There are several taco places in Athens, and some may be cheaper than Barberitos, but none of them are as good as Barberitos and here are a few reasons why: -Good salsa. The house salsa is a nice, slightly spicy tomato-onion-lime-cilantro combo. I believe that they make it in-house because it's always fresh. Their tomatillo sauce is equally fresh and tasty, and their chipotle sauce gives quite a kick, so use it sparingly if you're sensitive (unlike me--I prefer to leave with a pepper-induced runny nose). Plus, most locations have a salsa bar so you can get as much as you need without having to grovel for more. -Good selection of proteins. They serve ground beef, chicken, spicy chicken (my favorite), and spicy tofu daily, and on Fridays you can get jerk fish. -Good selection of veggies for your taco/burrito, including fresh jalapenos and cilantro. -Good selection of sizes, from the giant fatty burrito to the soft taco. I usually get a mini burrito and it's more than enough for lunch. -Fairly efficient and friendly service. I'm usually there at lunch rush so I don't exactly expect them to chat with me, but they are at least polite when things get busy. -Decent price. A meal will run you about 10 bucks or more if you go hog wild; a mini burrito with meat, side of chips, and a drink is about $8.00; a small taco with chips and a drink will be around $6.00. Barberitos is a small franchise now, and my positive review is based on the downtown and Epps Bridge locations. I have found that some other locations have been lacking in quality and service, particularly the one at Hamilton Mill in Gwinnett county.

I expected an On The Border type restaurant, but this is set-up like Moe's and Chipotle: you design your own taco, burrito, or bowl. The topping options are decent enough, so you won't have any trouble finding something to appease your taste buds. There is seating both in and outside and the service was quick and friendly. My 9-year old enjoyed her tacos and I found my burrito to be flavorful and fresh. On the whole, I'd visit again.

Server was good, food was delivered quickly, place was clean, but the hostess was off. Threw our menu on the floor and generally did not sound like she wanted to be there. The rest of the staff were very good. Bowls were tasty and the tacos we had were full, of a little too full, with maybe a little too much sauce. The price seemed right.

Typical Mexican food menu - dishes are good, consistent, reasonably priced; portions are generous. Wait staff is efficient, helpful, and friendly. Nice atmosphere for meeting with friends - the waiters let you sit and visit without rushing you; it's not noisy or rowdy. We eat here at least once a month - it's a comfy local restaurant with a relaxed feel.

Wonderful staff, delicious burritos, light chips but very subpar salsa. We eat here once a year leaving a show at UGA. These are in the top two burritos that we choose to eat. The light chips are better than what we consider to be their closest rival but they were over-salted this visit. There are only two salsa choices; one I wouldn't even consider and the other far too runny with only minimal taste-I do NOT mean it needs more heat. Would love to see them improve and jump to the top of our list.

My daughter and I tried the empanadas dinner and both loved it! They have several different fillings, and we tried chicken, tinga chicken, and ham and cheese (the tinga chicken is spicy and was my favorite). The food is quick and fresh, and the servers were friendly and helpful. I went back a second time and had the lunch chicken chimichanga, which was also delicious with two kinds of sauce (red and green), rice and chips. What a great addition to Watkinsville restaurants.

Please ignore the "authentic" in this restaurant name. Believe me, it's not. Stale thick chips, liquid salsa with absolutely no flavor or spice, shrimp fajitas that were anemic: combine that with an extremely noisy restaurant and you have the recipe for one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I can't imagine anyone ever returning to this restaurant after the first time. Awful.
