Grill-A-Burger

At GRILL-A-BURGER, Palm Desert, we have a passion for hamburgers. We make our trendsetting burgers the old-fashioned way using only the finest and freshest ingredients available. Our hand crafted, grilled-to-order, moist and juicy patties are made daily from fresh (never frozen) 100% all-natural USDA Inspected Choice Beef, free of artificial hormones, antibiotics, and other things that don't belong in hamburgers. And we have nice buns, too! They are freshly baked daily at a local bakery. Buns are slightly toasted and garnished with garden crisp lettuce, hand-sliced red onion, vine-ripened tomato and sliced kosher pickles. Our homemade French fries are never frozen and are only made with fresh Idaho Russet potatoes that are hand cut, double-fried and lightly salted without any processing steps in between. And we change our zero trans fat oil every day! Clean oil = crisp, great-tasting fries! Our authentic soda fountain milkshakes and malts are hand-dipped, hand spun and made with premium vanilla bean ice cream, whole milk and natural flavorings. All served in a place that considers our environment by using food packaging that is all natural and made from annually renewable resources by buying from as many local vendors as possible and, of course, by using energy efficient equipment and recycling. We went to Grill-a-burger for lunch. The menus are updated and the service remains attentive. I had grilled avocado slices and a great blue cheese burger and my wife had a gluten free burger (including gluten free bun) and fries. The burgers are well prepared. The food was fresh and tasty. Cost was modest for great burgers. We will be back.

My husband and I had an early reservation through Open Table because they were booked. We both had the frog legs appetizer. Delicious. I think our server was Ivan. He was very good. We had excellent Manhattans. We both ordered the filet of sole stuffed with lobster. The portions were huge. One of the best soles we have had. The place filled up around 6 p.m. I ordered the gelato in two flavors. What a treat. We are definitely going back.

We decided on burgers and fries and were amazed. I have never seen so many choices for both burgers and fries~~~ I ordered the The Love Hater. (A Garlic Delight)
Served with extra Roasted Garlic, Grilled Onions, Roasted Red Pepper, and Boursin Cheese. Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles Chips, and Garlic Aioli on a Sourdough Bun.
with sweet potato fries and it was melt in the mouth delicious, my husband had the The Godfather. (Sourdough Italian)
Served with Crispy Bacon, fresh Avocado, and Mozzarella Cheese. Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles Chips, Pesto and Basil Mayo on a Sourdough Bun. and the 50/50
Half order of fresh Homemade Fries and half order of signature Beer Batter Onion Rings. It was a lot of eating but enjoyed every bite. A little on the pricey side but the quality and quantity is worth it. We'll be back!!!

Brandini Toffee

Brandini Toffee is a manufacturer of gourmet almond toffee sold online and through our retail stores in Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs and Cabazon, CA. I was invited to a 10:30 tour of Brandini Toffee. Paul, a fantastic guide who knows the background of the company, leads tours Monday - Friday. I didn't expect to be amazed at the story of its founding, and the absolutely fantastic products used to make everything, and the quality standards throughout the business. Brandon Weimer first started making toffee at 12 years old. Then, he and Leah Post needed to raise money for a trip to Italy in their sophomore year of high school, and they were astounded at how fast their delicious toffee sold, and that they raised more than they needed to pay their share of their trip (their parents paid for half and they had to pay for the other half). Not the usual story of the beginning of a business--right?

Today their clients include Ralphs Grocery Stores, Costco, Whole Foods, their outlets, on-line, and stores worldwide. The cleanliness of the manufacturing facility shows quality perfection standards. The products used in producing the products are top quality. There is real butter--no oil substitues--, yummy chocolate, and wonderful popcorn with several types of toffee and other things added so that there are several popcorn varieties. The popcorn is made in a machine, but basically, this is a hands-on operation and definitely there are no robots...just hardworking employees. Join the well known stars like Oprah and Martha Stewart who have the products on their "A" lists. You can join the "frequent shopper" list to get points, and rewards.

Once you try the products, you will never want to stop enjoying them, and sharing them with family, friends and clients. I usually have a lot of willpower, BUT, not with the Brandini Toffee products. This is an A+ company that is run with high standards, creativity and love to produce the best toffee products available in the world.

The business and store are in Rancho Mirage, and are in the shopping center across from The River on Bob Hope. Lots of free parking, and 10% off after the tour. This is an award winning company. After our tour, Brandon came to meet us--very unique and wonderful to have the boss come to meet the tourists.

Filthy! Filthy! Filthy! – Never Again!

We haven’t been to “America’s Favorite Diner” for awhile and we certainly won’t be going back to the Varner Rd., Thousand Palms, CA location again. At first glance all looked normal. Then we sat down and begin to look around and you start to notice just how bad the state of cleanliness is in this location.

Looking under the table in the booth you could tell the floors hadn’t been cleaned in a VERY LONG time. Caked on sludge, napkins, old stale and moldy food was the norm. The floors in the carpeted areas were filthy and you knew they too hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time too. The floor had numerous things such as used napkins, old food, straws, and the carpet so soiled that you knew it could never be brought back to a respectable level.

When I asked the young man that was working the reception cash for a business card of the location he asked me why and I told him the level of cleanliness at this location was unacceptable and that I wanted to let their corporate offices know it. He said, “we certainly are open for criticism” and gave me their business card. It's not that I want to criticize - it's that obvious filth is a generally a pretty good indicator that there are more serious problems that aren't readily apparent. What should have taken place is he should have sent over the manager to investigate our concern so that I could express our concerns face-to-face but he didn’t seem to think the problem was all that important.

We ordered but more and more we really were having problems with staying and then the meal arrived so we felt obligated to eat. I will say the clubhouses we had tasted fine and the food was fresh. So from that point of view things were fine but I just kept thinking about the state of cleanliness in the kitchen. What dirt and shortcuts were being taken there? Food poisoning kept coming to mind. How could it not when the customer dining area was in such a bad state of cleanliness.

The restaurant also has a legal case just waiting to happen. By this I mean, there is a transition strip that goes from the tiled area in reception to one of the dining areas that has warped and stretched. It’s just a matter of time where a lady catches a heel or a senior, or anybody for that matter, catches a toe and goes down and breaks a leg or hip… What’s going on here? Poor. The manager of this location should be relieved of his/her duties and put someone in there that truly wants to do a good job.

We were traveling through after Christmas and saw this Del Taco. Sometimes when we're on the road I get hungry for some greens. I ordered their taco salad. It was delicious. The greens were crunchy and even the avocados fresh.

The staff was super friendly and the place clean. There was a little goof with getting my order together. The salad was done but the other part of it not seen so there was a little longer wait than expected but all was good.

We would definitely return.

Armed with a 20%-off coupon my wife and I stormed the gates of Goody's! Well, not quite, but we were pretty hungry, anyway. I guess not quite hungry enough. I was hankerin' for some pastrami, and they sure have it here. I opted for the regular sandwich instead of the fancy kind with tomatoes and all that other stuff that doesn't really belong on a proper pastrami sandwich anyway. It came on a white roll which was quite large, and a heaping pile of fries. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

My wife ordered up the fish and chips. For $9.99 you get a lot - three fish pieces, and lots of fries. Before that came a big salad, of which she offered half to me. It was pretty good.

She wound up eating one and a half fish tenders and a bunch of fries; I ate half of the sandwich and maybe half of my fries. We were stuffed and asked for boxes to take the leftovers home. We warmed up those the next day and I STILL couldn't finish off the fries!

If you want a HUMONGOUS amount of food at a good price (it came to $5.00 per person for two meals) just come here! Goody-goody for Goody's!
