Mizusawa udon noodle is very thick and somewhat chewy (in a very good way). Sesami dipping source is as tasty as standard soy dipping source. You should try Tempra when you visit. It's fresh and crispy.

The shop is in the middle of the stone stairway "ISHIDAN". After visiting Ikaho Shrine at the top, I ate Tamakonnyaku, famous for Gumma. In English-speaking countries, Konnyaku is called "devil's tongue", but this is boiled just with soy sauce, it is very tasty, cheap (100 yen) matching with beer. There is a bench in front of the shop, or you can eat while walking. But please do not throw trash into ISHIDAN.

This is great place to grab high quality curry with one of the best Mizuasawa noodle corroboration! Thick noodle is tummy-happy :) and curry is made with the corroboration of fancy curry restaurant in Tokyo. If you like spicy, it's your kind... and if you like Japanese curry that's not spicy, it's your place too!

Like most visitors to the Misusawa Kannon, it wouldn’t be complete without a good udon meal which is famous in this area. We picked Tamaru-ya located like 50m before the flight of stairs leading to the temple. It was during the praying festive so the restaurant was packed but fortunately without reservation, the wait was less than 10mins. We had to write our names (using Japanese) on a waiting list so I am not sure if they recognise English but I think ordering wouldn’t be a problem for non-japanese speakers as they do have pictures of most dishes in menu. The soup udon was unique and the sauce (to choose between two) for the udon served cold was special. The udon were kind of springy with good volume if that’s what you like. Also try the omelette (tamago yaki) which is nicely grilled and sweet and I think the fungi tempura is a specialty of the prefecture. The seating was tatami style and several interesting decorations inside the restaurant.
