Restaurant I Caffi

Reviewed By Whitebeard83 - Fayence, France

We were new to Acqui Terme and we asked our hotel and a salesperson in a clothing store where we should have lunch. Without hesitation, they said i Caffi. What an extraordinary stroke of good luck to have lunch and the following day to have dinner in one of the best restaurants we've enjoyed in Italy. Let me walk you through our experience. Firstly, their welcome is open and smiling and that sets the stage for the meals. Secondly, the cuisine is simple, inventive, and creative. The chef sources primarily from the region. Our vegetables were fresh. The meat and poultry were full of flavour, not run-of-the-mill industrial products we've often had to tolerate. Try their quail breast salad, their flan de courgette or the poulpe ravioli. Somewhat sceptical because we had never tried it before, we had Piemont lamb and beef. As a New Zealander I believe our lamb is the gold standard for the lamb industry. That was before we had their grilled lamb chops. Superb, they were every bit as good as...maybe a bit better...than the NZ lamb we get in France. The rump steak was done to perfection. I asked for it to be grilled 'a point legerment rose' and it cut like a dream. A rump steak that is chewable? Yes, it was outstanding. We drank open wines: a colossal Barbera d'Asti 2015 and a sparkling Pinot from the same vineyard. Both were superb. Dessert? Try the fresh strawberries with rose ice cream. Sublime and a lovely way to finish our meals. A final note about the owners: Sara and Pierrot. They have to be two of the nicest people we have met in years. Language was not a problem. They were patient, they were proud of their kitchen and servers, they reached out to us and created two magical meals. Sara's mom is in the kitchen. There is a lot of love in i Caffi. In the fall when the white mushroom season begins we will call ahead and ask for a table. Life is too short not to keep going back. We are grateful for the experience of having two very fine meals. Found this place while driving from Barberino Outlet Village to Malpensa. Was little difficult to find and thought it had closed by then. But it was lively inside, people enjoying their drinks and food. Folding options were limited being vegetarians. Got 2-3 dishes specially made for us which were average. Belgium Dark and IPA were on tap which were very good, specially the Dark. They had Guinness on Tap too and a special device to make fizz/further carbonise the Guinness from the Tap. Limited options open and available at night in the area.

We had read about this restaurant and how nice the owners were. These comments are absolutely correct. We have never been to any restaurant where we were immediately made to feel at home. Cristina and Fillipo are people who you feel like you known them your whole life. They are so welcoming and gracious. As Americans, we seldom meet people who really love what they are doing and love to feed people. This passion is what make the food so good and the experience memorable. I wish I could eat here every night although I might get too fat. The portions are not so large, but there are so many, you get to taste everything. When Cristina recited the menu, I was trying to remember all of the things she said so I could decide what to order. What a surprise when everything she said we were served. We had to stop eating every bit that we were served so we could make it to the end. Everything was carefully prepared and of very high quality. We drank Fillipo's Barbera d'asti for dinner and finished with his grappa. Bruno is a small village of 340 people, but for anyone wanting to experience the best Italy has to offer, you should make the trek to this restaurant. We have eaten at Michellin starred restaurants but enjoyed this restaurant as much or more.

Moreover, I have to highlight the kindness of the staff and the owner. Warmly recommended.

Everything was just perfect. Very welcoming wait-staff, our (reserved) table was already set up with bread and an amuse-bouche.
Menu is extensive and deserves careful study! They do have English versions if needed.
We had an excellent wine and chose a cheese plate which came with 5 local cheeses and delicious home-made jams and honey. This was just superb.
Pasta dishes were excellent - the. Servings are surprisingly big, so it would be easy to over-order. We also had "small" side salads which would have been big enough for two.
Desserts all looked fantastic and the one we enjoyed was!
One of the best meals ever!!

We (2 adults, 2 children) had dinner here twice in early July 2015. Food is served outside. This way you can enjoy the beautiful scenery (Villa Scati itself). Service was smooth and very attentive. We enjoyed the fine Piemontese dining experience.
The wine list is impressive. Overall price/Quality Vila Scati is cheap, or in other words, great food at a low price.

This is a very nice small restaurant in a small town in Piedmont, with indoor and outdoor dining.
We had an outdoor table on a warm summer night, and it was delightful.
There is a selection of set menus, or a la carte.
The food is very well prepared and presented, though servings are not large. My scallops and pigeon were very good indeed.
The wine list is very extensive and well balanced, and should suit all tastes and price ranges.
The staff are very polite and unobtrusive, well trained and helpful.
Only downside was the presence of other diners smoking nearby, but as this was outdoors and non-smoking policy is not well entrenched in Italy yet, I can't blame the restaurant too much.
Recommended.

A quick overnight stop in Acqui and saw the listing on TripAdvisor as well as walking past during the day. Receptionist at our hotel kindly reserved a table for us.
Located in a beautiful old building near the duomo....we were not sure how it would go as our arrival was met by the chef who seemed to take no prisoners... however our concerns were unfounded and we were well looked after by one of the happiest and content seeming waiters we ever met.
We were treated to two courses of what seemed simple dishes cooked with skill and to perfection. Spaghetti with just a couple of ingredients was wonderful and the piemontese ravioli was sublime. My partner had steak which she said was the best she'd ever had and I had a lovely veal Milanese.
A lovely bottle of wine and some sweets to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable meal. If ever in Acqui, stop by...you will not be disappointed.

After checking into our hotel just a short drive from Mombaruzzo we needed a place for lunch, and fortunately for us, the hotel staff recommended La Marlera. We loved it, it was the perfect meal to start off our holiday in the area. A bit hard to find, but well worth it. It has a simple, lovely interior and the service was extremely friendly, even with the language barrier. The tagliolini was perfectly tender and delicious and the cheese course with 6 jams was fantastic. The red pepper, aubergine and tomato jams were my favourites and a perfect pairing with the local cheeses. All of this with a great bottle of wine and you have Piedmont perfection!
