Several of these dotted throughout the city and they’re always very popular with locals, so book ahead or be prepared to wait. Dumplings were excellent as were the sweets and local flavoured wine, however the duck, while good, is nowhere near as special as Peking style or Yunnan smoked duck. Still was all moderately priced and menu had English. Would return.

Tucked away in an alley off of Shanghai Road (Xinhua Alley, I think).
It's a good little place. Great Indian/South Asian food. Basically anything you could want. I go fairly regularly and it's always good. It's much appreciated when your palate is requesting a change from the (excellent) local cuisine and the ubiquitous foreign burger places.

Compared to other local Korean restaurants, this place is more on the pricier side. However, that's because the food is great! The workers are all Chinese but the owner is Korean.
All the banchan they served was tasty... seriously a lot plus soup and fresh fresh, FRESH lettuce. The servers were nice but seemed just a bit lost. Went on a weekday for lunch and no one was there but then comes a crowd an hour into our meal. The atmosphere was relaxing, clean, and quiet.
Best of all, the dessert they served which was shikhye. It was so refreshing and sweet and healthy. Try this place out because it taste like the food you will eat in Korea too.

Stumbled across Jimmy's Bar on our first night in Nanjing more by luck than good planning. Received a warm welcome from the staff and Jimmy himself and was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of beers available, including some craft beers from the Mornington Brewery in VIC. After extensive tastings each member of our group arrived at a slightly different favourite beer from the great range of local Master Gao draft brews - 'devil IPA' was my particular fav. The servers were attentive in making sure glasses were topped up and on request Jimmy was able to find a (IP) channel with the Ashes cricket. We stayed for some pool and a meat heavy meal (Little Boy platter).
On subsequent visits Jimmy was able to remember the beer choice of each member of our group, something my local pub has never achieved over the years!
If you are looking for a sports bar with a great atmosphere, hearty meals and a good range of beer then Jimmy's is highly recommended.

This place is great, if you are craving a burger and on a budget. You can get a great big tasty burger for 40¥ (and they inkl. fries and a coke or sprite, your choice). Add blue cheese or bacon for additional 5¥ if you like. You get an amazingly interesting sauce on the side that seems like a mix of salsa and sweet chili sauce. Really good actually!
Staff friendly and place small and cozy. It seams that they have some good lunch deals until 2pm too.

Last Christmas holiday, I had a 2-day travel to Nanjing. Since my best friend was studying there, she knew a lot of distinctive restaurants. The one that she recommended most was Nanjing DaPai Dang. Though the name sounds a little low-class, the restaurant itself is much better than its name. I found a wooden bridge as soon as I entered the front door, which was one of the Chinese traditional architecture of this restaurant. And the tables were traditional big square ones that were popular in Qing dynasty.
The dish that liked most was Osmanthus honey lotus. It tasted sweet and soft, which was quite different from Xiang cuisine in my hometown. The typical character of the Jiangsu cuisines is sweet. So, if you love sweet food, this will be a good choice for you. And one interesting thing was that the waiters and waitresses were dressed in Minguo Period style.
This is a famous restaurant, so there were many consumers. My friends and I waited almost 25 minutes, which was acceptable. But I suggest that you could visit other shops near this restaurant to pass the waiting time. In conclusion, I recommend you to have a try in this restaurant, which will help you know about Chinese traditional style and Jiangsu culture better.

We found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. The location on the map isn't very accurate as it is down an alleyway. I ordered salty duck, beef and chilli and mince buns. The food came quickly, was tasty and in a decent portion, it was also quite cheap at 130 Yuan in total for this meal plus drinks. The only downside is that the staff didn't speak any English and that the chefs and other people smoked at the tables, dropping their cigarette butts on the floor. It was good but a little hard to find, I would recommend only if you're nearby or want a truly local experience.

Popular Shanghai chain thats has a few around Nanjing. Last time i was here they had a Sunday brunch deal till around 3pm (or something totally forgot) where you get a Coffee for free, Brunch deals are around 90rmb the spread itself was alright nothing so special about it pretty mediocre. The only good thing about this place is people watching and well their Happy hour where you get the price of two drinks for one. Filled usually with Expats and tourists. The staff are quite helpful and do understand english quite abit.

Seleccion Espanola

Seleccion Espanola is a homemade Spanish food restaurant with traditional Paellas, a large variety of Pinchos, delicious artsy main courses and of course top quality Iberian cold cuts. The menu includes a selection of Spanish wines, Sangria and different cocktails. The second floor offers an intimate atmosphere with sofas, music and a big screen projector that plays documentaries and movies.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Nanjing. Ran by expats and with truly authentic spanish taste, cozy atmosphere and modern decoration style. Paellas are amazing and all of the starters i've tried so far were delicious. The mini burgers are quite a surprise, my favorite is the one with mint and foi gras, what an explosion of flavors! There is a good deal on house wines with a buy one get one free glass.
