Paulines's consistently delivers an excellent meal with very attentive service. The french onion soup is always a great start. Shelburne Farms chicken is our entree of choice. This tender chicken breast in a robust cheese sauce is a standout. Desserts are excellent as well.

August First

August First Bakery and Cafe is locally owned and has been serving great pastries, coffee, breakfast and lunch since 2009. A true local favorite, located in a bright and open renovated industrial garage. A very Vermont experience with fresh and delicious food served by a friendly staff. Everything is made from scratch! Croissants, scones, muffins, Koiugn Amann, healthy soups and salads.

This is the sort of casual, granola-y bakery cafe that you find in Burlington, Portland (Maine), Portland (Oregon), and Seattle. It is inexpensive (plates range from 9 to 12 dollars), and the sandwiched and salads freshly made. They use bread made on the premises. There is a no laptop policy--they want their customers to talk with one another--and service will be efficient if not necessarily friendly. (Slice a loaf of bread for you? "We're busy right now.") But the food is quite good and the ambience says "Vermont." Eat here.

Tiny Thai Restaurant

Reviewed By MattyFitzAK - Florida

I've eaten a lot of Thai food over the years. I've had Thai in cities like NYC and Philadelphia, to say nothing of Chiang Mai and Bangkok. So imagine my surprise when this unassuming little BYOB in Winooski manages to serve up some of the better stateside Thai I've ever had? I was shocked and delighted.

The curries were very good and the rotating specials on several occasions took me right back to the food stalls of Khao San Road (well, at least the more authentic Thai restaurants near that backpacker hangout). The Thai-language back page menu, unforgivingly untranslated and unmodifiable for Western palettes, offers a chance at some really great flavors. And the genuine Thai soups, noodle dishes, and other mains all offer something flavorful and unexpected.

Ignore reviews lamenting mediocre pad thai. Get outta here with that. Go back to PF Changs. Here's where you can find some new and halfway authentic Thai dishes, with hard-to-pronounce names and flavors that might just surprise you.

Ben & Jerry's

For all the euphoric flavors you can't get enough of – especially the ones you can't get in ordinary stores – nobody scoops Ben & Jerry's better than we do at our scoop shops.

When in Vermont, one must have Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream! This shop is conveniently located on Church Street. It's popular, but the line moves quickly. So many delicious options! Plenty of benches to sit on right outside, while enjoying the amazing ice cream. There is even a VW Bus inside, a perfect photo opportunity!

The Bagel Place

Over 15 varieties of bagels and a dozen cream cheeses. Hot and iced coffee from Uncommon Grounds. Breakfast sandwiches served all day long using real fresh cracked eggs. Lunch sandwiches are a cut above here, with specialties such as a Caprese with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, prosciutto and balsamic vinaigrette.

We had a delicious and very filling breakfast here to start our trip across Vermont. It was just across the street from our hotel. They have tons of bagel and cream cheese options. I had the Cinnamon Sugar Bagel with Honey Walnut cream cheese while my wife had the everything bagel with roasted artichoke cream cheese. they were both fantastic. My son had the egg and cheese sandwich and a huge chocolate chip cookie. Washed it down with a hot cup of wonderful coffee. Great breakfast joint.

This place holds a variety of great foods and they serve breakfast all day. They're all very nice but try to get there earlier than later as they fill up quite fast. The wait staff is nice and are always happy to help. They also sell local art there which is a nice touch.

We were in South Burlington for the night and found Chicken Charlie's. We were not disappointed. The bbq chicken sandwich, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, Caesar salad, and buffalo chicken salad were all delicious. Juicy tender chicken. The place smelled good when we walked in too. Very friendly staff. We would definitely come back.

Came here for breakfast one morning whilst on a self-drive holiday around New England. Thought it was wonderful, and we really set ourselves up for the rest of the day. We had a proper cooked breakfast (so many delicious choices) which was wonderful, and it was hard to resist the lovely pastries. But we bought a couple to take out with us. It was a Sunday morning and absolutely packed with students. We did have to wait for a table, but not for very long, and we were soon seated at a table. Staff very friendly, and final bill was very reasonable for a great breakfast!

Misery Loves Company

Reviewed By lobsterabbit - Singapore, Singapore

Be aware that there's barely room for the servers to move around in the dining room - you're going to be elbow distance from the next table - but it has a cozy feel overall. Cocktail options were fun, and great execution. Water service was extremely prompt. The apps were good, and the lettuce wrap was a creative mix of textures that worked very well considering the oyster and Kim chi and pork combination. Mains didn't have as much appeal as the last time we were there, so we skipped these and moved on, but will come back and see what appeals next time!
