Kate, you and your husband/chef, Cedric, have restored our faith in French restaurants, we are frequent business travellers, from Australia, around the world and in particular France, your restaurant is a gem, superb food, great wine and all round an amazing experience. Your service is so professional and efficient, our food was cooked to perfection, the surroundings are comfortable and oh so French, could not fault anything. Esgargot, Terrine Sanglier, Magret de canard, Sorbet and Fromage, a bottle of 2014 Graves, all the ingredients for a perfect evening, thank you, your success is well deserved. BZ. Just a one night stay in St Omer with friends to do the usual stock up of great food and drink for Christmas. Was looking for a good restaurant with traditional french artisan cooking and found this one on TripAdvisor.
This restaurant is quite amazing. It only has about 14/16 covers and Olivier the owner/chef/maitre de does it all on his own from a very small kitchen in the back of the restaurant.
The photos say it all. The place is full of odd items decorating the walls and tables. menus arrive inside original copies of L'Illustration dating from the early 1900's. My copy was dated 21st September 1918.
The menu is very simple - 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. On the day we visited the starters were a beautiful cheese tart, ouefs cocotte or watercress soup. The mains were pork steak cooked in buttermilk, cod or pollock; all with seasonal veg. The food was wonderfully tasty and very rustic.
The wine list too is minimal but very good - typically 20 -25 Euro a bottle.
Overall the meal for 6 came to about 240 Euros.
Olivier came and chatted away to us after service (in excellent English) and we left thoroughly delighted with our evening meal and experience.
As previous writers have mentioned, do book in advance.

Close to the Cathedral, the chef offers a seasonal menu prepared using fresh seasonal products. Several menus are available from €18 to €47. We can accommodate groups of 4 to 40 people. We have independent and private spaces for your events (seminars, communions, weddings...) Near the city center you will find a parking space easily. During sunny days you can enjoy our Terrace in front of the Fountain of the Swan.

Arriving chilly & damp was warmly welcomed even though it wasn't midday. Splendid tdh dishes preceded by very welcome miniature hot soup & herb roll freebie. Three fish terrine - salmon, smoked haddock, seafood - on a good dressed lettuce salad. Good fresh crisp roll. Blanquette of veal richly creamy in its own pot - lots of meat, splendid old-fashioned recipe. The garnish was from another planet! Base of spiced squash puree, topped with (mostly one of each) turnip, Jerusalem artichoke, Brussels sprout, carrot, caramelised apple slice, spherical potato croquette, lattice crisp, a pear cooked in spiced red wine, gem lettuce (dressed) & a couple of shreds of pickle. It was so good! So interesting to play with the flavours. The mont blanc tart was wonderful - thin crisp pastry with a meringue coated in whipped cream hidden beneath lots of chestnut puree, garnished with marron glace & a physalis.. Not too sweet, a fab finish to a very ample meal for only 23 euros. Lovely room, & do enjoy the boy & swan Fountain.

This is still our favourite restaurant in the pretty town centre of Saint Omer. It has changed a few times over the years but is still under the same enthusiastic owner. The fixed-priced menus are excellent value and the restaurant also now offers many seafood offerings. Superb. Reservation advisory at weekends.

Well, what a find. Popping into Saint Omer for some shopping and some lunch, we stumbled on the Saint Charles after passing the lesser pizza and somewhat greasy other establishments. This is a good restaurant. One hundred euros gave us an excellent three course meal with wine, champagne and excellent coffee. Two months ago we stayed in Reims and dined at a two star top end restaurant which cost us over three hundred and fifty euros for the meal. Obviously a very good meal, but our meal at the Saint Charles stood up very well indeed for the price. Look out for this gem if in Saint Omer, it is certainly worth a try. My only problem was that my French seemed to be completely unknown to the most helpful waitress. I quipped "J'ai horreur de le parking". A blank face stared at me. "J'ai l'intention d'acheter quelque chose cet apres-midi". Still blank. "J'ai envie de retourner a Minster ce soir". Nothing. Just wait till I see my French teacher in October. But there you have it. The Saint Charles. A very good place to eat.

What a lovely restaurant this is and the Patron is charming and speaks English. The food is excellent. We had moules and frites and white fish done in a wok with vegetables, both delicious, followed by strawberries, cream and ice cream. All very good and reasonably priced. As we had to make a 'phone call, we were allowed a free one on the house, money refused by the Patron! The chef is very good here and deserves a large tip. The rooms upstairs are comfortable but we did not stay over this time. This is our second visit and we hope to have many more. Sitting outside on the pavement in the Sunshine sipping our pre-lunch drinks will remain a lovely memory of our holiday. Also you will be helped out if your portions are too big by the owner's Jack Russell who is lovely and loves moules!
Go there! St. Omer is a lovely town.

We expected a good informal dining experience here, & the first signs were favourable: a friendly welcome, attractive décor, a well-priced, interesting menu & a generally pleasant ambience only marred by the monotonous non-stop 'disco beat' from the music loop (why?). It's popular, & plenty of locals were there. We ordered galettes & they looked good on the plate, but oh dear! Over-salted, & impossible to enjoy as we had hoped. We mentioned this to the shaven-headed waiter, who grunted 'OK' (no, it wasn't), then to the more approachable lady at the till. Her response, I'm afraid, was only the clichéd excuse: 'different chef tonight'. Not good enough. This is not Cordon Bleu fine dining, & a creperie-style restaurant should have an established, reliable recipe for the batter which any chef can easily use. What a shame the cooking was not up to the level of the excellent ices we had for dessert. We were left with sad memories of disappointment.

We booked in advance via Trip Advisor, having carefully considered a number of venues in St. Omer. This was a quick day trip for four adults from the UK to celebrate a 40th birthday and we wanted a typical french restaurant and were not disappointed. The owner / chef Cedric was very obliging and made our meal experience easy and enjoyable, he also spoke a little English. The service was excellent and the food and wine was of a very good quality. The menu was a little limited and a couple of the main dishes were not available. If you want a particular dish it might be worth checking in advance. This emphasised the fact it is a small establishment and appeared to be a one-man band. We will definitely go there again.

Away from main place but what a lovely welcoming atmosphere when you pass through the door. Family run and with great pride. The food was delicious and well presented. It is small so booking probably needed. Parking if you are lucky on road outside. Great value.
