This place is a hidden gem, a favourite among locals and Uni students. First, let me preface this review, I'm from San Francisco where I spoild, especially because of all the good pizza available in the city. Honestly, until I found Unter Freunden, I experienced culture shock because of all the terrible pizza in Germany. Before Heidelberg, I also lived in Berlin, but while I was there, I had to brace myself for a life without pizza:( One of my worst experiences in Berlin, was when my German friends invited me out for pizza. Suffice to say, I survived, otherwise I couldn't have written this review. Until I met Unter Freunden, I assumed Germans were suffering from some sought of sensory deprivation, because they seemed to enjoy pizza in Berlin. I lived in Heidelberg for over a year, before I discovered this restaurant; all I can say is: "better late than never". Apparently, pizza isn't dead in Germany, thank the heavens. In fact, this restaurant makes pizza that is as good as anything that I have eaten in San Francisco or any other city in the USA. This restaurant has renewed my faith in the human race, and, I am no longer suffering from culture shock, either.I'll give you a short low down regarding "Unter Freunden". First, they cut the pizza into square slices; they do the cutting with giant scissors (one for meat (a red one) and a green handled one for vegetarian pizza. Vegetarians don't have to worry about meat juices getting in their pizza, which is pretty common in all pizza restaurants. They have a great variety of meat pizzas and vegetarianâ ones, as well. They use scissors to cut pieces from big square pizzas, the preparation area looks like a giant checker board made of pizza.They weigh the pizza before you buy, this allows you to order a variety of different pizza slices, talk about choice! And, that's exactly what most people do, unless they stick with their favorites. All their pizza is backed really well, it's got wonderful airy texture.My criticism, is the unusual seating arrangement, many of the tables are small, as if they were made for children. The mismatching seats and tables look like they were all bought in flea market. I suppose, they are going for a "student's apartment" ambiance, it might even be appropriate here in Heidelberg, which is a famous German University town. But, if you are a tall person, it can be a little disconcerting, when all the "grown-up" tables are occupied.Nevertheless, I give this place five stars, and will probably eat there tomorrow. I don't eat pizza anywhere else in Heidelberg.

We arrived early in the evening, and watched as the restaurant gradually filled with a combination of local residents, businessmen and tourists. Quiet, friendly and attentive service bought antipasto misto, and aubergine stuffed with Parma ham and cheese, for starters; followed by spaghetti casa and home made tortellini with ricotta and spinach in a sage and butter sauce - all delicious. This is a good restaurant slightly off the main tourist track, and well worth seeking out.

This restaurant is tucked away on a side street just beyond the bus and tram terminus but is well worth seeking out. It was a hot evening and we sat on a pleasant patio area with a fountain and garden visible beyond.The food was excellent, tasty and reasonably well priced. There was plenty of choice on the menu (no pizzas) and a specials board. The wine was good too. We were given an English menu and the staff spoke good English. They were all efficient and helpful. It appears a popular place so I would suggest booking.

We had some really good pasta for lunch here. Both dishes were fresh and delicious, the staff was friendly and the pricing not cheap but not too expensive either. Unfortunately the waiting time for the food was really long and there's plain bread, without butter or oil and balsamico served before the food.

We spent only one night in Ziegelhausen which is right outside of Heidelberg. The manager at our B&B recommended the restaurant "Capri" when we told him we were in the mood for Italian food. He said it is a local favorite and I can understand why. We loved everything, from the warm, impeccable service by actual Italians to the delicious, thin-crust Pizza and fresh, beautifully arranged salad. The menu contains a well thought out variety of different toppings and Pizza specialties. The prices were excellent and the restaurant offered great outdoor seating. I can highly recommend it!

I arrived at a late summer evening (with temperatures around 29 C.). I got a table out on the street, had good food (salad and pasta of the day) and nice German beer. That was good.

Recently opened fantastic Italian restaurant-simple Italian food raised to great heights with a wonderful head waiter (possibly owner) who really knows how to run a restaurant! Quite simply the finest Italian meal my wife and I have ever eaten and we have eaten quite a few! In a lovely setting overlooking the little market square, great staff, wonderful food and wine, canât speak highly enough of the place. I hope it is a success as if we ever return to Neckargamund we will want to eat here again!

The Italian food at this Italian restaurant was excellent. Grilled vegetable appetizers were creative, and wonderfully flavorful. Salads were great. Steak, which they seem to specialize in, was a disappointment. Biggest disappointment was that the advertised size was not possibly what was served. The 500 gram T-Bone was the same size as the 240 gram sirloin. The bone was small, and not possibly 260 grams. Plus, the taste was just mediocre. Would go again, but skip the steak, and order all Italian.
