Salamandas

Reviewed By Emma_Hanczuk

My husband and I have just finished three weeks travelling around the Philippines, and can honestly say the hospitality we received from all the staff at Salamandas was the best of the entire trip!
The food is delicious and varied, we especially loved the Banana Pancakes which we had for breakfast most days. For the evenings, the Brazilian Steak comes highly recommended.
As for the staff, they are all truly beautiful inside and out.
A special thanks to Joey who we grew very fond of during our stay. Her bubbly kind personality can’t help but make you smile.
Also, a huge thank you to Roselio who treated us like Royalty every time we visited the restaurant, and even arranged a private candle lit table for us on our last evening when we were feeling tired after our busy days diving.
We miss you and hope to see you again one day.

The Danish Lagoon Luxury Beach Resort Restaurant

Charming resort with separately named cabins and pebble or concrete pathways along the Hans Christian Andersen theme. Very nice cabin hexagonal or octogonal lay-outs with air-con and comfort room, good beds and linens, all clean and well-presented, and restaurant that boasts the biggest burger in the country, which may be true, but unfortunately didn't taste all that good.

We only got to try the breakfast (around $4-5 per order of Filipino or Western). Pork tapa set includes eggs, rice, a fruit and coffee (Nescafe instant black) or tea (Lipton black). Pancakes are yummy. Fruit plate includes 1 mango, a slice of papaya and some pineapple cuts. Al fresco dining, with view of the beach. Thumbs up!

Hambilica Sea View Restaurant

Reviewed By New_YLOO - Philippines

We ate at Hambilica restaurant on our last evening at Siquijor. It was a thrilling experience, especially since they have a fire fly sanctuary within the premised (by the sea). It is a small simple restaurant, run by an Attorney from Manila (Ms. Fides - I enjoyed chatting with her - she is an absolute encyclopedia on life in Siquijor, native herbal remedies, and fauna)
But first, the food - the menu is good, they need some advance time for orders (we selected and told her our order in the evening - you can always call and tell her) as tehy use only fresh ingredients.
I had my best serving of vegetable noodles in the Philippines here - cooked just the way I like it (They ask you - and I think you can also take part in the cooking), so it is very home like.
They have both - a large indoor sitting space, and oudoors too. The fish was good too - washed down with buko (coconut) juice fresh from their garden.
After food, Fides (the owner) took us to the fire fly sanctuary - it was thrilling to hold a larva in the cup of my palm, and to see it glow on - off - on - off! Fides also told us about the Siquijour people's way of life... how fishing is so intrinsic to their nature - she is a city person who has converted her vacation home into a resort, and it is always difficult for expat tourists to meet such highly educated Filipino people during our travels.
They also gave us - complimentary! - a local dessert that they had made. Now, that was really sweet of them!
I suggest you come here during daylight, as the garden is FILLED with local flowers and herbs - ginseng, wild poinsiettas, etc - and Fides tells you their herbal health merits (for example - kumintang flowers are used for diabetes). While she showed us around, we also spotted lots of colourful insects - I usually dislike creepy crawlies, but these were so colourful that simply could not help staring at them!
There are also lots of birds - especially in the evening and morning - like Asian glossy starlings (they look like crows from afar - but on closer inspection, they are smaller and they have orangish red eyes)
I have taken lots more photos - you can see them on the Siquijor page of my travel blog - http://expattraveller.blogspot.com/
All in all - a treat for food and nature lovers!

Charisma Beach Resort And Restaurant

Reviewed By AustraliaBrett - Maroochydore, Australia

You need to know that this island is slow..... You need to know that the Beaches on this island are not for swimming. Charisma Beach resort was excellent. We chose to stay here as we wanted a bamboo hut on the beach and this is what we got :) The large hut was divided into 2 self contained rooms. There was four of us so we were lucky enough to take both rooms. Absolute beach front. Absolutely perfect. Large rooms with fan and cold water. Wifi reached the room. The amazing clincher was the verandah on both rooms. There were 2 daybeds on each veranda, so easy to relax and be amazed by the beauty. Pool did the trick as you cannot swim here (not in January anyway). Small resto on site made things so much easier. We stayed 5 nights, didn't want to leave. A simple resort, but the beachfront rooms were amazing. Bike rental next door as was a small shop. San Juan town a small ride away. The bamboo hut is what my holiday dreams are made of, thank you Jeziel and your staff for making our stay awesome. Sunset was incredible, every day. There are other resorts close by so u are NOT trapped for rest choices.

Sodam Restaurant

A 2-floored restaurant where the buffet spread is at the ground floor. At 299 pesos this is a fair deal for eat-all-you can. Buffet spread - Beef Bulgogi, Bibimbap, assorted appetizers, Tofu dishes Seaweed/Nori soup, Salads, Japchae noodles, Kimbap
Additional charges on drinks and ice cream.
Parking can be difficult (3 slots at the store front). One can park at the nearby gas station, or the road at the side of the gas station. Just tell the attending fellow that you will be dining at the Korean buffet. Expect a lot of diners and Seating a large group may take a longer time.

Baha Ba'r

The Baha Bar concept is to take traditional and well liked Filipino dishes and alter and 'spice' them up them up to suit a more adventurous and curious palate. In addition to Filipino food we have a wide selection of European staples, vegetarian dishes and have a healthy kids menu too. Our ingredients are fresh and local. We have our own organic farm where most of the vegetables are grown and we raise our own native chickens (no steroids etc). All fish is caught in the sea surrounding Siquijor. Baha Bar also has outdoor Seating in a lush garden and a sunset deck by the ocean to enjoy a drink or two at dusk as the sun goes down. San Juan is famous for its sunsets. You will not find too many of the latest 'hits' being played, the music is more Brazilian Lounge /funk with a dose of House and other chill music
