Where to Eat in Tsumeb: The Best Restaurants and Bars

March 14, 2018 Florencio Paulino

Tsumeb (Otjiherero name: Okavisume) is a city of 15,000 inhabitants and the largest town in Oshikoto region in northern Namibia. Tsumeb is the "gateway to the north" of Namibia. It is the closest town to the Etosha National Park. Tsumeb used to be the regional capital of Oshikoto until 2008 when Omuthiya was proclaimed a town and the new capital. The area around Tsumeb forms its own electoral constituency and has a population of 44,113. The town is the site of a deep mine (the lower workings now closed), that in its heyday was known simply as "The Tsumeb Mine" but has since been renamed the Ongopolo Mine.

Spent a week there and had breakfast and dinner daily. Staff friendly. Had pizza on 2 nights, and enjoyed them. One thing I can say, the portions are big. Well stuffed after a meal.

A typical menu and more! Food is homemade, service is pretty good and fast (if not in a big group). We were in a big group; the restaurant took our orders in advance and everything came out hot and fast. Group said meat dishes were good, homemade lasagna good, hake fillet good. I had the feta stuffed calamari, tender (but too salty for my palate). Namibian colleagues liked the pizza. We ate lunch & dinner and were pleased each time. There are cakes from Windhoek: carrot and nut/chocolate are excellent and N$25/slice.

We had dinner and breakfast at this restaurant which was in my opinion the best in Etosha. The venison ( springbok and oryx ) was really amazing and tasty. The breakfast is the ordinary breakfast you find at any resort and it was more than adequate. The staff at this camp and restaurant was also the friendliest we encountered during our trip of Etosha.
