Without having any expectation of what's to come, we decided to visit the Dunkelrestaurant in Siegen, and live the experience for ourselves. At the beginning we were pretty hesitant to enter, as the atmosphere of the restaurant was unusually calm, but the warm welcome from "Jan" - more about him later - changed our hearts and we decided to make the best of the night. In a matter of seconds, the tension broke down, and the atmosphere changed to lively atmosphere full of laughs (and awkward moments). A bit about Jan:Jan is the founder of the restaurant, a guy full of energy and character. However, an accident at his teen years made him lose his sight. I will leave the rest of the story out, so that you can hear it from him in person during your visit. Most of the night, our host Jan, spoke to us in English, and every now and then threw a joke in German (due to play of words, a translation was not possible). Furthermore, Jan answered all our questions and shared with us his story in details without any hesitation.About the restaurant:There are countless ways to enjoy your time at this restaurant, and I am planning to try each and every one of them. Whether it is a group of friends eating in the dark, a blind date!, celebrating a birthday, or dancing in the dark (Dance floor with music and laser lights are available), a unique experience is guaranteed.About the food:We chose the Pizza + Salad + Drink variant. Food was ordered from a nearby restaurant "Da Vinci", which is my personal favorite Pizzeria in Siegen. Food was then served by Jan himself inside the Dunkelrestaurant. Moreover, to hype up the suspense while eating, we have let Jan decide which Pizzas to order for us.P.S. Vegan and Vegetarian options are available, so no worries ;)End thoughts:In a first world country, like Germany, one might think that the system has evolved to include and embrace people with certain disabilities in the society. Unfortunately, the system is far from this, and the society is even miles behind. That's why I encourage you all to go ahead and try their shoes, get a glimpse of their world, and try to sustain that feeling. A message to Jan:Your courage, patience and attitude to life are inspiring. Blindness did not stop you from doing great things.

We were part of a larger group for Sunday lunch, which was served buffet style. Every dish was tasty. Particularly good were the desserts. Should you visit Siegen, this is one the places to eat.

It is a nice and cosy new tapas bar very close to the the pedestrian zone in the upper part of the old town of Siegen. We ended up there because it was recommended by friends and we stopped for a glas of wine. We had a nice cuvee of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon I would warmly recommend to all wine lovers! They offer as well tapas. The wine selection is small, but excellent, and I would really recommend the place because it is still very much central but cosy enough if you would like just to sit down with your friends and relax. It is a mixture between a tapas bar and a cafe, depeding on the time of the day and ... your wishes ;-) Nice staff: the two owners Isa and Isabelle will make you really feel at home.
