Beautiful pub restaurant right in the centre of a beautiful town. I had drinks and dinner with friends in this lovely traditional pub which offered several hand pulled draught beers. The menu was comprehensive without being excessive, with good quality local produce plus a selection of eastern offerings. It is not a cheap eatery, neither is it excessively priced, as the quality, quantity and presentation well justifies the prices. The ambience of the pub was excellent with a mixture of locals and visitors present, all looked after by a charming lady from County Limerick. An ideal pub, restaurant and historical building all in one.

Our party consisted of 14 persons which included two under 10, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The menu, the quality and quantity of the food along with the service was outstanding. I cannot praise high enough of how we were welcomed and treated. The icing on the cake for me was the quality of the beer..... was to die for! Well done to all, especial our young waitress who was given an undeservedly tough time by a family behind us, all over an unfortunate spilling on the floor of custard, some people are just so ignorant!Thank you so much for the lovely review , yes I watched the custard incident on cctv and at the end of the day accidents happen and it's nice to hear customers backing up the waitress !

The Halfway House

Cotswolds food pub.

After deciding to give this a place a second go,,,After a so so meal a couple of years ago,,,,, Its an OK pub, If passing by But certainly not a "Destination" Pub The menu was one of the most uninspiring i have come across in ages, Apart from a jokey bit about "Brexit" Burgers ! The Slow Braised Beef & Sherry Pie, was naff, It came with a big lump of Puff pastry, With not much meat beneath it,, Nowhere near being good, Loads of average pubs do better Anyway my burger was quite good, With nice Bought in Burger patties ! Reminds me of Burger van days. The beers are ok, All in, a nice pub for drinks if passing, But on one side you have lovely Stowe on the Wold, And the other quite a few nice eateriesHi JohnThank you for leaving a review.Im not really sure how to respond. We used to make our burgers but volumes where that high that our butcher now makes them to our specification in Winchcombe. 100% chuck steak from the 7 Vales, 7oz in weight of pure beef. Homemade Willesey Smoked Baconnaise, award winning Taw Valley Cheddar. We currently sit at No.1 in the Cotswolds on TA for burgers as well as highly place by The Cotswold Gentleman, I am therefore surprised you have compared them with a burger van...Regarding our pie, I have only ever had 1 complaint in 4.5 years regarding any of our pies but I will investigate this as our meat content is usually 6-8oz.We all have different tastes and maybe we just aren't for you, as much as I would love to please everyone.Im sorry you were not pleased with your experience at the Halfway House.Kindest regardsTania

Although I've reviewed here previously, I hadn't visited for some time and noticed a marked improvement. I only phoned up not long before arriving later on a Saturday evening, and although it was extremely busy, we were seated straight away and received warmly. Really attentive and friendly service from all staff, informing us of specials and checking we were ok (but not too much). The food was delicious (we tried both the fishcakes for main, caesar salad, and chocolate mousse pudding, yum!) and the sunset view was the silver lining :)

Would definitely give this place another visit. Nice setting, atmosphere and the staff are very attentive. Ordered the meatballs and pasta which were very tasty but unfortunately the pasta was cold by the time we started eating. Perhaps if the pasta were served in pasta bowls which were warmed first it might help? Not sure how long the pasta had been waiting but it had definitely been put onto cold plates. It was a real real shame as everything else was so lovely and, with regards what you are paying, you would hope it would be spot on. The pasta dish wasnt cheap. Did mention to our waitress. However, the desserts were great! Would definitely recommend the brownie (crumble was tasty but tricky to eat out of a mug). Really good puds. Will definitely give this place another try and tell family and friends about it. Worth it for the atmosphere and puds alone!Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the puddings and we are sorry that you felt the pasta was not hot enough for you. We hope to see you again soon!

The service here is very warm and friendly. We called in twice recently for drinks, but the menu looks very intriguing, so we intend to return soon to try the fayre !

I visited here with friends on a Wednesday afternoon (17th) my husband and i popped over to see the historic town of winchcombe once again,we decided to have lunch as it was absolutely delicious! Certainly beat the Sunday dinner we had here when we visited the cotswolds last time around. Although it was busy the waitress amanda worked very hard on her own, making sure everything was ok with fellow diners, certainly put the 3 waitresses to shame that were working the Sunday we visited here, well done! On another note the building is absolutely beautiful, a lovely pub with a lovely garden area.
