Where to Eat in Ogunquit: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 15, 2018 Velvet Mowry

The motto of the resort town of Ogunquit, Maine, is "beautiful place by the sea," and with three and a half miles of sheltered white sand beaches, the residents are definitely not lying. Take a walk along the Marginal Way, a path that winds along rocky cliffs overlooking the ocean, or explore the town center on the local public transit - an old fashioned trolley. With art galleries, fresh seafood, and the summer stock Ogunquit Playhouse, the town of Ogunquit is a favorite vacation destination.

When in this area I frequent this lobster shack often. The lobster are always fresh and sweet and they will steam them for you to eat in their outside picnic area or you can take them back to where you are staying.
Owners are friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend this place to get your lobster at a more than reasonable price!

Cove Cafe

In a time where everyone seems to be into metro or gourmet cuisine I am very pleased to know a place still exists to get a true New England breakfast. By that I mean a place where all the classics can still be enjoyed from eggs & meat, waffles, pancakes, and even yes a few new age healthy items like yogurt parfaits. After going to Ogunquit every April and October for 15 years I finally stopped by the Cove Café last year and was truly smitten. I was just up for my annual October visit this past weekend and breakfast was fabulous with honorable mention to the best hash I have ever had in a long while. For you non-Yankee's/New Englander's hash is a delicacy when made correctly and that is the Hash I had this past Friday morning. If I had not had the chance to meet Jeb I would have sworn he had my mother back in the kitchen cooking as his hash was just like what my late mother used to make. So if your looking for a rib sticker of a breakfast, with great staff, and cozy atmosphere then stop by the Cove Café.

We came here for breakfast on a recommendation from the hotel we’re staying at and glad we did! My husband had the special- Seafood Benedict (w/ homemade crab cakes, scallops & shrimp), and I had the Omelette w/ Lobster & Brie (I added spinach, too). Both dishes were delicious! The served homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam that was yummy, too. The service was friendly and prompt. This will definitely be our go-to breakfast place when visiting Ogunquit!

Lobster Shack

Enjoy lobster, steamers, lobster rolls, chowder and a whole lot more in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Live lobsters caught by local lobstermen wait in tanks filled with ocean water coming straight from the cove. Choose your size and two sides. For all the taste without the work, have a lobster roll any way you like it...a quarter pound single, double-stuffed, triple, or an entire pound on a buttery toasted roll with or without mayo. The lobster wrap and lobster BLT are also recently added favorites. Homemade chowder made from an old family recipe is a great way to start your meal, there's no thickening flour just the perfect combination of clams, fish, potatoes, onions and spices in a milk and cream base. The "Shack" has been owned and operated by the Evans family since the 1980s and is proud to serve the hottest chowder and the coldest beer in town. Let Jason, his family and his crew provide you with a true Maine eating experience in the oldest restaurant in Perkins Cove...

The chowder was good, the fish tacos so-so. Some of the tables are very close together and can be uncomfortable for a tall person. (Hard to get in and out; we kept spilling our chowder and beer.) Portions were generous, prices a little high. Very nice staff.

Five-O Shore Road

Reviewed By LochnessConnecticut - Connecticut

Nice restaurant within walking distance of all of the inns in the village. We eaten here before and really liked the place. Current menu is limited, especially when it comes to seafood. Hello management; Ogunquit is a seaside village; you should have a minimum of 3 or 4 good choices of fresh seafood available on your regular menu! The night we were there, the fish was a type of cod we had never heard of. It was a nice piece of fish, but nothing out of the ordinary, and without jazzing it up, very bland. It came with a warm salad...quite simple, and rather boring...and a tomato based risotto that was overly acidic and a little pasty. Now, to be fair, nothing was bad; it just wasn't what you would expect for $30 a plate...and before management blows a gasket about a complaint about the price, read my other restaurant reviews; I don't often complain about the fare; as in almost NEVER. In fact, I more often than not mention prices in a positive way simply because a properly prepared meal with fresh ingredients is not inexpensive to make. But come on, a piece of cod, some greens and a scoop of so-so risotto for $30? Sorry, that doesn't cut it. Add to that the fact that it took a full 50 minutes after placing our order before we saw anything but bread and wine. Service was attentive and quite good if you can get past the inordinate length of time it took for the food to arrive. Not sure if we would go back.

The way that wine is served it is easy to pair your wine with each individual course - and you can obtain some truly excellent wines at very reasonable prices. We were impressed wit the service and professionalism. It was very busy that evening but you were never rushed. servers were patient at explaining the menu items. For people who dine out frequently, this place provides a nice change of pace. For people who appreciate great food and wine period you can't miss. This is
