We did not stay at the hotel but we did stop in for a fabulous lunch. Good service, great food. The manager is very pleasant and the property is beautiful. Wish we had been spending some time there.

Fisherman Lodge, developing Punta Allen since 1954. In 1954, the Zapata Family Don Ivan , his wife and his son, Ivan Zapata left the island of Cozumel to look for better opportunities. The family went by boat to Siann Kaan where they reestablished their lives. They made a living by the sale of copra, coconut pulp. They would harvest their product and send it by a boat freighter from Cozumel.As time passed, Don Ivan constructed some small cabins the families would used as their tropical fishing ranch. There was a small kitchen that functioned as a restaurant serving the freshest seafood from the caribbean. Punta Allen was still an unknown tropical paradise used only by a few. Over time, Don Ivan and other families made the road from Tulum to Punta Allen with rustic tools using only machetes and shovels. An incredible achievement.In 1968, at the age of 18, Don Ivan formed the cooperative fishery with 15 other families. The title was given to them by the Lic. Javier Rojo Gomez, the governor of the state. They officially dedicated their lives to working with reef fishing, lobster fishing, fly-fishing, and eco - tours. For years Don Ivan and his family helped pioneer the tourist, particularly the fishing industry, along the Yucatan Peninsula. The original “Fisherman Lodge” ranch was one the first of it’s kind and operated successfully for years.The ranch was destroyed in 1995 by Hurricane Roxana, the family was devastated financially. Proudly after years of working to re open the ranch, the family Zapata would like to introduce their new Fisherman Lodge. They are excited share this grand experience with you. The Zapata family acknowledges they are privileged to have this wonderful fishery, Ascension Bay, in their backyard and they would like to share it with you. There are very few place in the world that offer the variety of species like the Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook and the most popular and most sought after Permit. When 3 of these species are caught in the same day this is called a Grand Slam. When all 4 of these species are caught in the same day this is called a Super Slam.

This small taste of Mexico is absolutely excellent!!! The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the beds are all new. The entire staff is very attentive and polite. By far the best food in Mexico! My fly fishing experience with Fisherman Lodge is allways outstanding. Whether you are interested in a fly fishing trip with their expert fly fishing guides or just want a great place to stay and or eat, you simply cannot go wrong with Fisherman Lodge! Miguel and Gricel run a tight ship and are always on hand to ensure their guests are happy and want to return. I've been traveling to Mexico for over a decade and have done business with the manager 'Mike' for many of those years. He is honest, fair and his prices are exceptional for what you get!!! I will not stay anywhere else and will continue to return as many times per year as my schedule allows.

We ate here the first night we were in Punta Allen and enjoyed the meal. Be careful of the drinks; I got a marguerita blended even though I asked for on the rocks and the next day I was sick. I am not positive it was from the drink but often times ice used for drinks is also used for refrigeration. Food was good.

We stopped here this morning for coffee. But we received so much more! Juan persuaded us to try his pies. The key lime was to die for; the coconut flan was the best we've had outside of Cuba. And speaking of Cuba, Juan proved to be a superb story teller. All in all, we had a terrific experience!

The whole place maybe seats 16 people or so, but I've never seen more than 8 at a time so don't be worried. We ate here 2-3 times during our visit. The food is well done and the staff very warm and friendly. Keep in mind this is rural Mexico. So everything is relative of course. Also don't be surprised if the neighbor's dog comes over to visit and ask for a bite of food.
