Wonderful restaurant! We started with several appetizers and all were delicious hummus, tomato kibbe, morel mushrooms, sujuk, artichokes, and roasted garlic. The fattoush salads crisp and tasty! The entrees outstanding from the Mixed Grill, my choice, the lamb was tender, the shish kafta a treat, the Shish Tawook very good. My wife had Shish Kabob which she found excellent. The baked fish was fabulous. A delightful evening I'm looking forward to returning!

We have eaten at Elie's about a dozen times and always enjoy it. Its outdoor seating puts you in the middle of Birmingham's action, and its menu has a good variety.I love shawarma and often fall into the trap of ordering it at Elie's. There are better places in Birmingham for it, and Elie's has better offerings. There are usually enticing specials. Not last night, however.Last night's dinner's service was especially disappointing and weighed on the entire experience. Non-alcoholic drinks were not refreshed, and salads were not brought to the two diners whose meals included them (the server said that they are included but only served upon request -- if you have to ask...).

We met up with some friends here for lunch and it was the perfect place for that. The food was what we expected coming to a Mediterrenean place but some of the spices and flavoring were overpowering. There were nice long picnic style tables for larger groups which worked for us. We would come back but it wasn't anything spectacular.

This place has great food. The hot bread and hummus are delicious as are their salads and entrees. And you can depend on the consistency of the preparation. I'm a regular here and really it is one of the best places to eat in the downtown area. My gripe is with the service. The only waiter working most nights(the guy with the white shoes) is always having a smoke outback and NEVER waits on his tables. I've had to deal with this situation for at least a year now. The older man behind the counter only wants to ring up takeout and seems blind to the fact that all the tables are growing impatient for service. I found myself actually waving him down for help and my check! The man who pours water is a delight and great, however. I keep wondering why he isn't waiting on tables! Anyway, if you can deal with poor service this is great food. I do hope you're listening PITA CAFE, as many people I know have sworn you off because of bad service!
it is not always easy to find - kinda buried in a strip mall, but worth the trip. fun place for breakfast, and lunch. Dinner is usually fast and completely edible and not bad. in the morning there are usually several groups that gather for coffee and breakfast. Something of a local, neighborhood hangout. Carry out is quite good too. must try -- the cucumber sauce and the gyro, the village salad and the red dressing.
