Where to eat Pub food in Wichita: The Best Restaurants and Bars

March 3, 2020 Milan Banda

Find out what Pub restaurants to try in Wichita. Dorothy clicked her heels to return to Kansas, and you'll want to do the same after you've visited this one-time cattle town turned modern, booming city, where the spirit of the Old West lives on. To get a feel of the early pioneer days, visit the recreated village at the Old Cowtown Museum. For a slightly more eccentric experience, visit the Museum of Ancient Treasures, which has everything from a baseball signed by Joe DiMaggio to a shrunken head. The Indian Center Museum features works by Plains Indian artists. Wichita is an aircraft manufacturing center, and the Kansas Aviation Museum honors pioneers in the field, as well as housing model planes. Exploration Place gives kids more insights into aviation and other scientific wonders. For nature and wildlife, check out Botanica's lovely gardens or head over to the Sedgwick County Zoo, home to over 350 species of animals. Wichita stays up when the sun goes down: there's nightlife, culture, karaoke and cuisine for all tastes.

Easy access off the highway. Good menu selection. Very attentive staff. Tried the French dip sandwich and the chicken bacon dish smothered in cheese. Both good. A few aircraft models throughout the place. Pictures and other airplane parts. Give it a try.

Old Chicago

First, if you've never been to this location then you're missing out for three reasons: 1) This place was absolutely surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants, and artisan entertainment. 2) This was a fantastic location to simply walk the area and see a ton of unique attractions.3) This particular Old Chicago location had the most polite and funniest employees when compared to the other locations we've been to.There are of course the normal unique benefits of going to Old Chicago. They have consistently fantastic pizza, they have the beer tour, and of course, they are one of the few chain restaurants that actually cater to the crowd that prefers to sit at the bar, rather than a table or booth. This location differs a bit as you are never fighting for the attention of your bartender. They were very attentive and on the proverbial ball. The bar here was huge and full of seats. My wife had the Whiskey Bleu Burger and I had the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. Both were cooked medium well and both were tasty. The accompanying fries were crispy, hot, and filling. The waitstaff/bartender was on top of our every need, she was both polite and funny, the food was served within 15 minutes of ordering it, the food came out hot, and everything tasted excellent. The manager stopped by to thank us for visiting, was extremely polite, and was quite funny herself. In short, this was a rare perfect dining experience. They also have an outside seating area. I was told, on weekends, you can sit out here and enjoy your meal while watching street performers in the courtyard. Now, that sounded to be very interesting to us. We will be returning to try just that!

We went there for lunch and the food was great. Burgers are tasty and filling. The salad was great and the children's menu grilled cheese were excellent. Our waiter was very efficient and friendly. However, the hostess was less than friendly, obviously she doesn't like tables with children. Our waiter had to bring us menus, a booster chair (even though we asked for it when she seated us) and silverware.

I stopped by here for lunch before continuing on to Oklahoma. I have not eaten here before, and they had three locations. I was at this location for lunch. The place is clean, modern looking and included outdoor patio. One orders the food up front and then given a number and sit where ever you want. I opted for the bar, since it was a high top seating. The drinks ordered (I had water) was poured at the bar area. I have to admit, it looks like a full bar, with fresh ingredients (rosemary, mint, basil, fresh fruit, even a place to add "smoke" to a cocktail. If I was staying in Wichita over night, I might have tried their cocktail menu. I order the falafel bowl, under $10. Bowl is a misnomer, it came on a platter and it was huge. I could have split this with another person. The dish came with my choice of salad, I went with Tabbouleh, hot side of eggplant, hummus and both traditional pita and crunchy pita. Interesting that the dish came with fork and spoon but not a knife. I mention this because the eggplant pieces were large and could have used to one to cut it. It was soft enough to use the fork to cut it, but a knife would have been appreciated. Otherwise, all the flavors were there and it was a good stop. Thanks for visiting us while traveling through, Carol! Everybody raved about how good the pizza is here, and yes it’s really good, it’s different, it’s not the best I had and is not the best pizza in Wichita, but is better than Pizza Hut.In this particular occasion, I order 3 pizzas, one of them pizza Margarita, when the food was brought to me, the pizza margarita was missing the fresh basil. I asked my server about it and her reply was: ...” I don’t like basil”... I didn’t ask if she liked basil, I couldn’t care less if she did or not, I asked her to find out why my pizza had no basil, I had to request to see a manager, who in turn found out they had run out of the ingredient, so he apologized and gave me a gift card for a free appetizer for next time.Kids don’t belong in customer service jobs, they are immature and inexperienced. They need training, but I find hard to believe that training is going to make them care.

I came across this gem while looking for houses in the College Hill area of Wichita. From one direction, you can't even tell there is a restaurant in the building, so it almost didn't catch my eye. Once I saw it, I felt a good vibe and decided I would come back for a late lunch and check it out. Boy, am I glad I did.The hostess was not overly welcoming, but she may have been new or shy. I ate at a booth in the bar area and was served by the bartender who was fantastic with both her menu recommendations and providing just the right amount of attention for me, not too much and not too little. I tried the pretzel bits for an appetizer, a burger for the main course, and the brownie sundae and all were absolutely fantastic. The dessert and the fries that came with the burger were each enough to feed a table of 3 or 4, so perhaps consider that when you order sides and dessert.I'm looking forward to returning in two weeks when my wife and daughter come in for the house hunting!
