The Angel Inn

The Angel inn is one of the oldest inns in England. We have seven en-suite bedrooms all with Wi-Fi, music docking stations and tea and coffee facilities. The pub is family run and a home from home feel. The food is homemade English with a daily specials board and the chefs will cater with any special request or dietary requirements. The pub has a large car park and beer garden with a patio area where you can enjoy your food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. The Angel is great for business users for accommodation as its close to the A1M. With Worksop, Doncaster, Sheffield, and Rotherham all under 30mins drive away. The Angel is a traditional pub with real ales (B.R.A.G recognised)and fine wines all reasonably priced. We have a family area with highchairs, and cater for parties of all sizes

Brilliant food

This place has gone downhill with the new management. Ordered tikka masalas and they were very small (compared to what you normally get here) and they weren’t tikka masalas at all. The sauce was pretty much just onions and passata and tasted nothing like it should have. When we commented on this to the staff it was shrugged off and said that all recipes are different! The rest of the food was pretty good though. Ordered desserts and my ice cream came half melted and by the time i got a spoon, which we had to ask for, it was pretty much just cream.

I had a lovely meal here with my partner and her Mum last Friday. We went thinking that the menu might be a bit basic (normal pub food) but were pleasantly surprised by the range of dishes on offer. I would definitely go there again.
The only minor negative is that you have to go to the bar to order food (as is the same with others in this chain). Luckily I had come prepared with a notebook and pen!

The White Swan Inn

This historic village inn has been tastefully decorated and updated to create a beautiful country pub with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Warm and cosy with a central real log fire it is the place to go for business lunches, meeting up with friends or if you are alone a great place for making new friends. A lovely rear beer garden is a real sun trap. There is a decking area with benches and a grassed area which is great for the kids, And as it is fully enclosed you can easily keep an eye on them. To the front of the Inn you have the option of benches outside the entrance or relax on the village green where there are also benches. Either way it's a great spot to have a meal or a drink and watch the world go by. We also have a free function room available Monday-Saturday in which we can cater to suit your requirements if needed

Being our first date night since becoming parents; Me and the Mrs we were looking forward to getting out of the house and having a meal cooked for us. We had Soup for starters and the main courses (Fish & Chips and Halloumi Burger) were ok and came in good size portions. The main aspect of the visit that was slightly disappointing was that this pub is badged up as a Real ale pub with signage outside insinuating such but the choice of ales on the night of our visit was fairly standard.
The service was decent and at least the regulars didn't stare at us as though we had two heads as experienced elsewhere in other establishments in Blyth.

After having an absolutely delicious meal here last night I felt I had to write this out of sheer appreciation.
The atmosphere was lovely with lovely little touches like roses, candles, table decorations and a complimentary glass of prosecco each on arrival.
The service was friendly and attentive.
The meal was made up of thread courses with good choices. I had the asparagus and lobster risotto, chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with potatoes and side vegetables and for dessert a baileys and chocolate creme brulee. We were then given chocolate truffles with our coffees. I have to say every single thing was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed every mouthful. The risotto was creamy and delicious the chicken was moist and flavoursome and the dessert was pure heaven. I said to my partner that it's not often you feel satisfied and feel like you would happily pay more for the standard of food. We are always too happy to pay through the nose for mediocrity in this country.
The meal with drinks came to £66 which was an absolute bargain considering I've just paid 40 pound for 2 omelettes a croissant and a chicken wrap at another establishment.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Haven't been in years but think we may just be regulars again. Well done!

Having recently moved to the area from Surrey and being a southerner, I must fully disagree with the rubbish Sean d has previously wrote.
I can not speak highly enough of Dave and his wonderful team.
Dave himself has shown us ture northern hospitality at it's very best! Me and my entire family could not have felt more welcome.
If you want a excellent freshly cooked meal with superb service and a lovely pint! This is the place to eat and drink.
Happy New year to all the team at the white lion! Keep up the fabulous work!

Very disappointing. We went on a recommendation. 2 adults and a child. We hadn't booked a table before we went but it was early on a Saturday evening. The lady who greeted us said she would fit us in but made a comment about us not being long. She didn’t specify how long we could have the table for. The waiter came to take our drinks order. We asked for popadomms too. The pickle tray is the worst pickle tray I have seen and incredibly overpriced. 5 trays including 2 that are just diced onion. The waiter returned to take our order – we told him we didn’t want rushing as it was our night out and that we hadn’t decided yet – the waiter rudely asked us to “hurry up” and choose because he needed the table back in an hour. The restaurant either wants our custom or they don’t. Now feeling incredibly uncomfortable, we finished our drinks and decided to eat somewhere else. To summarise – if you want a nice relaxed evening then this is not the place to go.

Papas Fish and Chips

Quality, award winning family run fish & chip restaurant and takeaway (est. 1966). 80 seats, air conditioned, heated. Large car park suitable for coach parties. Open 7 days a week. Varied menu includes gluten free.

My visit here today was the first since September. The fish and chips were freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. I can recommend the baby fish and chips for anyone only wanting a small meal .The hot chocolate with whipped cream was lovely. I am not an expert on hot chocolate but it tasted of very good quality to me. Could have done with a saucer though, so I had somewhere to put my spoon. Had not seen any of the staff before but they were all very pleasant and obviously very well-trained. A minor point for anyone who has not been before the salt and pepper pots have large holes so I would take care when using them. It would be easy to sprinkle too much salt and pepper on your meal.

Came for a family meal (six adults and three children) and had an amazing experience. The food was well presented, testy and plentiful. The wine was delicious and the free lollipops and lemoncello a very nice gesture. The staff are very friendly and helpful, so much so that my niece asked our waiter for a hug . Would definitely recommend this place.
