and waters, the bill came to roughly $20 USD. If you are up in the Mountains, definitely try out some of this traditional grilled meats and fish.

We had lunch there after visiting the Cathedral. It was a suggestion of the taxi driver.
The food was good, but nothing special. The only things really good were the entrance (champignon with cheese) and the cold beer. The other plates were just ok (the ceviche comes with a sweet sauce, really weird!)

My buddy and I were in Zipaquira and read the reviews for the AndreaBo Cafe. We didn't find Colombian food or even sandwiches. Instead, Andrea, the owner, herself directed us to a restaurant nearby. However, because she was so helpful, we ended up buying delicious treats from this bakery. It's only a bakery, but the owner is truly kind and helpful. Worth the visit.

Most people traveling in Zipaquira will be there for a tour of the salt mine/cathedral. Once you're done, stop for lunch at the Komilona Restaurant for fantastic slow food. Upon the advice of my travel guide, Henry, we enjoyed a pitcher of malted Coke and beer, a platter of fried plantains with melted cheese and various hot sauces, and then the main course: two filets of trout in a sizzling skillet of butter sauce. (Yes, each serving was two filets.) Sooo good. Sooo filling!
