Mala Garden Restaurant

Mala Garden Hotel’s restaurant in Siófok offers an exotic atmosphere matching the hotel’s design, where guests can marvel at the magnificent view overlooking Lake Balaton all year round. The international cuisine and the menu is accordingly a composition of Far Eastern, Malay and Thai dishes and flavours, but devoted followers of healthy diets will not be left disappointed either with the wide variety of salads and fish dishes that await them. For those after Hungarian flavours, we have revisited a number of our cuisine’s traditional recipes and are proud to present our interpretations in the menu. Mala Garden Restaurant’s Terrace has a magnificent view of Siófok’s Golden Shore; during the summer, you may dine or drink your favourite cocktail in a genuine beach atmosphere. We have a rich selection of Hungarian wines, and to let as many try them as possible, the wine specialties of the Balaton, Villány and Tokaj regions are available by the glass. Every Friday night in June, July and August, live music is played to add to the beach atmosphere.

Located in small boutique hotel next to the lake, wide selection of dishes - ranging from meat, pasta, to hungarian and asian. Had a "hungarian" dish of beef tenderloin, potato wedges - very tasty, with fresh garlic and leek. Staff ok, a bit more expensive than expected.

We stopped with a tour group and the meal was fine...nothing really to "write home about" but adequate. I suppose it didn't help that we were there during a very hot spell and the inside of the restaurant was very warm and not conducive to eating.

We choose the beach because of the restaurant as I had good memories from the old times (visited few years ago). The hospitality was good practically the same just the waiters don't run and scream anymore which was something unique before. The Terrace was very hot as there were no fans or anything else. We ordered mainly seafood and expected something much better than we actually got for the price they charged. Whoever visited a good Italian restaurant before will realize the quality of the food they serve is not as good as it is in the restaurants from the same price range. We paid a lot and left the place disappointed. Maybe their pizza is great but definitely don't go there for the seafood.

The quality of the food is going down in this restaurant. Some products probably from hard discount markets, like freeway cola if you ask coke...and the quality of the meat is not always correct. The fish soup is average but the quantity is not enough, only if you take 4 slices of white bread with. Positive side is the huge Terrace with wooden furniture, and the service is fine. There is a free wifi and also draft Staropramen. Small playing field for children and friendly staff. In comparison with 2010-11 the quality food changed including smaller portions.

Being close to our hotel we went to Calvados to enjoy a pleasant Hungarian dinner. Ordered a glass of Riesling, fish, and boar. Everything tasted excellent, portions were big, and services was fast and polite. Prices are very modest, and we left the place happily stuffed. This place is big enough for larger families as well, so anyone travelling with their kids will find this place very convenient.

Nice and spacey location, easy to find. Quite big menu card , but food is freshly cooked, tasty and big portions, like usual in a "csárda". Staff is friendly and attentive. We had a nice family birthday celebration and were absolutely satisfied.

Restaurant Hausmann

Reviewed By Robicsek - Budapest

Zamárdi is one of the small towns around Lake Balaton, and there are very few restaurants open off season. Hausmann’s opens in March and closes in November, so we had lunch there on a chilly October day. The decor is simple and clean, although we were somewhat put off by a number of stray cats around the house. The menu (in Hungarian and English) offers good Hungarian dishes, we opted for the Hungarian bean soup „Jókai” style and a “Fisherman’s sheat-fish (wels) soup” to start with. The “cups” we ordered were already of generous size, the “plates” would have been sufficient for two. The Fisherman’s soup was quite nice, the bean soup all right. I had the Breaded sheat-fish slices with sauce „Tartare”, it was all right, but nothing special. My wife had the “Poppy-seed paste” (a kind of gnocchi with poppy seeds and sugar), they were far too dry, nothing even remotely as nice as those she herself prepares at home. Service was good and fast (there were only us in the restaurant), the bill came to a very modest 6,000 Ft (less than US$ 30) for two, with a glass of wine.

Incredible experience: the food was great, so as the wines. That was a pity that we did not taste all the 6 of them.. Next time :) Anyways, the strudels were our favorites. There is a museum located inside where you can have a little piece from the products. It is called the First Hungarian Food Museum where there are Hungarian sauages, salamis, marmalade, various oils etc. I only had good expereice, I can only recommend this place!
