Barnside Creamery

Reviewed By Ken H - Chagrin Falls, Ohio

Went here after a day of bird watching at Magee Marsh and it was exactly what we all needed-- a cold sweet treat.

This small red barn is located on the corner of two main roads and is a wonderful slice of Americana that are so few and far between these days (at least in my neck of the woods.)

We only tried the soft serve ice creams so I can't attest to the hot food, but the soft serve was great.

FYI, there is no "inside" with only a few picnic tables and benches to sit on outside. However, this encourages socialization which can be more fun than just sitting at a private table.

Would recommend after a long day of birding or long day of anything else!

Come out and enjoy a family owned restaurant that conveniently sits right in between Toledo and Cedar Point. We have a variety of foods that range from nachos to pizza and our unique bread sticks (Piggy Bones and Knuckles). To wash it all down we have five beers on tap, a full bar , and Dollar Canned beers that are offered in Labatt Blue, Labatt Light, Bud Light, PBR, and Busch Light. Come see us anytime!!

I met my family here and because of traffic had to wait a while for them. The waitress was very friendly about this and offered no pressure. It was a Sunday evening and the place was lively but not packed. It's basically a bar and had a lot of regulars. Both the TV and loud country music were playing; patrons were also loud but the atmosphere in general was jovial and it wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk normally at our table. The food was good. We had the Piggie Bones, which I thought were kind of salty, but they were really good, an excellent sausage pizza, and a really good baked potato pizza - one of their gourmet recipes. We had checked the online menu beforehand and that wasn't on it; the waitress explained that the online menu is actually only the menu for one of their locations and that each location had slightly different offerings. The kids had a good time playing pool (for free). I should also mention that the bathrooms were almost unusable with lots of water on the floor, but there had just been a really intense storm the previous night and a waitress mentioned that they hadn't been able to get a plumber there yet, so hopefully that's not generally a problem. This place is certainly worth a stop if you're in the area.

Had supper with a friend. The chicken chunk salad was great and the hospitality was just as good. Rob who owns the place greeted us, took our order and even offered small chat. It's a small bar/restaurant in the middle of nowhere, but well worth the trip. I'm told the heart attack burgers are to die for.

My husband and I don't like chain restaurants. This is the kind of place we like to go to. The people who run it are locals and very friendly. Down home cooking. Nothing fancy.... just good! There is always home baked pies and desserts. The blueberry pancakes where bursting with big fresh blueberries. The eggs are fresh. They make great sausage gravy which is an art form...... if you have tried it at various other restaurants good sausage gravy is hard to come by. We mostly eat breakfast here. don't know much about the dinner/lunch entrees.

Ala Carte Cafe

Reviewed By Xxsnotrodxx

After stopping at Berardis and having a bad experience, we left and went on the hunt for something a little more off the grid. We found Ala Carte Cafe. When we typically find a small hole in the wall restaurant with a packed parking lot...thats a great sign! lol. The atmosphere was nice, old time diner feel. Pretty friendly service, all be it slow. We had the smothered biscuit. It sounded and looked alot more appetizing than it actually was. It wasn't "horrible" but it was nothing to write home about. The biscuit was dry and to "cakey". hashbrowns were good, gravy was OK,egg was good. price was OUTRAGEOUS however. That is my biggest gripe with the place. 2 meals and a couple of drinks was almost $40!. For a small town diner and for the quality of food I would expect the price to be more in line with HALF of what we actually paid. Also they are doing road construction in front of the place and the parking situation was a little hectic and even finding the place proved to be a chore with all the detours we had to take to get to it. Would I go back? probably not...nothing there was fantastic enough to draw me back again. Did we hate it? No...but we did not love it either. If you are crunched for time and in the area and have a few extra dollars to burn and an empty stomach to fill...its a perfectly decent place to stop and grab a bite.

I know you think I am kidding but we went there last night and my hubby, who does not particularly like pizza, loved this pizza! Fresh dough, fresh ingredients, fast, affordable, made according to specs. Not greasy. The green pepper is hand cut the way you would do at home. Friendly atmosphere. One group of patrons (8) have been coming here for dinner every week for about 8-9 years. Every Thursday. And they were there last night. The owner could not have been nicer. They also serve other things like subs and salads. The other pizza place in town is not in the same league. Pisanellos is easy to find because it is on Water St. on the corner. For a small town, who would have expected great pizza here? We were so lucky to find a restaurant close to where we camp. They deliver too! Veterans get a generous discount.

Not much to say about this tavern except that the pizza is different, sometimes it's the only one to satisfy the pizza need.
