January 21, 2018 Alice Mieles

Westende is a town in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of West-Flanders. It lies on the Belgian coast, also called Flemish coast. It used to be the far west (West-ende: Dutch for west-end) of the island Testerep which lay along the Belgian coast.

Like every year we wanted to go and eat in 't Marmietje when on holiday in Nieuwpoort.
We came here on a sunday in the summer vacation around 6pm.
Normally I would make Reservations because it is always packed but this time we just arrived in Nieuwpoort and thought to just go and see if there was a free spot.
We were very lucky to have the last table free for us and our order was taken quickly.
I had the "Roggevleugel" with fries and it was very good and a big portion.
The waiters were young but very eager to please and friendly aswell.
Like every year I had a great time here and am looking forward to next summer.

Bistro du Port

Reviewed By NathalieandJean - Brussels, Belgium

A busy Sunday of a very busy sunny long weekend in August, when everything at the coast is crowded ... and yet, Bistro du Port was a very pleasant experience for dinner. The food is good, nicely presented. But the true differentiator was the team - despite the heavy workload, at the end of the evening, the service was attentive, the staff was efficient, friendly, cooperative towards each other. (We had dinner in another restaurant in town the night before, where the service was chaotic, the waiters clearly didn't like each other ...). What a difference it makes when people enjoy what they do ! Just for that reason of the smiles and the positive spirit, we warmly recommend the Bistro du Port.

De Roos

"De Roos" has existed for nearly a hundred years now. During the first World War it was a cafe where the customers could enjoy some shrimps or kippers at the bar.Since June 13th 2008 we have been running "De Roos", a cosy family restaurant where quality and fresh products are essential. Our meals are prepared with a sharp eye for detail.After having gained a lot of experience and professional know-how in "De Bergscheure" in Zevekote, we are looking forward to giving you a hearty welcome in "De Roos"!Natacha Vandamme and Steve D'hoedt

The restaurant was packed, (always a good sign), and it looked very inviting from the street.The atmosphere inside was calm with a happy, friendly vibe.
One of the joint owners greeted us at the door. She was super friendly, laughing with all the customers, and very attentive.
The food was wonderful. Recommend the fish soup, cod and the eel in curry sauce.
The other owner heads up the kitchen and he personally came out to talk to customers, checking that they were happy. They took a genuine interest in ensuring everyone was enjoying their experience.
This must be the best restaurant in Nieuwpoort ! Great food & super service.

I had the suggestion of the day for lunch, which was a typical dish (vispannetje), albeit with french fries for I guess the tourists. Before there were some olives as well as pumkin soup and bread. The soup was ok, but lacked flavour. The same can be said for the main course, in which the little shrimp were not freshly peeled, and the whole was rather watery. The service was attentive and friendly, and the setting is nice. Plus point is that it was open, even in November. A negative point for small eaters is that you cannot order just a starter.

Food was very good and tasty. Service nice and friendly however details that really doesn't cost a dime were not taken into account. Such things as cigarette bats in the flower pots that were clearly visible and some trash laying on the floor in Terrace are not really acceptable. Although food was great my appetite went down just by looking at my chipped plate with dirty stain on it. Such so called details are the first thing people see and it could have been easily taken care of with very little effort that makes big difference at the end.

A very busy restaurant known for it's tapas. I wouldn't advise to order "a la carte" and not the fixed menu. (better food!). Waiters are too busy and sometimes (often!) forget the drinks you ordered. Kitchen was slow as well. I think they can't handle a "full house" well. The food was great however!

but parking is also available nearby;
we appreciate the very friendly reception and the attentive service of Heidi and Christine;
they always take into account special requirements,
but even the low-salt fish dishes were very tasteful, thanks to an excellent seasoning mix,
this reveals a high professional skill of the chief cook Patrick, giving always such artful presentations, with creativity and excellent variations;
the appropriate wines and champagne, were chosen by the sommelier Gino from the Vinotheek, giving a finishing touch to a fantastic meal in a relax atmosphere;

Brasserie Nieuwpoort

Reviewed By Ken S - Rugby, United Kingdom

Although we often visit Nieuwpoort, this was our first meal at the Brasserie Nieuwpoort and it was pretty good.
The menu is actually a book: hard covers and dozens of pages not only detailing the food and drink available, but also lots of photos and articles. There is plenty of choice, especially when it comes to the drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) – there are, for example, some 20 types of gin on offer! Sadly, there are no English versions of the ‘menu book’, but the staff all speak excellent English and are more than happy to translate. We had no problems finding three courses to suit our tastes.
The staff were all extremely friendly, courteous and most helpful.
The food was good, but there was one problem: the main courses were served on cold plates. This was not a major problem for me as I had steak with a pepper sauce and the sauce kept the food warm. My wife, however, had lamb cutlets and they and the accompanying vegetables soon went cold – so much so that she had to return her meal to get it reheated (which was done promptly and without question).
Our meal was not cheap (some 130 Euros) and for that sort of money I expect hot plates!

Covered outdoor Seating area looks nice but was too chilly the evening we visited. We were made very welcome and dined in a cavernous restaurant that soon filled up with locals. Starter of antipasti misto was delicious, pizzas were enormous and yummy and you can take away anything not consumed. Montepulciano slipped down a treat, ice cream for pudding was delicious and the coffee and limincello topped it all off. We really enjoyed dinner. Price was reasonable and service was attentive, fun and welcoming.

This is the ideal place for an ice-cream to take away.
There are various and surprising tastes (limoncello, cuberdon, …), the quality of the ice-cream is excellent and the prices are still low in comparison with the quantity received.
The main issue was ... not going there too often.
