Maynard's in Maine

GREAT Dinner's in the woods of Maine as there are few good places in such remote areas! Thanks for putting them on the Tripadvisor Map.... we were so grateful to find this place and have a good and civilized meal!

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Scott Cabin. There is a kitchen with all the implements, dishes, pans, etc. you would need; a coffee maker; a private bathroom with a shower; a queen and twin sized bed, and some seating. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the porch early in the morning, watching deer right in front of our cabin, while sipping our coffee. Staff rings the bell for meal times. The food we had (prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes one night, and pork ribs with roasted red potatoes the next) was all delicious. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.

Whether we stop to have a drink and snack or a meal, we are not disappointed. They provide a good portion of food and have a nice selection. The owners a very kind and helpful. If you are traveling in this area you should stop in.

Service was slow, as 2 people did not show for work. Confusion from the one person covering the entire dining room. None of the 4 of us had a good meal, it was all very disappointing. The salmon I had asked for to be cooked medium rare was over done, as were all the meals. The best I can say was that the view was lovely, but don't come here for the food.

The Rockwood Bar and Grill is owned by Tom. Tom owns a construction company and knows the value of a buck. I think I have almost had everything they offer. The bourbon steak is my favorite, pepperoni pizza is another. The chicken sandwich is so big that there are two pieces of chicken. I love this place. There s also the Philly steak and cheese and the taco salad. If you are in Rockwood, Maine either visiting, passing through or snowmobiling, you need to stop there. They have a great bar. I'm not a beer drinker unless it's very cold. Where else would put ice in my beer for me and not look at me strangely?

Kelly's Landing

We were taking the scenic cruise on Moosehead Lake and Kelley's was pointed out as a great place to eat.

At the end of the cruise on the Katahdin, we drove around the lake, under the railroad bridge, to Kelly's.

We had haddock cakes and sweet potato fries. Very good.

Views of Moosehead are beautiful. Residents of the lake islands will drive their boats to tie up at Kelly's for a meal.

Dirt bumpy parking, wouldn't be great in the rain. Lots of room for RVs.
