Selene

'Selene' restaurant was established in 1986 in Fira, Santorini by Yiorgos and Evelyn Hatziyannakis. Our aim was from the very start, to show and promote the local products along with the local cuisine hoping that this will enable us to transmit to our guests a taste of the island's culture. The success that we have had all those years not only within Greece but also worldwide, has encouraged us to continue with cooking lessons, catering for weddings and conferences and various gastronomical events. Since 2010 'Selene' restaurant has moved location from Fira to Pyrgos. Pyrgos is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages of Santorini built around a medieval castle located in one of the highest points of the island offering magnificent views. What is mostly important for us however is that Pyrgos village, and the restaurant's location especially, lies next to the famous vineyards and the valuable farmland of Santorini.

This is a review of my second visit to Selene- I already raved about the first time I visited least year. My second time wasn't a let down by any means. Before I say more, people call me a picky customer, not least because I'm vegetarian but also because I'm demanding about food and wine. When I pay New York or London prices, I expect the same kind of quality. Selene is hands down the only place on Santorini that does, though there are many that try.
They didn't have any vegetarian main courses on the menu, which raises some eyebrows in the 21st century, but Georgina, the lovely waitress assured me, the chef would "create a surprise". Having been there before, I agreed. The first thing that made me think I'm in good hands again was the recommended wine. Absolutely perfect, different from the fantastic Sigalas I usually have when in Greece and the perfect match with the food that was to come.
The starter- Potato in Hayes- certainly reassured me that I was in excellent hands again. It was the best starter I had in many months. Not only was the presentation spot on, the taste was simply faultless. Full of flavour, perfectly seasoned, rich without beating overbearing. My face must have said it all, as Georgina summarised succinctly "you're in heaven". And I was! My surprise main course was, by far, the best aubergine dish I've ever had. Served by the chef himself, I felt the explanation of the food he created for me definitely showed that they value food-loving customers. Aubergine not being my favourite vegetable, I took my first bite and put all my Reservations to aubergines to rest, forever. Tender without being soggy, again flavourful without losing its original taste, I fully enjoyed my main dish. And of course by that point I had no doubt whatsoever that the dessert would be just as good and it was.
If you love food, are happy to pay for Michelin-quality (they will get their star soon), and happen to be on the beautiful island of Santorini, book a table here and they will make sure that you experience the best Greek cuisine has to offer. I'll be back in a few days ;)

I've been here before and really liked the food. The last time I commented on their delicious salsa but it contained sugar. I'm happy to report it no longer has sugar and I rate it a perfect 10! I've been to many Mexican restaurants in the states that didn't have salsa this good. The tacos are also good, and the ribs are fantastic and are HUGE. This is now my favorite restaurant in Santorini.

We were recommended by Ocean Wave Tours to have dinner here. I believe it translates to between us. I suspect it’s a local haunt so we were able to avoid the tourist scene (hypocritical since we are tourists ourselves). The food was really good..I had grilled shrimp and my companions had steak varieties (t-bone and filet) along with potatoes. All were exceptional.

This is a hidden gem in Pyrgos. We stumbled upon this little Café/Restaurant whilst exploring the various lanes around Pyrgos. The food is traditional and cooked by the grandmother of the family that own Penelope's.
We had the chicken with spicy sauces - not spicy but tasty, Greek Salad which was excellent, bread and dips and potatoes. The food is simple but full of flavour.
The outside Seating provides shade from the sun and a great outlook of part of the island.
Certainly worth a try if your looking for an inexpensive, authentic lunch venue.

The cutest cafe! Hidden away in the small streets of Emporio, this cafe has so much charm its hard to resist. The owners, Georgia and Vassillis are the friendliest cafe owners I met here.
The baklava is just heavenly, especially with the ice cream. Frappe is always good in Santorini and the ones I had here top the charts!!
A little gem!

Nibe Restaurant

The restaurant established in 2009, using traditional recipes of Santorini . Over the years we continue to cook the traditional recipes adding some modern flavours. Our restaurant is housed in old windmill. The name has its source from the equipment of a windmill, the millstone that used to grind wheat, barley, fava and cereals. Our cuisine is Mediterranean, Greek, local. We use fresh ingredients. Our suppliers are local growers of tomato, eggplant, katsouni, chloro cheese, sun dried tomato, capper and wine.

Visiting Santorini donot hesitate to have lunch or dinner to Mylopetra (Wind mill Stone) at PYRGOS village. Its situated just at the entrance of the village with its own parking. You won't miss it. Main Symbol of this resto a white Wind Mill. The place is also sober white, architecturaly composed by a friend architect (Mr. Babis - the soul of the place). The ambience due to his pefectional aesthetic is so cool and peaceful with a view to Thirasia and theCladera the magical cliff of the island.
You must taste my favourite dish - lamb ofto (a recipe from Crete), of couse a yiammy musaka or Shrimps risotto. Every day a different desert is served as a gift from the resto with a bit of Raki - an apperitif similar to ouzo. Ask for the table with the sofa, is sooo relaxing. Don' miss it.

Great variety of Greek dishes for reasonable prices - and all delicious! We came here for two meals and were able to try quite a number of their appetisers. Sadly, the Santorini salad wasn't available as it wasn't the season for fresh tomatoes. Loved the ambience of the outdoor Seating area as well, though it's best not to sit too near the roadside (where it can be dusty).
