We discovered this Italian restaurant steps away from our hotel (close to the train station). When our server asked if we wanted an English or French menu I said English for my husband but French for me as I wanted to practice. The server made a point of telling me how wonderful it was that I wanted to use my French. Nice! We were treated with complimentary appies with our drinks: little pesto toasts with tuna paté and diced tomato on top. Delicious. My husband had the linguini gorgonzola with Chorizo (the daily special) and I had the salmon lasagna. Wonderful!! It was served with a fresh salad of greens and lox, and a light dressing with a hint of anchovies and lemon. We shared the feature dessert: tiramisu with caramel. Heavenly.

After a couple of nights at BDS I thought I would try something different and being from the U.K. this sounded like the ideal choice.Although the staff weren’t rude they were not as friendly as I was expecting from the reviews and they weren’t exactly busy. I had to catch their eye to get a drink, even sat at the bar, while they were chatting to each other. I guess they have their young regulars who they like to look after. I watched one barman make a cocktail which would have made professionals cringe! It took some persuading to get the barman to agree to let me run up a tab to pay at the end as I was eating - at the bar. He informed me that I must stay where I was and he would allow it this time. There is not an extensive menu but I will say the burgers are very nice. This bar is obviously aimed at the younger clientele and that is great but just be aware of this before visiting.

Been for both lunch and dinner - the different menus don't disappoint, lunch was fresh and superbly presented, and great value for money! - sardines, then John Dory with an excellent potato puree and citrus oil, followed by "melt in the mouth" brownies. Yummy. Dinner was just divine: the best tuna tartar I have ever had, followed by beef with carrots served in three ways, and banoffee pie to finish – beautiful. The service is friendly (English spoken), atmosphere zen - bravo to their contemporary take on French cuisine. Will definitely return.
