Where to Eat in Tabor: The Best Restaurants and Bars

December 23, 2017 Darleen Reid

Tábor is one of the Czech Republic’s favorite tourist spots and the largest town in South Bohemia. If you visit, be sure to see the Gothic Town Hall, the underground of the town, the remnants of the fortification, the Gothic Church of the Metamorphosis of Our Lord on the Mount Tabor, Renaissance houses, Kotnov Castle and Museum of the Hussite Movement.

I had high expectations of the restaurant. The soup was excellent as was the dessert. My main course was, however, disappointing. The duck dish was only ok and no better than elsewhere where it would have been half the price. The others were luckier with the pheasant. It wasn't the best meal I had in the Czech Republic but it was the most expensive. Overall it is overrated.

Overlooking Tabors main square this nice Czech restaurant serves up heart fare. To start I ordered the garlic soup which was very flavourable and tasty. For the main course I had the grilled chicken which was perfectly done- moist and tender. Hard to go wrong st a place like this.

It was cold spring morning and we were looking forward to opening of this cafe. It was seductive from the outside and even more from inside. You could feel being ether in Florence or in Ravenna surrounded by pictures of italian campanillas and real bells. We tasted both coffee and desserts. The cake called Princess matched perfectly with the other called Royal, all sweet goodies are made in the Campanilla and improve the quality of Life - believe or not.

recently i tried here traditional czech "svíčková" and baked carp, both of them perfectly edible, I recommend especially the carp, where the taste of fish was completely free of the slight smell of mud, quite common for this kind of fish.
the culinary experience was supported by the location of the restaurant, resp. its beergarden, with nice view on (not only) middle-age houses on the Tabor main square.

Normally I would give a 5* review but the service didn't seem to care too much during lunch bufet. But over all the food was very tasty, the bufet rather small but ok. I'd probably return back. The price is awesome.

We have eaten at hundreds of these type of restaurants in the last few years. This ranks with the best of them. The positives: clean property, friendly and accommodating staff who speak a little English, great variety in the menu, great tasting food(I had the hamburger and my wife had the Salmon), good service, fair prices, indoor and outdoor Seating though you'll choke from the cigarette smoke of the people sitting outdoors. Eat inside to avoid the cigarette smoke and get quicker service.

This was our second visit and nothing has changed. We visited only for a coffee and an ice cream. Coffee was fine, the girls enjoyed their ice cream and my husband his muesli bar but my ice cream never came. Similar happened when we visited last year, that time they brought our drinks completely separately and we had to ask for the cake again. This time the ice cream never came and despite they apologized it obviously made no difference to the fact. The place was not even busy, I overheard one of the waitresses saying it was a slow day. One wonders how they cope when it's busy.

We stayed in the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant. A choice of the outside Terrace the inside bar or the separate restaurant all are very pleasant. The inside with the original vaulted ceilings are very atmospheric and give the atmosphere of the place. The food is not nouveau cuisine it is very good freshly cooked food for big appetites. The Goulash soup was fabulous and that alone could have made a meal, followed by the mixed grill which had a full chicken breast large pork fillet, steak and trimmings enough for 3 people. Our little dog ate well! Very good value for very good food. It is just off the main square so prices are much lower but it is worth seeking out

The entrance to this pub/restaurant is not very prepossessing to say the least, but open the door and go inside and you see groups of locals drinking beer and eating, busy and smiling waiters, old style traditional "decor" and a view over the valley from the Terrace to die for.
The menu has English translations of the very typical Czech cuisine and this made it so much easier to choose! We decided to share the "300 gr baked ham in black beer with baked goods" and a Greek salad.
The pork was hot, unbelievably tender and served with fresh horseradish, mustard and a variety of baked peppers and carrots. Delicious! The salad was tasty, refreshing and incredibly generous. Went very well with the pork dish. With two beers to go with the food our appetites were more than satisfied! The bill was very, very reasonable - much cheaper than the main drag just a couple of hundred metres away. Friendly service.
The locale was full of locals (mostly of a certain age) drinking beer, smoking, watching ice hockey on TV and engaging in conversation. As a traveller, it was fascinating to observe ordinary people enjoying their free time
We felt that we had had a truly authentic taste of Czech life.

La Cave

Reviewed By Marilyn G - SF Bay Area

We were in Tabor because it is our town's sister city, so we went to visit on our way from Prague to Vienna. One of the locals showed us around and recommended La Cave in the Hotel Dvorak for dinner. He said it was "haute cuisine", and when we received our first course, we realized his description was correct! The chef creates Czech dishes with a flair. We had duck and venison first courses and lamb and veal main courses. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The wine service was very professional; the sommelier decanted our wine and even coated our glasses with the wine. Our total bill was about $70 US; the wine was half of the bill.
Don't be put off by the entrance to the restaurant. You go down a flight of industrial type stairs in the conference area of the hotel. If we had not had the restaurant recommended to us, we might not have gone in. We were really glad we did.
This was a delightful surprise and was the best meal in our three-week trip. We went to Prague, Vienna, Budapest and on a Uniworld Danube cruise, so this is really a compliment, because we had some really good food on this trip, including at a one-star Michelin rated restaurant in Budapest. La Cave was better.
