Firstly you can’t get anywhere near this restaurant by car, you have to leave your car at the bottom of Vejer and walk up. It gets busy so to be guaranteed a table it’s best to book. Spanish and English menus with lots of very interesting dishes with some unusual ingredients like cod swim bladder (callo de bacalao). Not brave enough to try this I opted for a cold soup, Porra Antequerana which is a thicker version of gazpacho and was delicious, after this I ordered an Asian influenced dish ‘ensalada templada con huevo’ which had lots of different elements and was really tasty, I didn’t like the presentation much though in a big jar. My partner had lasagna made with matured Retinta beef which is a local breed of cattle, it was very clever, whereby they had deconstructed the dish and made a much lighter version with a crispy topping. For desserts we had chocolate brownie with ice-cream and their fake tomato stuffed with mousse, which had a slight savoury element about it. We really enjoyed the food here, it was exciting and different, full of flavour and cooked with flair, what we didn’t like here was the service. They had 2 waiters running the entire restaurant and the bar, we had enormous waits between dishes and many of the dishes we ended up receiving separately instead of together. On this occasion we didn’t mind too much as we had nowhere else to be, we would definitely come here again for lunch, but only when we have the whole afternoon to spare! Therefore even though the food was great I have had to mark it down because of the incredibly slow service.

Tucked away under the castle walls this is easily missable on multiple strolls around Veyer. For wine lovers, look beyond the impressive food reviews which are likely focused on the upstairs restaurant rather than than tapas space downstairs and street side, just settle in and enjoy the wine and sherry available at a good price. Tag on some tapas by all means, we had 4 and needed no more given our wine focus.

We made a reservation to have lunch, and the manager was very kind and had the perfect table for us. When we arrived, the table was located at an excellent place, away from direct sun and wind, so we could enjoy our meal.We ordered a banana guacamole with vegetable chips, goat cheese/asparagus risotto with quail meatballs, and also local fish that had a zesty marinade. Absolutely delicious! Waitresses were very professional. The restaurant and bathroom very clean. I had the pleasure to meet the manager who made the reservation and she was also the chef that cooked our amazing meals! Highly recommended, fair prices and excellent quality.Muchísimas gracias por su visita y por sus palabras, para nosotros es un placer recibirles y hacer que su paso por La Laja sea de lo más agradable posible.

AROHAZ Restaurante

We were actually aiming to eat in another restaurant nearby in Zahora but there was no way to park. I don’t usually review a restaurant after one visit but they’re closing tomorrow for the “winter” so I won’t get back there for quite some time. To start with, the service was efficient and friendly. We shared a falafel for the first course. For the second, my friend ate some solomillo which had been marinaded in something or other. He was very pleased with it. I had the caballas, chunks of marinaded mackerel with a tasty mayonnaise and red pepper jam. Mackerel is not a very highly- regarded fish but it has an excellent flavour. When you don’t have to separate it from the bones, but can concentrate on the flavour, and enjoy the good that the omega 3 is doing you, it’s a no-brainer. In short, a very enjoyable meal. We’ll be back next year, maybe, though out of season again.

I hadn’t been to La Tertulia before. I was very pleasantly surprised by the meal we had there today. Sadly, it’s about to close for the winter so I should give you my opinion. We were looking for good meat, and we got it. A chuleton de vaca retinta, well cooked and with excellent accompaniment. The chips were excellent. I could go into greater detail but there is no reason to do so. The service was first class. We’ll probably be back, even though this restaurant is a bit far from where we normally eat. In the summer months we would probably avoid it. It’s nice to see how many relatively new restaurants are continually cropping up, with offerings that reflect the splendid improvement in quality and imaginativeness of Spanish cuisine.

The best seafood dishes you can wish for, totally fresh, well presented and excellent flavours, service friendly and efficient. The ambience is great totally Spanish, lots of noise from happy clients, family orientated restaurant, Great variety of dishes. Just be careful when asking for the bill they add automatically the crackers they give in a basket whether you eat them or not. We tried all different kind of dishes 2 consecutive days and enjoyed the whole experience , Would strongly recommend for anyone that prefer good quality food at reasonable prices.

This is a delightful semi outdoor restaurant, under a canopy in a lovely garden. The restaurant is busy, and well organised by friendly, attentive but not fussy staff. The ambience is relaxed, and the focus is very much on the food. Starters show plenty of choice; we had superb croquetas and a plate of tempura anchovies. Be warned; the plate of anchovies is massive, and plenty for two as a starter or even a light lunch! Given the area, the red tuna is a must try, and a whole section of the menu is devoted to this local delicacy. We were not disappointed; serving tuna as a tartare or sashimi style demands the freshest and highest quality fish, and that’s exactly what we got. Tartare was served on a guacamole style base, and was subtly marinaded. The sashimi had been seared very quickly with a coating of sesame and poppy seeds, then served with wasabi and a soy dip. Both were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Sharing from each other’s plates in the Spanish style is expected and encouraged, and we took full advantage! There is a small range of desserts, again, beautifully prepared and served. We can recommend the cheesecake with fig compote(sounds a bit ‘ho hum’, but not when it’s as well done as this!), and my personal star of the show, ‘la Brena ‘. This is a house dish made from local ingredients, and I’ve never tasted anything like it. It’s a mousse, but with some really unusual textures and flavours, and definitely not to be missed. We were watching other dishes coming out from the charcoal-grill equipped kitchen, and thinking ‘I want to try that’. We’re going back....

I went to the opening party of this beachside restaurant in March, and it was wonderful - a delicious selection of tapas and drinks and friendly staff and visitors. I went by myself as my boyfriend was working and stayed all day chatting to new friends. I enjoyed lovely, crispy tortillitas de camarones (local speciality), salmon ceviche, breads, local meats and dips - all fresh and flavourful and artfully presented. The decor inside is clean, fresh and quirky (see photos), and the patios are great for enjoying the balmy evenings with a partner or friends and family. If you're spending the day on Zahora beach you might not realise how close this is, as it doesn't front the beach itself - but it's only a few steps up past the Sajorami and well worth a visit.Thank you very much for the fabulous and detailed description you have made of La Bruma!! We are very happy to know that your opinion about our food and our facilities is so good!! Thank you very much for sharing your experience here and recommending our restaurant. We hope to see you again very soon !!
