Went there on a friday (6/11/2015).
Very cosy, trendy resto. We wanted to eat bouillabaisse and found it there. And it was marvellous. Very fresh fish. Very acceptable price.
If I have to put one minus, it would be the music. Do not play rock/pop, but better lounge or jazz.

If you don't mind being a little crowded and hot, the mussels here are pretty amazing. Service was fast and server was great at helping us translate menu options. Little pricey, but you should expect this at such a touristy city.

A very busy restaurant known for it's tapas. I wouldn't advise to order "a la carte" and not the fixed menu. (better food!). Waiters are too busy and sometimes (often!) forget the drinks you ordered. Kitchen was slow as well. I think they can't handle a "full house" well. The food was great however!

the restaurant is convenient located a few steps from the coast-tram from Ostend;
but parking is also available nearby;
we appreciate the very friendly reception and the attentive service of Heidi and Christine;
they always take into account special requirements,
but even the low-salt fish dishes were very tasteful, thanks to an excellent seasoning mix,
this reveals a high professional skill of the chief cook Patrick, giving always such artful presentations, with creativity and excellent variations;
the appropriate wines and champagne, were chosen by the sommelier Gino from the Vinotheek, giving a finishing touch to a fantastic meal in a relax atmosphere;

This is the ideal place for an ice-cream to take away.
There are various and surprising tastes (limoncello, cuberdon, …), the quality of the ice-cream is excellent and the prices are still low in comparison with the quantity received.
The main issue was ... not going there too often.

I have been to the Rattevallebrug for over twenty years and have seen it develop from a restaurant that mainly catered for cyclists and locals (not serving chips with their ribs, for example) and low budget to what it is now: very known and always full and middle range budget.
For the countless times that I have eaten there, I have been only once slightly disappointed, that is when I took the dish 'seepannetje'. However, I do recommend all their meat dishes. Sitting outside in summer is nice but two weeks ago, the Terrace was infested with flies, never had that before. if you go there, do taste their own brewn beer, 't Kuipje. Enjoy, you cannot be disappointed.

We have just left the restaurant and thought it best to write a review whilst the flavours linger. The welcome from the host, Vincent was wonderful. He and a his wife, Caroline work so very hard. The menu included a variety of freshly cooked authentic Belgian dishes. The oven-baked fish dish topped with melted cheese was beautiful. The fish was cooked to perfection. The traditional beef stew in beer (the Belgian name, stoofvlees ) melted in the mouth. The creme brûlée was fab and the recommended Grand Marnier ice cream soufflé was amazing. We've been travelling in Europe for the past 18 days and found this to be one of the best meals we've had as a whole. Not a cheap meal, but as we plan to travel back to UK tomorrow, it was a fabulous meal to end our road trip with. If we're in the area again, we would definitely return. Thank you for a great meal Vincent & Caroline.

Bistroom De Baron

Reviewed By Joskefet - Ostend, Belgium

This bistrot will certainly be to your liking if you're into soul and other good music. It is situated near the pittoresque little church and tiny fisherhouse which reminds of the old village Mariakerke once was. Interesting detail : in the churchyard you will find the tombstone of Baron James Ensor (hence the name of the Bistrot).
De Baron is a nice place to have a coffee or tea in the afternoon , it also has an interesting choice of beers and wines and i am sure that the owner, Dieter, will gladly fill you in on the right beer to choose! The place is known for its pastas and it's 'kroketjes'.
It's not a large restaurant and it is popular, so if you want a table for evening dinner you better make reservation. But it is also a excellent resting spot if you are making a bicycle trip or a long walk along the dunes and the seaside. Ostend's new Green Project starts here(called: Groen Lint) which leads you through the green surroundings of the city.
Just park your bike and have a nice specialty beer on the Terrace or inside. Why not order their tapas ? Goes very nice with a cool beer or a glass of their excellent wine! (closed on Tuesday and Wednesdy, open from 4 pm)

Den Toogoloog

Way back in the 1920s, Den Toogoloog was an old-fashioned butchery, and not too much later it became a beerhouse or pub without doing away with the old butchery’s charm or authenticity. Nowadays, Den Toogoloog is a popular place in Middelkerke where people of all ages meet in a warm and peaceful environment. You can enjoy a perfect draft beer, a delicious coffee, or one of the many other beers our small country has to offer. If you are hungry or fancy a small snack, you can choose anything from our menu: a ‘boerestutte’ (slice of farmer’s bread with ham, cheese, etc.), a ‘croque’ (grilled sandwich), a salad, a meat platter etcetera.

We had Friday afternoon drinks outside in the very pleasant courtyard. The staff really made us feel welcome as did the other guests. The beer menu is interesting and a real plus is the very clear way it's laid out. Snacks were pretty standard but well presented and up to the mark.
