I have just returned from another visit to Bulgaria and made many visits to this restaurant during my stay. I am glad to report that standards have not slipped and the restaurant still provides excellent food, service and entertainment. It is now summer and the dining has moved out into the garden complex of covered terraces and garden spaces. It is good to see this establishment survive when many have vanished due to the continuing monetary crisis which has hit most of Europe. It is always a good sign and a testament to the quality of a restaurant when it can ride out the bad times. Having stayed one week and witnessed the mass of returning customers visiting Riverside, I can see that it has not been recession hit.
Friday and Saturday evenings were absolutely jam packed and at time all tables were full (this is a large restaurant and this is quite astonishing in these times!!). These are the busiest times of the week as there is a live band and singers providing traditional entertainment. This is very popular with locals and visitors alike.
During dinner one evening I pondered on why this restaurant was so busy whilst others were near empty. I never really thought of this before. The fact is that when you take a good look at the quality of service, the reason is clear. All cutlery, plates and glasses are spotlessly clean. The food is freshly prepared and is consistently of good quality. Every effort is made behind the scenes to provide a great experience in both dining, ambiance and general presentation.
I witnessed the working of the swimming pool complex at the far end of the garden. The pool is an added compliment during the day and has its own bar. It is a rarity in the area and there is nothing like it nearby.
This establishment gets my thumbs up once again. It is the best I have used both in the area and beyond. Hopefully it will continue to be so!

Although all of the restaurants we have visited in Hissarya offer very good food, have very good service and prices are more than competitive, Restaurant "Natsional" is, no doubt, top notch.
Nice ambience, a bit vintage decoration, in addition to the excellent food and service, contributes to the unforgettable experience when you dine at this restaurant.
The portions are not too big, smaller than in the other restaurants in Hissarya, but the taste and the quality of food compensates it all. The food is typical Bulgarian / European, well balanced with regard to the spices and seasonings, perfectly cooked, using the best ingredients which you can feel with your palate. You definitely have to try the veal!
Service is professional, attentive and fast - dishes come in no more than 15-20 minutes.
There is a "kids corner" where children can play and draw to keep them away from running inside the restaurant - which is often hardly achievable :).
The restaurant is usually full, so if you want to visit it and enjoy the food they offer, it is mindful to book a couple of days in advance.
Highly recommended!

The wait staff brought me the wrong drink twice. It took 50 minutes for the food to come, and the restaurant gave me improper change....highly disappointing for what I thought was some of Sofia's best. At least the food tasted good.

The food is of average quality, but there is a good variety. The service is prompt and pleasant. We took a group (25) there and they were served very efficiently. We had lunch and dinner there. Mostly standard Eastern European fare. Reasonably priced.

Second time I visit the place and I was not disappointed by the food. Delicious, simple food that my grandma would prepare.
Unfortunately, this time service was bad. The waitress was having lunch when I arrive and had to go there and ask her for service. Same thing when I needed the check.
Work on that, guy!

I have eaten here a number of times and the food is always excellent. Friendly and fun staff. It has a huge range of different alcohols, an interesting cocktail menu and a diverse food menu. There are both locals and tourists here but all for good reason.
The atmosphere is extremely comfortable, cosy and modern!

The cook is from Italy. The food is amazing. The place can offer only Italian food and coffee. Every guest can take Italian bruschette for free.
