Where to eat Mexican food in Phoenix: The Best Restaurants and Bars

August 23, 2020 Randal Brittian

Reviews on Mexican food in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Nearly perfect year-round weather and several impeccably designed championship courses have made Phoenix one of the top golf destinations in the world. But there's more to this mild-mannered metropolis than pristine greens and tee times. The greater Phoenix area also offers visitors an array of impressive cultural attractions. Visit the internationally renowned Heard Museum for an in-depth look at Native American history or peruse the fine collection at the Phoenix Museum of Art. Enjoy a ballet performance at the ornate Orpheum Theater or or catch a concert at the state-of-the-art Comerica Theatre. In addition to golf, the city offers access to numerous outdoor endeavors including rock climbing, hot-air ballooning, desert jeep tours and more. Family-friendly attractions, first-rate shopping, dining and entertainment, and spectacular recreational activities make Phoenix a must-visit destination.

If you’re looking for gourmet authentic delicious Mexican food, make your way to La Santisima. They have the best guacamole I have ever had in my entire life! The margarita was housemade and mixed perfectly l. The salsas at the salsa bar were delicious. We had a few different kinds of tacos that our waitress recommended and a burrito and everything was unreal.

Tasty. The guacamole was pretty good. The shrimp tacos were good but needed a pinch more of something. Would have liked to have seen a couple more fish/seafood options. Nice atmosphere. Professional staff. Worth a visit. Location is off the beaten path.

First time to the guild and it didn’t disappoint. Went on a Saturday late afternoon and it was already crowded but we managed to find two seats at the bar. Great selection of drinks and a very impressive bar! The menu also had a great selection, we had several tacos including pork, lamb and short ribs. Great atmosphere with live music and the staff was very helpful and super friendly. 9.5 out of 10 on my scale.

I just cannot rave about this Phoenix landmark. People from out of town always want to go there, and I take them. I'm never impressed. The restaurant never lives up to the reviews. The atmosphere is only fair and after many visits have never been wowed by anything on the menu.

We stopped here for an early dinner and really enjoyed the short rib tacos. We were inside because we are from out of town and not used to the heat. The patio outside looked really nice, maybe if we are here in the winter next time we can try that. Our server Kara was really nice as well. Do not miss the home made cookies on the way out! Delish!

Our last night of holiday in Arizona and doing some last minute shopping at Total Liquor store. A customer there highly recommended Sierra Bonita Grill. Although she seemed a wee bit tipsy we too a chance. It was such a good move. Super Bowl Sunday and the place was very quiet. We were greeted in a very casual, friendly way and taken to a cosy booth. The decor is very pleasant and seating comfortable. Our server was a charming, enthusiastic young man who was able to make describe the dishes and make recommendations for us. He willingly helped one of our party make choices relative to a serious food allergy. The kitchen was able to easily accommodate his needs. The food was delicious! It was definitely the best meal we had on our 9 day trip through Arizona. Portions was generous but not foolishly large. The sauces were so flavourful and each very different from the other. I have no reservations giving this restaurant and "excellent" rating.

A little hard to find because there is no large "Dick's Hideaway" sign outside. You have to know where this gem of a restaurant is located. Popular with locals and winter visitors it gets very busy and has a friendly "Cheers" bar atmosphere. The food is deliciously out of this world if you are not afraid of spice. Happy hour is great where there are deals on drinks and delicious food. My husband loves the appetizer mini ribs. Lots of seafood on the daily menu along with their customary enchiladas and southwestern cuisine. A must go to restaurant for myself and my guests!

We've been going here for years, and it has become my husband's favorite Phoenix restaurant (which is saying a lot since we live between Scottsdale, Arcadia and central Phoenix, all areas blessed with phenomenal eateries). Not only is the food great, but the owner and staff make you feel extremely welcome. If you want a taste of the southwest with our "home town" hospitality, this is the place!

The Trip Advisor crowd is totally right on this restaurant. We found it looking for Mexican around the airport even though we were headed up to Sedona. Upon arrival, we knew it was the right choice just from the parking lot. We were promptly greeted by the owner and seated outside. Eduardo our server, who had a really cool watch and super friendly demeanor, took great care of us. We were really there for meat dishes but on his recommendation, I tried a vegetarian taco with the Al Pastor and Beef Tenderloin. No joke, the vegetarian one was just as good if not slightly ahead of the others. Really can't recommend this place enough.
