Gieten is a quiet town, with only a few shops of interest, but the area is a great one for cycling or walking. It is in one of the oldest settled areas of the Netherlands, and at some places you can really feel that. Keep an eye out for the small old farms, often still thatched.

Visited the restaurant on a sunday evening for a 3-course dinner. The restaurant is located in the center of Exloo and has a modern sleek interior. The staff was friendly but did not know all menu options from the top of their heead. The food was served at a pleasant pace and we had a nice dinner with good quality food.

Op doorreis hier gestopt en we waren verrast door de kwaliteit van de maaltijd.We hadden de Drentse biefstuk en die was heerlijk. Ook de mosterdsoep was erg lekker .De bediening is vriendelijk en behulpzaam.Een aanrader!

Had the pleasure of attending a reception/cocktail party at Bussemakerâs. They could easily handle a group of 100+ participants in their bigger meeting room with bar. Also enough private and streetside parking to accomodate the associated traffic. Coffee cakes drinks and snacks all good.

Eind juni 2018 hier een tussenstop gemaakt om wat te eten en dat is prima bevallen. Het eten was prima en de bediening was vlot echter wel enigszins kort af soms, maar dat moge de pret niet drukken.

This restaurant is north of Odoorn in the State Forest of Exloo very close to a lookout tower. It offers a limited menu of simple dishes for lunch and dinner. But what they serve is good quality and well presented. I ordered an omelette (with ham and mushrooms) that was delicious. Service is efficient and friendly.The location is ideal for a rest and refreshments after one of the walks of various length in the State Forest that start there.During the holiday season there is entertainment on the meadow in front of the restaurant where they built a sort of open air theatre,

Visited for lunch. Staff were very welcoming and whilst one of our group is fluent in Dutch, their English is excellent and they provided menus in English.The restaurant is nice and clean and modern. There is also an outside area that is well protected by a glass wall. We had three tasty burgers, club sandwich and a three egg dish, plus coffees for all for 80E. The food was excellent and we were pleased with the value for money. I would also recommend reviewing the artwork that is downstairs near the toilets. We had the 6 course menu. With every course we were wondering, can it get better??? And yes, it can. Absolutely stunning food, a very modern take on haute cuisine using local ingredients. The food was light and interesting using different techniques The accompanying wine just ultimate the experience. The staff was polite and very professional. To meet the chef made this visit even more special. I will most certainly come back.
