Doolin (Irish: Dúlainn) is a coastal village in County Clare, Ireland, on the Atlantic coast. It borders the spa town of Lisdoonvarna. It is a noted centre of traditional Irish music, which is played nightly in its pubs, making it a popular tourist destination. There are numerous nearby archaeological sites, many dating to the Iron Age and earlier. Doonagore Castle and Ballinalacken Castle are also in the area. The area was officially classified as part of the West Clare Gaeltacht (an Irish-speaking community) until 1956, and, due to trade with the Aran Islands, maintained a strong connection to it until the 1990s.

We were fortunate to spend part of our vacation at the Gentian Cottage, a private house associated with the same family that runs the hotel and restaurant. Ann, the owner, gave us a private tour of the castle and explained its history. Visiting and exploring this authentic castle was the highlight of my trip. If you have the opportunity to stay at this hotel or the Gentian Cottage, don't pass up the chance to visit the Ballinalacken Castle. While my review is based on the castle experience, we did walk through the hotel and it looks like a great (and unique) place to stay and have dinner. The family owners are great and will make you feel right at home. I look forward to a return visit!

Great music service was crowded. It turned out better than Gus O'Connors, which surprised me. Food was good the beer was reasonable as was wine. Will recommend everyone.

McGann's which has a higher rating than McDermott's was closed, so we went to McDermott's. We are glad we did! It was great! The atmosphere is pure Irish, the food was excellent, the beer cold and the staff friendly. I had the duck, which was maybe the best meal I've had in Ireland, and my wife had the prawns, which she also thought was outstanding. We sipped on a few beers until the entertainment started at 9:00. They were good as well and capped off a terrific evening.A very good spot!

I tried the fruit cake , and bought 2 marmelades.The owner is very nice and helpful, they offer bicycle rent as well for 15â¬Eh Nisrinette.... sorry but this is the doolin cafe.... i think you may have review by mistake....

The beer is obviously good and the food is pretty good but the fun starts once the music gets going. Great Trad and a fun time to be had here. The Beef Stew is very good by the fish cake was just OK.

Four of us ate here on Saturday 24th August for lunch we were greeted by the bar lady who gave us menus and explained about the specials she was lovely very friendly and helpful a younger girl came to take our order and was very pleasant too. The food was delicious very fresh hot and tasty very reasonably priced too. It was very busy but had no problem making us fabulous baileys coffees after we ate. We went up to the counter to pay and chatted the bar lady again who told us all about the charity biker festival that was on for cancer and about the September festival and local sites. She seemed busy they both did but still took time to chat. Very welcoming place very clean and great food. 10 out of 10 in all areas especially staff. We will be back sometime to check out all the sites of Clare.Hi Tigue35,thanks for taking the time to leave us the lovely review. The owner, who also runs the shop in town, with full disclosure, sent us here when we inquired about a place in Ballyvaughan to eat. It was delightful, delicious and satisfying. A good value as well.
