Wow- it was the shockingly poor experience tonight that prompted me to get online and write this after coming home. This place struck out on just about every aspect of the evening.From the time we took our seats, took almost 30 minutes for drinks to come out and just about an hour for the food. Part of the delay was waiting 10 minutes just to get menus, then not seeing the server again for another 10 minutes. This despite the place being virtually empty. Question about a drink or menu item? Sorry, donât know, gotta ask a co-worker. See you again in another 10 minutes. Jazz nâ Fizz? Not quite. Fine, itâs Ramadan, so they donât have live music because thereâs less customer traffic, so letâs at least have some nice jazz music playing through the sound system to enjoy with our drinks and views. Nope. More like Jam nâ Fizz. The music through the tinny-sounding speakers came from a four-disc changer: Whitney Houston, Reggae hits, Michael Buble, and Eighties Love Rock cycling non-stop for 3 hours. We heard Bob Marley âweâre Jamminâ three times, no exaggeration. All this despite nicely asking the staff about 20 minutes in if they could please play jazz music in their jazz bar.And then the food. Itâs a cocktail bar, so thereâs only 15 items on the menu anyway. Okay. But itâs a Sofitel, and only 15 items, so they should be able to make them good quality. Nope. Tough, chewy sliders; greased-out tempura; skinny, meagre and over-cooked sate. At least the fries and dipping sauce were okay. Letâs have the oysters: no, sorry, not tonight. Ok, the sushi platter: no, sorry, donât have that either. Alrighty, then the Ottoman charcuterie platter: sorry, once again. But we do have the regular charcuterie platter with dried out bread.Again, just really surprised by the poor showing here, in complete contrast to the high rating on this site and normally reliable Sofitel quality. We were really looking forward to a change of pace from a regular sit-down restaurant dinner - a relaxing night out with good drinks, food, music and atmosphere. Instead we spent most of the time just wanting to finish up and get home.The only plus? The two (yes, two, including the bartender) employees working the lounge were friendly and polite, if inattentive.Wonât be back.
