Ciao Bella Restaurant

Reviewed By Magellan3

In search for a restaurant that brings a level of quality the Region desperately deserves, we made a first time visit to Ciao Bella. A slow start from service was a look into the future of what we can expect from our food. When asked about why they were using a special Valentine’s Day menu three days after the holiday, we were inadvertently tipped off that the food was prepared in advance. Management refused to offer anything from their regular menu. Had I realized it then, I would have walked out. Their special menu reflected prices averaging $7 above their normal menu pricing. The Linguini di Mare was lackluster. The seafood was small and chewy. It tasted like it came from a bulk bag you would buy from a wholesale club warehouse. The Gnocchi Della Nona was flavorless. I tried their spicy tomato sauce on the linguini and spaghetti and the best way that I can describe it is a watered down version of Chef Boyardee sauce minus the meat. Shirley Temples for the kids were flat and tasted like plastic. An unfortunate first and last visit to Ciao Bella.

Scrementi's Restaurant and Banquets

By mid-week I need a break, so my girl friend and I decided this was the place to settle upon. The bruschetta and olive samples pair perfectly with the complimentary bread. Tuesdays bogo wine specials lure us there, as we peruse the menu and the food specials. Consistently great food makes chosing something new difficult. Chicken vesuvio (one of several chicken preparations), linguini with white clam sauce (fresh pasta abounds), anything shrimp, gizzards (new to me and drop-dead delicious), cod over greens are all recommended. Wendy the bartender is truly special and adds much to the home away from home atmosphere. My only issue is having to eat very early if I want MY special booth in the bar.

I can’t say enough about Pepino’s, they are amazing. The beef sandwiches and combos on garlic bread, sweet peppers and cheese, sweet potato fries, couldn’t make us happier for dinner. The sandwich is so large (and yummy) we can only eat half and then you get an amazing lunch the next day. The pizza is really good as well, but the beef is the star in our books. You can dine in or carry out. You can even order ahead, it’s all good. Make sure you get there, you won’t regret it. FYI they are closed on Mondays.Enjoy!

Gamba Ristorante

I greatly enjoyed a recent business dinner at Gambas, not only because of the quality of the food, but the fact that I was able to get a few things not found often in area restaurants. Best bites of the evening were the crispy octopus. I was a little worried that this would turn out to be deep fried as in a typical Indiana place, but pleasantly surprised to find they were charcoal grilled. It was perfectly prepared with a lightly charred crust served as part of a salad. So wonderful to find octopus so far from the ocean. While not as rare, the main dish of duck was excellent. It well cooked with a nice sauce on the side. Not too heavy, but still substantial. Service was extremely high quality. We felt very well taken care of. Definitely recommend this place.

If you leave this restaurant hungry, it's your fault. Our waitress was Jules who was fantastic! One person ordered the eggplant parmesan while I ordered the shrimp and shells. Both dishes came out hot, fresh and huge. Plenty to share!! I tried the Blueberry Martini which was delicious and sweet, after which I tried another drink that had rum in it and was beachy-I cannot remember the drink name. Our complimentary bread and butter was warm and never empty. Our table was kept clean, empty dishes and glasses were removed promptly. We sat in the bar area, but the big seating room was very whimsical with the different lights and artwork. One area they need to advertise more is their outdoor seating. I know that I look for that in a restaurant because I like to sit outside. The only issue is that this restaurant does not do separate checks which is inconvenient. The day after and I'm still full!

Very tasty Italian food served in either small or large plates. The small plates can easily feed two while the large can feed four! Dinners come with bread, salad and baked ziti. We had shrimp and spinach Alfredo, crispy pork shoulder, penne and sausage al la vodka and sausage and peppers. All were excellent and more than enough to feed eight adults. Would definitely go back.

Decent beer selection, wide variety of sandwiches, appetizers, and salads, and premium specialty pizzas cooked to perfection....one word- YUM. If you are a pesto and veggie lover, they have a pizza called Magic Potion that's amazing. It traditionally comes with sausage, but my mom doesn't eat meat, so she orders the pizza without the sausage every time we go. It is so dang good....great. Now I'm hungry. Hahaha, well at least I know what I am doing for dinner tonight!
