Seeing how the restaurant occupies the basement of a typical old Soviet apartment building, the fake stone facade, massive wooden doors, wrought iron accents, statue of what looks like Friar Tuck outside- all might seem cheesy... However, once you walked in you're greeted with.. quality. Yes, the interior is in a style of a medieval castle dining room, it is as well done as such a thing could be, and because there are no windows to connect you to the outside world- a certain cozy atmosphere is created. When we had a late lunch there, the place was nearly empty, so we had the waitresses attention all to ourselves. She was very helpful and courteous. The menu includes both Russian and European dishes. Everything we ordered, and whatever was recommended by our waitress- was delicious. Our bill for 2 main courses, 3 appetizers + a few beers came to around $100. Steep by local standards, but given the service, ambience, and quality of food- worth it.

Maximillian is still a nice restaurant. They serve good beers from own brewery. We ordered a hamburger but we were surprised that we get 2 for 1 person. After mentioning that we only wat one, they packed the 2nd one for takeaway, a bit strange but probably the Russian way.

Was there several times, last time couple of years ago, they had a very yummy mushroom soup, which I cannot find anywhere else in the world. Soooo natural and delicious! And everything else is very good. Meat courses are always very nice. High quality restaurant! Highly recommended!

Ate there once with my colleagues during our work trip. Authentic place with wide selection of traditional Russian dishes. I had dumplings from beat meat, vareniki and pickles - all tasted very well. The place has a long history dating back to Soviet times and many city visitors still go there to reminisce their student years. Surprisingly prices are very reasonable.

This typical Russian pie is served here fresh and in many different flavors. Ideal if your touring St Petersburg and have a little time for lunch. Quick stop and you can try meat, salmon, or the one that I liked better: green onion and egg. 2-3 sizes would make it a good lunch. For desert? Same thing but sweet: apricots, strawberry, etc. Fresh, tasty, quick and authentic Russian dish.

Close to the Kuriva pedestrian street, this restaurant is having terrasse starting in May. We have been lucky with weather and had dinner at the terrasse. Menue and waitress with a bit of english talking. Make your choice for Ukrainian food and drink. I took a bosh and for main course pork on a bed of mash potatoes with mushroom. Good. They have Vodak with fruit mix (we took gooseberry) he was good and not to high in alcohol. I recommend the place if you are around.

Accidentally stumbled into this bar drawn by the lights on the street. Very nice selection of cocktails and other beverages, including calvados, pisco and some other rare staff for local places. Good music, friendly bartenders, great burgers. The place is rather small but very cozy, with lots of interesting touches in the interior design.

Huge variety of local beers and cider. Nice atmosphere. The owner is really smart. Although the place closes at midnight he let us stay until 3:00 AM while he was doing some of his admin. stuff. Will go back again when I return.
