La Biela Resto-Bar

Reviewed By Deb C - Perth, Australia

After completing Recoleta Cemetery this is a very handy & welcome respite from a hot Buenos Aires day.
The food was very good quality & the coffee the best so far in town! Ricardo our waiter was fun, friendly & efficient & very patient with " gringos with little espanol " The cafe/restaurant has been in business for 161 years so they obviously are doing a lot right. We chose the Spanish omelette which was more than adequate. Can recommend.

Tres Caracoles

Reviewed By dlfitz - Vancouver, Washington

I am recommending Tres Caracoles a good part because of its incomparable location+environment...I haven't been to such a beautiful place as this in over 20 years of visiting Resistencia. It seems to be situated in a historic colonial-style grand homestead, covering at least 2-3 lots wide and a double-deep yard. Within the walls are 2 bars, a huge patio/lounge area, the restaurant, and private living quarters. For drinks, lunch, dinner, or a snack, it's perfect! As I looked up from my seat and looked onto a high rise, Resi-style, I felt like I was in LA or NYC. As to the food, it wasn't as successful an Enterprise as the grounds were, but was of high quality and created with unique touches not found at typical Argentine restaurants. My party of 5 ordered the Hamburger (dry), Arugula Salad (it lacked sufficient Parmesan), Pork BBQ ribs (fatty), Flatbread w/ grilled veg (excellent), Budin de Pan (just ok), Creme Brûlée (good), Choc Lava cake (took 40 min to deliver after ordering, & Apple Crumble (excellent). We drank wine, beer, & 1 mixed drink (basil Mojito-good). I realize that taste differs between ARG & USA, so I will return for a few more meals to get other experiences here.. This is a reservation only, fine dining establishment, which is why the expectations were high for a great meal. Also, there was no lighting at our table and around our area- we were in very dim lighting. I understand that some near-by lights were not functioning, tho' to this I say, use candles. We used our cell phone lights. The wait staff were very helpful & attentive.

Coco's

Reviewed By Hefferz - London, United Kingdom

So rarely do i leave bad reviews, but I thought Coco's was awful. The food was lacklustre, lacking flavour, and if I'd cooked it at home I'd have been disappointed. Meat was tough and tasteless, vegetables had been cooked to death, and the food lacked any excitement or imagination. It's not cheap either. Can't think of much good to say, except we had a good bottle of wine. Service and staff were good.

San Jose

Es el mejor lugar para comer en Chaco

Reviewed By dlfitz - Vancouver, Washington

San Jose is a local institution, with years of consistent service of traditional Argentine "fast food". The menu has the normal offerings: mini croissants & pastries, sandwiches cold & hot, empanadas, pizzas, as well as cakes, cookies, and ice cream. A specialty to the menu here is the "Chipa", a cheesy bread ball made from a manioc (yucca) flour base. Very tasty! Their coffees are dependable and they have 'liquados', blended fruit drinks mixed with milk or water. I like their fresh orange juice. The waiters will take good care of you and the place is clean and simply decorated. at a second location near-by, one can watch the crew work on the day's baking tasks. There is inside and outside Seating at both locations.

La Bianca

Reviewed By mckplus - Bristol, United Kingdom

I don't know whether this place has recently been sold to another owner, whether we went in at a bad time, ordered poorly, or other reviewers have simply not been to the same great establishments we have in Argentina; but our experience of La Bianca is far from good, and way-off the Lonely Planet's rave review.
My partner and I went in at 8.30pm, and were the only people in the place, bar 1 other table. This wouldn't normally be an issue except here there were 8 wait-staff, 5 of which were just sitting in the dinning area, 2 on their phones, another just aimlessly tearing up paper - hardly professional, and we felt like we were intruding on their personal time.
Despite other people's mentions of "good value" etc, we were surprised at how expensive the menu was, compared with other, similar restaurants in the city. Having eaten our bodyweight in steak over the past week, my partner and I decided to eat something alternative - I ordered pasta, my partner a salad.
Firstly, the menu divides pasta into price for pasta, and additional price for sauce (I've never seen this in my life), and only after ordering did I realise this, meaning I paid more for simple (not very tasty nor satisfying) cheese pasta than I had in many other restaurants for a 300g steak and papas fritas.
The salad was equally as poor; for what the lonely planet calls generous portions, my partner was served little more than a cupful of cold rice, with tomato and onion mixed in. Neither generous, nor a salad, in our opinion. When we enquired, we discovered all the salads are rice based, and all that same small size.
The house red was another disaster, tasting more like sour grape juice than the fine wines we were used to tasting throughout the rest of the province and country. A real shame of a meal, which cost us the better half of our hotel room price. We ended up getting fries and beers from a takeaway place to satisfy us on the way home.

Pizzeria Los Campeones

Reviewed By Rapencil93 - Oxford, United Kingdom

Stumbled across this little restaurant with my boyfriend when we accidentally had to spend the night in Resistencia en route to Salta. We weren't expecting much, and ordered the four-cheese pizza with a bottle of the house red. This turned out to be one of the best meals we've ever had, it was very cheap (pizza about £4), it arrived quickly and the pizza was cooked to absolute perfection. Restaurant wasn't fancy but it didn't need to be for the quality of the food. Service was also fantastic. Would definitely recommend and we will be certainly going back if we are ever in the region again!

Juan Segundo

Reviewed By dlfitz - Vancouver, Washington

Juan Segundo is a very nice fine dining experience and a rare find in Resistencia. The food was very enjoyable, from the steaks, to the stuffed chicken breast, to the raviolis; all done with nuance and finish. The salads and desserts are also well-prepared, and the baked goods were of high quality instead of the average offering in a typical restaurant. The service was excellent and we will return for many more visits for a great meal out!
