Where to Eat in Yuma: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 15, 2018 Kandra Bartel

Once a busy river port sending military supplies shipped from California to forts and camps in the Southwest to fight the Apache wars, today Yuma is a winter retreat for thousands of visitors craving its warm, dry and sunny climate. With warm weather comes golf, and the city has several excellent courses. Bird watchers will enjoy the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, which is rich in migratory bird life and also offers hiking, fishing and boating facilities. For a step back in time to the days of frontier justice, visit the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, whose prison dates back to 1876, or the Yuma Crossing State Historic Park, for a walk through restored historic buildings. If these sites whet your appetite for more pioneer lore, check out the Century House Museum, which is chock full of pioneer artifacts and exhibits. And, speaking of appetite, be sure to stop for burgers and fries at Lutes Casino, Arizona's oldest pool hall, where old movie memorabilia graces the walls.

In n Out is spectacularly consistent no matter which one you go in. This is no exception. it is spotless and they know what they are doing. I always have a cheeseburger with fries and on occasion I have a shake. The prices are a bargain and the portions huge. As I don't have this chain in Canada I keep my eyes open during my travels for their locations. Dine here!

My first big shock was to learn that Yuma has such an excellent restaurant. I ordered (again) the blackened Salmon and it was spiced absolutely perfectly.

The service here is wonderful and the food is outstanding.

We used to drive to California through Blythe until we discovered this gem. Now we spent the night in Yuma just to eat here.

The intersting thing that we had been to San Francisco and San Diego right before this, but this restaurant had the best fish meal of our entire trip.

Olive Garden

This large Mall has been here for a few years as you can read by others that wrote about places to eat. Just type in Yuma and it will bring up all reviews including the mention of the Olive Garden. I was very impressed with the food, service (Juan our waiter) and a good wine (Moscato). Thank you.

Reviewed By SugarloafView - Abergavenny, United Kingdom

Couldn't fault the service, food and wine. My observation as Brits that usually visit the US once a year is that the Olive Garden chain has dumbed down over the decades and is no longer an Italian Restaurant and now just a good pasta place. My wife has to avoid dairy and the Olive Garden menu is now all cheese and cream. The meat balls and pasta (which she found delicious) was the I think the only non-diary option on the menu. All the appetizers contained dairy. I had the slow cooked beef Bolognese with Alfredo sauce (butter and two cheeses) which was delicious. Sadly I think this will be our last visit to an Olive Garden unless they try to cater for allergies.

Prison Hill Brewing Company

Reviewed By ssparlin - Grants Pass, Oregon

Stopped here for dinner before our show at the theater. The interior is narrow and long and was pretty full so opted to sit outside. Tables were pretty dirty due to high winds and blowing dust. The area did seem to be sheltered from the worst of the wind. Beer selections were numerous and the names were very entertaining. It was Happy Hour so their local tap is $1 off. I ordered the "Jailbait Blonde". It was 4% ABV, 19 IBU and was $5 for a 16 oz. I thought the taste was pretty good. I ordered "Fish & Chips" which was described beer battered tilapia fillets, deep fried and served with Sidewinder Fries and homemade spicy coleslaw. It was listed as A brewhouse classic. Cost was $9.75. It came with 2 large pieces of fish. I thought it was coated with some type of cereal, like corn flakes but was told that it was dipped twice in batter and that is what gave it that look. The fish was good but not outstanding. Was cooked OK but not totally flakey and light. Otherwise, all was good.

Lute's is one of those places that you have to go to when you are in Yuma. It is in the old downtown and is in a historically significant building. The interior is retro everything with a huge amount of memorabilia on the walls. The menu is pretty extensive but don't expect much in the way of a "healthy menu". Folks don't come here for tofu. Tri-Tip anything here is the best bet. It is a little expensive but not too bad.

We met a relative here for lunch, enroute to CA. The restaurant was easy to find, just off I-8. But be prepared . . . the chain is so popular (and rightfully so!), it was VERY busy on a Friday noon. If you are a regular of Cracker Barrel, you are familiar with the menu and prices. Even though the restaurant was crowded, we were served promptly and efficiently . . . it is a noisy place, however, when it's that busy!

The enchiladas were obviously homemade - chewy and delicious corn tortillas, flavorful fresh perfectly-cooked chicken and sauces, refried beans & rice and guacamole salad, all of course excellent...this may be the best Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at...my daughter loved the cheese enchiladas and keeps asking me if I wrote this review yet. The staff are nice, the setting simple, warm and welcoming, service excellent and you can't beat the prices.
