A Pocket Full of Spices

We used to frequent this Curryhouse quite often until about a year ago when we thought the food had lost its appeal somewhat. Maybe a change in chef or ingredients perhaps? We were in town last night and decided on the spur of the moment to give it another try, To our joy it was even better than it ever was! Food very tasty, service friendly and efficient, in short a treat!

This Indian style restaurant is quite local and easy to get to for us. It is hidden in the middle of a fairly large housing development and probably needs more promotion. It never seems to be busy but based on our experience, it should be. We've been in two or three times and enjoyed great meals, imaginative menus and very good service. Thanks Jim..we are very thankful for your kind words and support....

La Tandoor

Reviewed By WanderingWabbits

To try another Indian restaurant in Rangiora, having already thoroughly enjoyed A POCKET FULL OF SPICES...is risking disappointment. But Da WanderingWabbits took the chance, to satisfy our curiosity... LA TANDOOR INDIAN RESTAURANT at 75 Victoria St., Rangiora (behind Subway) is pleasantly decorated and has probably 20 tables: only two others were occupied on the Thursday evening we dined there. The Bollywood music was a bit overpowering in such an empty space, but soon settled down (unlike the loud English woman sharing her political opinions with seemingly all three tables!). Service was prompt and friendly. But Mrs.Wabbit's meat samosa entree ($6) was stock-standard. Mr.Wabbit's "Chicken 65" - fried chicken pieces cooked with yoghurt, curry leaves and mustard seeds - ($15) had an unpleasant burnt taste, which was saved (or at least disguised) by a riata. However the bar was raised by two very nice mains: Kathi Chicken with onion gravy, cashew nuts and coriander ($20), and a sweet creamy Mango Chicken ($19.50). Overall, LA TANDOOR's staff were friendly and obliging. Entrees were below-par; mains rated well, prices were reasonable. Curiosity now sated...votes are in...drum roll please!Da WanderingWabbits still rank A POCKET FULL OF SPICES (just around the corner) the best Indian restaurant in Rangiora.
