Really cool place, which looks a bit tacky from the exterior, but is in fact pretty classy. Excellent seafood offerings, really enjoyed the oysters, and the John Dory fish pie was amazing. Mussels not bad, wine good value, very decent service from both the youngsters and the attentive manager

Le Pre en Bulles - Chez Martine

Reviewed By Venus R - London, United Kingdom

Me and my partner went to this little paradise on our first night in Paris. We had just arrived in Paris, and we randomly walked into this great restaurant. Word cannot describe our experience that night. Martine greeted us with the most amazing menu. A group of Martine's friends, who were also dining there that night, also sat next to us, we all chatted, and laughed together. I had "THE MOST AMAZING" food in the perfect ambience and the perfect company of friends. Martine offered us her own blended drinks on the house after our dinner. We had a magical, magical night in her restaurant, where not only we had great food, but we got to know many beautiful people, which I hope we keep contact with. If you are in Paris, you have to go there.
Thank you Martine, and her friends, for creating the best night of our trip :)

Relais

Reviewed By Thomast1940

I found this unprepossessing restaurant almost by accident. Tucked away in the northern Parisien district of Pantin, I had asked advice from a local about places to eat, and Relais was highly recommended. Handy for Metro, Eglise de Pantin, it is the outlet for a school of cookery. The food is of the highest quality, supervised by the instructors and prepared by the students. The prices are significantly lower than one would expect for the class of food offered. The restaurant is fairly unprepossessing in terms of decor but the food more than makes up for this. Clearly there is not a huge menu but what there is on offer is excellent. I was impressed by my meals there and would insist that this is a restaurant never to be missed. It is worth a vast detour. Unparalleled value for money. Especially for the Paris region.

Restaurant Argana

My better half has often spoken of a delicious Morroccan restaurant based in Paris 20eme. Upon when we go to the restaurant and as we began to eat, I urge him wide eyed : 'why has it taken you a year to take me here?!' He smiled, then we both smiled as the food was everything I wanted, honest sumptious, flavourful. It felt nourishing and wholesome to eat. Mulled spiced vegetables in warm autumn tones and fluffy soft couscous, gentle and fragrant with enough spice for more just add the harissa. The couple owning the restaurant were kind, warm and free of pretence. I found the place refreshing, the opposite of so many snobby expensive places abundant in this city. I wish them every blessing and would definietly go there again.

ASPIC

ASPIC is a human sized Parisian restaurant located in the heart of the 9th district, close to Place Pigalle. ASPIC serves a seasonal set menu that changes every month and dishes are served by the chefs for a better dinning experience. We serve organic and natural wines.

Reviewed By Peter B - Southend-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Aspic is a small restaurant of maybe 20/24 covers. It is cleanly and simply decorated and quite unpretentious. Diners dress casually, there are no tablecloths, the staff are also casual and very friendly and helpful. Vincent is front of House, Quentin Giroud is the Chef with two sous-chefs. All four would come to table to serve and explain.
Aspic serves a fixed 7 course menu (in fact we counted 10 courses including an amuse-bouche) which for the price (€65) and quality is amazingly good value. My wife thought it was perhaps the finest meal she had eaten ever. Myself I might make it second only to Jean-Yves the previous night but it's a close run thing. The ingredients and flavours were beautifully balanced, showing real skill and understanding. These were our courses:
Ham with warm brioche and home made butter
Ginger bread, foie gras and quince jam
Mackerel, pineapple, sesame sauce, sorrel, sesame crisps
Razor clams, salmon eggs, dill. cauliflower veloute, croutons
Pollock, broccoli puree, leeks
Sweet onion, fried capers, yoghurt and lemon, lardons
Aberdeen Angus steak, salsify, buckwheat, olive puree, veal veloute
Chicory leaves with a slice of cheese and a hot chilli sauce
Apple pudding
Madeleines and macarons
Enjoy!

After Reading John Talbott's blog and his reviews, we had to try this restaurant .The food was totally awesome in its creativity. The Chef's wife runs the front while he is in the kitchen...Great teamwork.A simply wonderful dining experience to rival any Michelin 3 star , but without any snobbery or pretence, or prices, for that matter.
We would definitely return to this place.

Jean Yves of Chef Jean-Yves' Table

Reviewed By Jillettelg - Guam, Mariana Islands

What a memorable experience! From the moment Jean Yves, his sous chef Fred, and his adorable pet doggie Luc welcomed us into his home it was obvious that this chef was an artist! His passion was evident throughout the entire evening as he explained the concept of his food and inevitably, his life. Challenging us to identify tastes in his creations led to an enriched experience - much more than just dinner! We will sing Jean-Yves praises and certainly encourage others to experience this. We were certainly honored to have been invited into this chef's home. We found Jean Yves to be not only passionate but thoughtful, knowledgeable, warm and sincere in sharing his life's work - his life passion. I'd venture to say, the best dining experiences ever!
