Prairie Du Chien, WI 53821 relatively new coffee house - nice web site - I enjoy eating there

Reviewed By Kevin N

What a great find in an historic river town! Set in an old building with exposed brick walls and worn wood floors! A nice variety of chairs and tables with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the signature Blackhawk Mocha after a satisfying lunch! There is a good variety of sandwiches and soups, the usual array of specialty coffees along with tempting treats to have with it!

Jones' Black Angus

Our family adults gathered here at Jones Black Angus this weekend for a post Christmas get together. Our party of 12 were all pleasantly surprised by the awesomeness of this restaurant in Prairie du Chen. Its a quaint looking super club with an excellent staff, menu, salad bar and atmosphere. We all felt very comfortable at the seats at the bar as well as at the table. Everyone of us commented on how good the acoustics were so we could hear the nice music playing but we could also visit quite nicely throughout our evening. The vast menu and food were superb. So many choices and no one went away disappointed. I highly recommend this dinner club. Make a reservation as its very very busy. We drove all the way from Dubuque to meet our relatives from LaCrosse. Thank you for a perfect evening.

Fort Mulligan's Grillpub

Reviewed By douglasl739 - Green Bay, Wisconsin

We were looking for a lunch place in the historic downtown of Prairie du Chien and came upon Fort Mulligan's Grill Pub. The pub is located in the Famechon Building that was built in 1885 from limestone remnants recycled from the decommissioned Fort Crawford buildings a little farther up the river. The building was a general store first and then a bar after Prohibition in the 1930s. An extensive 1999 remodeling exposed the 23-inch limestone Fort Crawford walls and original ceilings. It was opened under the Fort Mulligan name in 2000.

The pub was pleasantly full with locals (alway a good sign) during a weekday lunch hour. We ordered a Cobb Salad and Quesadilla, having had our fill of burgers and fries along the Great River Road. The Quesadilla was nicely done and the Cobb Salad deconstructed into diagonal lines of ingredients just the way you see it in a cookbook.

Service was prompt and polite, and the price fair for the items and area. Stop in to see the restoration and stay to enjoy a meal and brew.

The Barn Restaurant

We frequent The Barn Restaurant during the summer. This time we ordered the prime rib. It was probably one of the best prime ribs we have eaten. It had just the right amount of marbling for excellent flavor. We have been to other restaurants in that area and ordered a 12 ounce prime rib and at least half was inedible. Their salad bar is very good and their soup is excellent. You might have to wait in the bar until they have a table for you, but the bartenders there are great. Drew, the manager, is the greatest. He will make sure you're pleased with the food, drink, and service.

Pete's Hamburger Stand

This is a street side burger stand that we stop at each year when on motorcycle trips to the area. The burgers are cooked in water and onion and come out a bit wet when placed on the bun. They are not very large so get two. It's a must stop since it's a historic joint. They once in a while have a picnic table to sit at but otherwise its the sidewalk. The burgers don't seem to have as much flavor this year. Give it a try it's at least historic.

Frazier's Old Faithful Inn

Reviewed By smalldog33 - Marquette, Iowa

We live in a neighboring town and didn't even know that this place had food. Once we read some reviews of Frazier's Old Faithful Inn, we decided to give it a try and found that it is a cozy and friendly neighborhood bar that serves some great pizza that is made inhouse. The pizza sizes (only 12") and varieties are somewhat limited compared to regular pizza restaurants, but they make up for it with flavor and value. We had a sausage and pepperoni pizza and a couple beers and the total bill was under $14.... it's hard to get out of a fast food dump for that!
