Can’t get the basics right - hard to get good staff

Reviewed By jenny374

Very Faulty Towersesq. Bar staff couldn’t provide table water as no water bottles available but didn’t offer to fill our glasses from tap. Couldn’t have milk with cup of tea as they ‘don’t do milk’ - we walked across the road and bought some - they could have done that. Staff were pseudo-pretentious - food was nice but basically just burgers etc. it was a real giggle watching them in action!!

Quaint Accommodation in Dixons Creek

Attending a wedding at Balgownie Estate, accommodation at the Estate fully booked, we had to seek an alternative. My fiancé found Leafield Cottages, just 6kms down the road. And what a hidden gem!. If you see the Dixons Creek Cafe, hang a left just past and on the left is Leafield Cottages. A number of small individual cottages to book, in a very scenic bush setting. We had Sage Cottage, and it certainly lived up to its name. Shades of green on the exterior and interior, the cottage is self contained with kitchen, lounge/bedroom and en-suite. Breakfast is included, which comprise of bread, eggs, pastries, fruit and condiments. For those of you with a larger car, the driveway into and to the cottages is a little narrow, but not too hard to navigate. Birdsong to wake you in the morning, gorgeous surrounds, and if you are feeling a little cold, a wood fired heater to make your stay just a little more intimate. Whether you are looking for somewhere to stay for an event in the area, or you are looking for somewhere out of the way with heaps of charm for a weekend, have a look at Leafield Cottages!!

Sneaky added extras

Reviewed By kmcferran

Ella’s cottage was beautifully set up and had everything we needed - as one would expect for $385 for one night. We lit candles on arrival, as they were sitting next to the spa bath in the corner. At checkout, noticed that there was an item on the mini-bar list saying that candles were $35 each, so had accidentally spent $75 (including an additional fee for being charged). We suggested to the host that these could be better positioned so future guests wouldn’t make the same mistake - to no avail! Left a bad taste.

This Emerald escape is a true gem

After a great day exploring the Yarra Valley we stayed one night at this beautiful property, Emerald Ridge, in the Guest Room. As soon as you turn up the driveway you know you're in for a treat. The hosts greeted us on arrival and showed us all we needed to know about the room. You're then left in peace to really enjoy the modern, well designed and spacious accommodation which is also right in the heart of nature. The room featured a king size bed, a lounge area with two comfortable chairs, a small table for two, a large TV (which can rotate to any direction in the room), books, magazines, chess board, a luxurious bathroom with two shower heads, a large spa bath, and a small kitchenette with toaster and microwave. There is air conditioning and a gas fireplace depending on your needs. There was a lovely bottle of sparkling wine and a block of chocolate in the room, as well as everything you needed for breakfast - bacon, toast, an assortment of cereal, fresh fruit and peach cups, yoghurts, orange juice, milk, spaghetti and baked beans and an assortment of spreads. We had visited wineries and cheese producers, went fruit picking, went to Emerald Lake Park and to Healesville Santuary, but both my husband and I agree that our favourite part of the trip was enjoying the sparkling wine and cheese and crackers on the day we arrived, sitting on our own private balcony, looking over the farm with the rain falling through the trees at the end of the balcony. If you're looking for a little piece of heaven - this is it.

Hosts very friendly and even took me down and back to the shops! Facilities very clean. Close to Beechworth bakery and a short trip to the sanctuary. You will love the serenity of this place. There are a few things missing from this place: decent (or any) wifi, effective plumbing, and thick walls. But for such a low price, it's a very easy and convenient place to stay if you're going to Warburton for the weekend to do something else. The bed is comfy, the rooms are clean, and there's a small fridge for drinks. Nothing crazy, but I enjoyed the simplicity of being close to town and being able to sleep well.

The reviews on this property aren’t anywhere near correct or accurate There are photos of a fire place and floor boards and that room is actually where the owners live which is false advertising I was under the impression from the photos that we would have a living room with floor boards and a fire place and a bedroom like we had but we only had the bedroom There is a comment about the breakfast being exceptional Not sure how pieces of bread in a zip lock bag is exceptional There is wifi but doesn’t work at all , there is no reception at all The bed is so uncomfortable The location is great Parking great The gardens are gorgeous It is very expensive for a bedroom with bathroom I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend this place to anyone

Perfect Couples Getaway

Reviewed By 331lizk

We enjoyed a three night stay in this gorgeous B & B. The house is a beautifully maintained 100+yr old guesthouse surrounded by gorgeous gardens that invite colourful birds & the sound of the stunning water feature ensures a relaxing vibe. Three quaint, but beautifully decorated guest rooms all overlook the spectacular gardens. Each unit has their own outdoor table area on the terrace to have breakfast in the morning or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening & take in the ambience. Mark & Christine are the perfect hosts. Friendly & easy to talk to, they greeted us on arrival & took us through our accommodation. Christine was a wealth of knowledge about the area, wineries, restaurants & places to visit. Although they live at the back of the property, we did not see them again & had total privacy. They have thought of everything. From candles to the comfy & cozy bed it is a perfect space for couples. The breakfast basket was generous & more than enough for our stay. The two donkeys, two dogs & cats were just as friendly as their owners & were a delight. The only thing it lacked was a wardrobe or chest of drawers for your clothes. Other than three wall hooks, there was nowhere to hang your clothes, but if living out of a suitcase doesn’t bother you, then this place is pretty much perfection.
