Where to eat Mediterranean food in Graz: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 23, 2020 Tynisha Seiler

Reviews on Mediterranean food in Graz, Styria, Austria. A bevy of universities give Austria's second-largest city its lively pace. Baroque palaces are a pleasant contrast with 16th-century courtyards and provocative modern buildings. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, teems with fine architecture, including the Burg castle complex, with its Gothic double staircase, and the graceful Uhrturm clock tower. A funicular takes visitors up the dramatic bluff. The River Mur dashes through the city, and thermal springs dot the surrounding countryside.

Friendly place and a lively atmosphere. Great house wine, excellent antipasti platter, good desserts. But the main was a disaster for some of us! A few were lucky and chose the pork sauce (delicious) but the tomato/mozzarella vegetarian sauce was almost non-existent and very, very bland. Also, the pasta wasn't properly cooked - not even al dente. So, we had a good time and our friends assured us that it's usually much better here, however the main course was very underwhelming. Reasonable prices.

The food was great, but the restaurant is missing some ambient music and wi-fi. We also didn't know what we are ordering because menu was not in English (only in Italian and German). So some of us didn't know exactly what we ordered. We didn't regret going in this restaurant, but the experience is not for the first ranked pizzeria in Graz.

This restaurant is located in the old location of the El Greco Greek restaurant and should not be confused with this restaurant. This restaurant is extremely professional and the decor from the El Greco has been completely removed and is significantly upgraded. The ambiance is subtle with low key music playing in the background with oil paintings scattered around the walls. The restaurant is run by Italians and the food is clearly Italian inspired however, there are the touches of the local food delicacies that are needed for attaining a Michelin Star which is the clear goal of this establishment. However, due to the quality, delivery and attention to detail of the diners experience I am pretty sure this will be the 1st Michelin Star restaurant in Styria. Myself and my wife took the surprise menu that consisted of Fish soupSmoked salmon and caviar Oyster LangoustineGnocchiTomato pumpkin soup Lamb chopTruffle risotto Creme brûlée mooseSpeciality wine from Italy and south Styria The waiters will keep asking you if you want a break. Be careful as you’ll keep drinking your wine and hence a second bottle will be presented to you. The waiters know their business.Cost 278 euro This is truly amazing restaurant Well recommended

Located in the backside of the Rathaus, away from the main square and across the street from its sister restaurant, El Gaucho, El Pescador is upscale casual in the heart of old town Graz. The interior is cleverly laid out in mostly small tables that make great use of the available space (just be sure to NOT accept the two-top adjacent to the toilet). The staff were attentive and friendly, though constantly busy. The food arrived at an excellent pace and I would be happy to recommend any of the items we ordered. The fish soup was a luscious opener, particularly on a chilly evening. My braised octopus main was perfectly cooked and went very well with the grilled polenta. I was a little surprised by the dollop of sour cream in the middle, but stirred into the red sauce braising liquid and eaten at the end it was a nice finisher. A side of mixed grilled mushrooms Pires nicely. My wife raved about her grilled char, particularly the crispy skin, and loved the side of grilled vegetables. We would both be happy to eat here again.

L'Enoteca dei Ciclopi

After barely getting a table the night before, I wanted to make sure I had a reservation for the evening. I had the hotel call two places, but neither could promise me a seat. I passed this place going back and forth to my hotel, so stopped the late afternoon and made a reservation. Now having just spent a month in Italy, my expectations were fairly low. The place bills itself as Sicilian, but probably only half of the menu items (which weren’t that many) could be categorized as “Sicilian”. I decided to play it safe, so I ordered the mixed antipasto platter, which was fine – salami, prosciutto, capocollo, cheese, olives and some fried cauliflower. I ordered a glass of the house white, which unfortunately tasted oxidized to me. I pointed this out and was given a replacement glass of grillo. Main course was grilled calamari and grilled vegetables. This turned out to be quite good. The calamari were cooked perfectly. The big surprise were the grilled vegetables. They did not try to mimic Sicily by cooking eggplant or zucchini, but, instead, the provided was readily available locally – potatoes, cauliflower and winter squash. The vegetables were the best part of the meal and I give them credit for that. Only three people were working and at least two seemed to be both cooking and serving. The kitchen is tiny and open, so I’m pretty sure each dish is done individually. The fish dishes were definitely on the pricey side, which is not terribly surprising. I didn’t have a bad experience, just not overwhelmingly positive either.

I visited yesterday the "Osteria dei Sensi" in Graz (AT) with my wife. In a friendly and nice atmosphere, we had the pleasure to taste true classic typical italian specialities like "spaghetti alla scoglio" and the more sofisticated "risotto al limone", followed by well prepared "grigliata di pesce", together with very tasteful italian white and red wine.Last but not least, the chef and the weiters are true italian guys.If you like real and true italian food, try it!

It is a small italian restaurant. The guy who welcomed us seemd to be italian and very hospitable and nice. Food was very good and so was the staff and ambiance.Attached is what we had for the main course. For the begining we took octopus salad which was very good and after thjat some linguini with sea fruits.Prices are not too high.
