April 15, 2018 Lashaunda Abraham

Oil City is a city in Venango County, Pennsylvania, that is known in the initial exploration and development of the petroleum industry. Initial settlement of the town was sporadic, and tied to the iron industry. After the first oil wells were drilled in 1861, Oil City became central in the petroleum industry while hosting headquarters for the Pennzoil, Quaker State, and Wolf's Head motor oil companies. Tourism plays a prominent role in the region by promoting oil heritage sites, nature trails, and Victorian architecture. The population was 10,557 at the 2010 census, and is the principal city of the Oil City, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Yellow Dog Lantern

Reviewed By JLMacTripFun

Last Thursday we went to the Yellow Dog for dinner.
We enjoyed buffalo chicken taquitos as an appetizer - delicious alone and terrific with the ranch dressing dip.
The salads were fresh and crisp, with the dressing on the side. Nice since some use all the dressing and others just a little.
I'd selected the salmon with asiago/artichoke sauce along with the special quinoa/red rice/kale side dish. Both were wonderful! The prime rib and cottage fries for the other entree. Prime rib was great, but the cottage fries were a little hard.
For dessert we shared dulce de leche cheese cake - delicious. Coffee was also great. A lovely evening :)

Convenient location, tasty food all cooked perfectly to order, damn fine coffee, friendly service, clean bathrooms, and good prices. Will definitely eat there again when I am in Oil City. Also, the miniature car/vehicle display on the walls is interesting for kids & collectors.

The inside of this location is spacious and TVs for all manner of sporting events abound. The food was better than than average. Try your sandwich as a "wedgie". The fried pickles are above average and nicely crispy. Beers are cold and the service was good. Easy street parking and plenty of places to shop close by. ENJOY!

Visiting family the July 4th, most places were closed or getting ready to close. As this restaurant is open 24/7, thought we'd run by. I'd heart great thiings, but wasn't sure from the appearance. Definetly worth a stop. Homemade noodles, sausages, meatballs, garlic bread. Portions are good. Wait staff makes you feel like family. Will make this a regular spot when back in town visiting.

McNerney's Tavern

Reviewed By Road_Warrior32034 - Fernandina Beach, Florida

We lucked into McNerney's Tavern (an Irish pub) when we happened to be in Oil City during the Oil Heritage Festival in late July. We had noticed it on our walk through the festival area and it was one of the places recommended by the downtown museum docent. It featured counter/bar seating as well as table seating. The décor might give a fine diner some pause, but having enjoyed some fine tasting pub grub in some unpretty places in Ireland, we gave the lack of ambiance little mind. Being frugal (some call us cheap) we knew we had picked the right place when we saw the menu. We had delicious fountain Cokes as we decided what to have for lunch. Of their many selections, my wife chose the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and I got the Chef’s Salad with ham, Turkey and cheese. My wife enjoyed her sandwich enough to save half of it to extend her enjoyment through dinner time that night. My salad was a respectable size with a nice portion of the extras, but I decided to enjoy all of it right then. The manager even stopped by our table, as all good managers should, to verify everything was to our satisfaction. We spent a total of $15, including a 20% tip for the very personable waitress. By the look of their breakfast menu, had we lived in Oil City, I would be eating there often and probably putting on a lot of weight. If you want good value and are not hung up about fancyness, McNerney’s is the place in Oil City.

Strawberry Delight

Reviewed By DiscountKing - Seneca, Pennsylvania, United States

Strawberry Delight sells a variety of hot food and ice cream desserts.

Food: The hamburger combo meal was grilled fresh, juicy and served to order on a homemade bun with hand cut fries and a can of a Pepsi product. The burger was large, hot and topped with a sufficient amount of selected toppings.

Ice Cream: Great quality ice cream cones, sundaes, flurries and shakes. Prices are cheaper than other area competitiors.

Service: Excellent and customer-oriented. On a cold snowy day, the lady working at the shop brought the food to the car when it was ready. She made sure the food was satisfactory before I left.

Grounds: Picnic tables are available in front of the shop as well as out back.

Bottom Line: Highly recommend Strawberry Delight for food and ice cream products.

Northside Eatery

Reviewed By DiscountKing - Seneca, Pennsylvania, United States

Northside Eatery offers a variety of fancier sandwiches compared to its average competitors. The food was good but some members definitely needed to add more spice. The prices are overly inflated and not worth the price they are asking for the food.

If you are a sandwich lover, you may want to check this place out.

This is primarily a bar, which is fine if you need a beer or something stronger. They advertise "home cooking" but their cook at home isn't up to MY standards. I've had the hamburger (overcooked and dry) and their pretzel with dip appetizer (not bad). But the steamed mussels were not unsafe to eat -- just slightly elderly and not tasty, despite their description that they are steamed in garlic butter and wine. Hardly any flavor at all.
