We were in Sant Llorenc de la Muga (a wonderfully tranquil setting in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Costa Brava) for 5 nights in July. Whilst there, we were recommended to try the food of a young chef named David at L'hostal de l'aigua, Sant Llorenc de la Muga. From the moment he spoke to us to describe some of the dishes on and off his menu, it was clear that he was very passionate about his food and the courses that we were served after that were simply exquisite. Make no mistake, David is a chef and not just a cook.A small shot of refreshing melon soup followed by a starter of salad with goat's cheese cooked in filo pastry set the tone for our first meal. This was followed by the most tender and succulent duck confit garnished with thin fried potato shavings and a perfect accompaniment of pear chutney. The meat literally fell off the bones. David, who is a charming and friendly host as well, also served us a jug of excellent sangria using a recipe inherited from his father. We ate at L'hostal de l'aigua twice and each time the bill for two including 1 starter, 2 main courses and a jug of sangria was in the region of 40 Euro which was exceptional value for the quality of dining experience that we received.If you are ever in Sant Llorenc de La Muga, you must make time to sample the food of this brilliant chef and once you have, you will keep coming back for more..

We were in Ceret visiting the art museum and doing our laundry. We saw this little gem down the street. It filled up fast and we soon knew we had scored. There are plenty of menu options and my husband and I each had the fish plat. Both were different...mine was lieu jaune with pesto and glass noodles. It was amazing, as was my husbandâs fish with shrimp on top. The dishes that came out of the kitchen were works of art...salads, plats, entrees, and desserts. The prices were reasonable and the service was fantastic. And what a pretty little spot with all things garden as decor. Donât miss this little gem if you are in Ceret.

I visited during the summer on the recommendation of friends. It is good to have another restaurant in Ceret that is a little off the beaten track and was expecting something special. Firstly i would say the service was excellent as was the wine. Not so good, bland starters and only one of the fish dishes we had was any good. Our bill seemed to creep up to the high side for what we had.

We have gone there many many many times for a very simple reason: excellent food and fantastic service.There are different menus each season of the year. And they include the products of the region and of these seasons.Very worth to try the courses with mushrooms and game meat.To come back for sure.

The photos speak for themselves, heavenly food and wine, excellent service, friendly, attentive, helpful staff. Set Menu - each course was magnificently presented and locally sourced.

The restaurant is just outside the town of la Vajol which allows it to have such a spacious building, with plenty of natural light, set in a more spacious grounds, which include a swimming pool and some children's playground equipment, and is surrounded by native forest and views of the Pyrenees. The restaurant is therefore best enjoyed in summer, when you can choose to eat in or outside, though is also very enjoyable in other seasons including winter. The menu is strongly influenced by local dishes and is of a consistently good quality, with menus available in English (though there is not so much spoken - Spanish, Catalan and French will be needed). The service is very personal and the charismatic owner seems to get to meet and socialise with all guests at some point. Prices are very reasonable for Spain and much cheaper than in neighbouring France (2km away). Well worth a stop for a leisurely lunch!

Set in the hills this restaurant is clearly very popular with Spanish and French people. We were really fortunate to arrive just after midday and had a table on the terrace overlooking the hills. The view is amazing. The food is brilliant. Nothing fancy but beautifully cooked. I had the lamb and my husband chose the wild boar. Both were delicious. Arrive early for a seat. The bill was very reasonable and you will not go home hungry. Will definitely go again

We actually live only about 40 minutes' drive from Maçanet de Cabrenys, a tiny Pyrenean village just over the border from our French village into Spain. Maçanet is a lovely, lively village, with a great old-fashioned Spanish-style café and a beautiful medieval church. Surrounding scenery is gorgeous. La Quadra is a hotel-restaurant in the heart of the village, which, despite its remoteness and its small size, boasts at least a half-dozen eating places. Yesterday was a gorgeous early fall day, so we made a special trip to Maçanet to try La Quadra out. And we're happy we did! You have the choice of a prix fixe menu at about â¬21, with plenty of choice for each course. Or you can have the so-called tasting menu for â¬27, where, after a little amuse-bouche, there are fixed starters of cod carpaccio followed by seafood cannelloni. From there, one passes to a main course to be chosen among maigret de canard, roast lamb shoulder, grilled sirloin, and a hake casserole with prawns, squid, calamari, and mussels. We both chose the last. And finally, there is a big choice of desserts, including pears baked in coffee, which we chose, along with a plate featuring small portions of four of the restaurant's classic desserts. Service was excellent, rapid, attentive, but not obsequious or too fast. The restaurant filled up, surprising at a Tuesday lunch, but evidence of the restaurant's reputation, given that it is not on anyone's way to anywhere. In retrospect, I wish we had taken the daily menu at â¬21. I found the fish cannelloni and the seafood "casserole" to be too similar, all in a predicable if good tomato-based sauce. This is a very fine village restaurant but not a spectacular restaurant, based on our meal choices. Next time -- and there will be a next time very soon -- I want to pick and choose among the starter and main course offerings, to give myself more variety and the restaurant more opportunity to excel. Some of the offerings made my mouth water: casserole of escargots; courgettes stuffed with Roquefort in a mushroom sauce; stewed cuttlefish with meat balls; baked veal cheek with mushrooms; and several others. House wine was drinkable, setting pleasant, table linens perhaps too informal. Opening hours adjusted for the French clientele over the border, with lunch beginning as early as 1230, with the Spaniards and Catalans arriving after 130. Dinner begins at 730pm. A very very good experience overall, to be repeated.Thank you very much for taking some of your time and sharing your opinion.
